Da Boot Sports 3/8/2025 By: Terrill J. Weil GREENVILLE, SC - LSU fell to Texas in the semi-final round of the SEC Tournament on Saturday night, 56-49. The Lady Tigers were still in the game till the end despite missing Flau’Jae Johnson, Annesah Morrow for most of the second half and Mikaylah Williams for most of the final period with foul trouble. The difference was turnovers and missed free throws. LSU only made 9 of 17 free throws and turned the ball over 15 times. LSU has struggled at the free throw line all season long. If they make all of their free throws the out come of the game could have been different. The Lady Tigers only shot 34% from the floor on the night. They struggled from behind the three point arc only hitting 2-8. Texas out-rebounded LSU, 43-32. Mikaylah Williams led the team in scoring with 11 points. The big question now is how quickly can the LSU injured recover before the NCAA Tournament begins? The early pace of the first half was fast and furious, with both teams pushing the ball and trading baskets. At the 3:14 media timeout, Texas led, 10-8. The first period ended with Texas leading 13-11. The Lady Tigers cooled off halfway through the opening period, shooting only 4-17 from the floor for 24%. The Lady Longhorns weren't much better as they shot 31%. LSU forced Texas into seven first quarter turnovers to help keep the contest close. Texas started the second period with a 5-0 run to extend their lead to 18-11, forcing LSU to call a timeout at the 8:06 mark. The Lady Tigers were unable to gain much ground on Texas as they trailed by six at halftime, 29-23. LSU shot only 30% from the floor in the first half. They were 0-3 from three point land. The free throws were an issue again in the first half as LSU only hit 5-10 from the charity stripe. They need to make their free throws in the second half if they want to pull out a win and advance to tomorrow’s championship game. The offensive production must also improve in the second half. Texas out-rebounded the Lady Tigers, 23-17. Aneesah Morrow led LSU at the break with 10 points. Miracle Sheppard finished the half with 6 points. With 7:30 left in the third period and Texas leading, 32-27, A huge blow occurred for LSU when Annesah Morrow went down with a foot injury that sent her to the locker room. LSU would score four straight to cut the lead to one, 32-31 with 4:40 left in the period, while keeping Texas scoreless over the last five minutes of play. With 1:37 left in the third, LSU found themselves trailing 38-34 and playing without any of their top three players. Johnson sitting out the tournament, Morrow in the locker room injured and Williams on the bench with four fouls. The big question now is who will step up for the Lady Tigers? The game headed to the fourth period with Texas leading by six, 40-34. LSU struggled to gain ground on Texas as they trailed 48-42 with only 2:16 left in the contest.
