It was LSU's third victory in a row. After a slow start, the Lady Tigers shifted into another gear and dominated the contest on both ends of the court. LSU played suffocating defense and shot the ball very well through out most of the game. It was a great team victory for LSU. The Lady Tigers shot 43% from the field for the day, They hit 4-9 from behind the arc for 44%. LSU was sent to the free throw line 33 times, sinking 29 for 88%. LSU out-rebounded the Sooners, 48-38. Flau'Jae registered 23 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double to lead the team. Richard had a great game with 21 points. Knox scored 13. Fulwiley finished with 12 points. Williams added 10. Kovel finished with 9 points and Z. Johnson had 3 points. Seventeen seconds into the contest Aaliyah Chavez hit a three pointer, quickly putting the Lady Sooners up, 3-0. Oklahoma stayed hot from behind the arc, sinking two more three pointers to extend their lead to 9-2 at the 8:14 mark. LSU on the other hand, sputtered from the opening tipoff. before settling down to chip away at the Lady Sooners' lead. At the 4:31 media timeout, Oklahoma led, 13-10. The Ben-Gals turned things up a notch, going on a 14-3 run to end the first period with a 24-16 lead. LSU's defense held Oklahoma scoreless over the final 3:06 of the opening quarter. The second period turned into a track meet with both teams pushing the ball, racing up and down the court, trading baskets. Oklahoma out-scored LSU, 15-13 to cut the Lady Tigers' lead to, 37-31 at the 4:26 officials timeout. LSU would come out of the media break and go on a 5-0 run to increase their advantage to eleven, 42-31, forcing Oklahoma to call a 30-second timeout at the 2:16 mark. The Lady Tigers would take a 45-35 lead into the locker room at the half. LSU shot 15-32 from the field in the first half for 47%. They hit 4-7 from three point land for 57%. At the charity stripe, they sank 11-14 for 79%. Oklahoma out-rebounded the Lady Tigers 20-19 over the first 20 minutes. LSU committed six first half turnovers while Oklahoma had nine. Flau'Jae led the team at the break with 15 points. Richard scored 9. Williams added 6 points. Fulwiley contributed 5. Knox scored 4 points. Koval and Z. Johnson both finished with 3 points each. The fast game pace continued to start the third period with Oklahoma out-scoring the Lady Tigers, 13-10 to cut the LSU lead to 55-48 at the 4:57 media timeout. Over the next two minutes, LSU would go on a 7-2 run to extend their advantage to twelve, 62-50 at the 3:00 mark. We headed to the fourth period with LSU on top, 70-52. Defensively, the Lady Tigers held Oklahoma without a field goal over the last 4:20 of the third period. LSU coasted through the final period with a commanding lead for the victory. With the win, LSU improves to 17-2 overall and 3-2 in SEC play. Next up the Lady Tigers will travel to Bryan-College Station to play Texas A&M on Thursday, January 22 at 8:00 pm CST.
