LADY TIGERS OPEN THE SEASON WITH A 108-55 VICTORY OVER HOUSTON CHRISTIAN

   BATON ROUGE, LA - The 5th ranked Lady Tigers officially started the 2025-26 season at home in the PMAC with a dominating, 108-55 victory over the Houston Christian Huskies.

   Several Lady Tigers made it into the scoring column. MiLaysia Fulwiley led the team with 21 points. Mikaylah Williams finished with 14. Flau'Jae Johnson added 12. ZaKiyah Johnson registered a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Grace Knox sank 10 points. Kailyn Gilbert scored 9 points. Amiya Joyner contributed 8 points. Kate Koval finished with 7. Jada Richard, Bella Hines and Meghan Yarnevich all scored 5 points each and Divine Bourrage added 1 point. 
   LSU had a solid night shooting. They finished 42-79 from the floor for 53%. They shot 7-13 from three point range for 54%. At the charity stripe, the Lady Tigers sank 17-23 for 74%. LSU out-rebounded the Huskies, 45-26. LSU forced 33 turnovers while  committing 16.


   Both teams looked tight early on, sputtering on the offensive side of the court, until LSU scored first at the 9:07 mark on a basket by Zaliyah Johnson. 2-0, Tigers.

   At the 4:02 officials timeout, the Lady Tigers held a 18-7 lead. After a jittery start, the Ben-Gals settled down and began to slowly pull away.

   The Huskies played LSU tough over the final four minutes of the first period. The Lady Tigers ended up outscoring Houston Christian, 8-6 to end the period to hold a 26-13 advantage.

   It took LSU a few minutes to get things going in the second quarter, but eventually outscored the Huskies, 14-7 over the first five minutes of the period. At the 4:51 official's timeout, the Lady Tigers were ahead, 40-20.

   Both teams were shaky over the final five minutes of the first half. LSU however, turned it up a notch over the final minute and a half going on a 10-0 run to take a commanding, 53-27 lead into the half.

   Mikaylah Williams led the team at the break with 12 points. MiLaysia Fulwiley added 10. ZaKiyah Johnson and Flau'Jae Johnson both scored 9 points each. Kailyn Glibert contributed 6 points, while Kate Koval has 3 points and Amiya Joyner scored 2.
   LSU shot 19-40 from the floor for 48%. They were 3-8 from behind the arc for 38%. They sank 12-15 from the free throw line for 80%. The Lady Tigers turned the ball over seven times while forcing the Huskies into 17. LSU also out-rebounded Houston Christian, 26-13 in the first half.


   LSU began to quickly, pulling away from the Huskies in the third period, out-scoring them, 14-6 over the first four minutes of the quarter to extend their lead to 67-33 at the 5:49 official's timeout. 

   LSU dominated the rest of the period on both ends of the court. As the contest headed into the final period, LSU led, 87-45.

   The Lady Tigers continued to pull away in the final quarter. Kim Mulkey emptied the bench, as she experimented with different lineups and combinations. At the 5:04 official's timeout, LSU held a 101-52 lead.

   LSU costed the rest of the way for the 108-55 victory.

   The Lady Tigers (1-0), will next host Southeastern Louisiana on Thursday, November 6. Tipoff is set for 7:00 pm and can be viewed on SEC Network Plus.
