Da Boot Sports 1/26/2025 By: Terrill J. Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - The Lady Tigers returned home and easily defeated the Florida Gators, 89-60 on Monday night in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. LSU shot 48% from the field on the night. They hit 5-14 three point attempts for 36%. At the free throw line they sank 22-29 for 76%. The Lady Tigers out-rebounded Florida, 48-28. LSU had 15 total turnovers while the Gators committed 17. Richard led the team with 20 points. Fulwiley scored 15 points. Joyner scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double. Williams added 12. Knox and Flau'Jae contributed 8 points each. Z. Johnson had 6 points. Koval finished with 4 and Bourrage had 2 points. The game was competitive and fast paced in the first period. At the 4:22 mark LSU led, 16-14. Jada Richard banked in a driving layup with two seconds left on the clock to extend LSU's lead to 22-19 at the end of the opening period. Florida hit a three pointer at the 8:19 mark of the second period to tie the contest at 22-22. The game pace slowed down and became a half court offensive battle, which meant things began to turn physical. At the 4:24 media timeout, Florida led, 27-26. LSU would go on a 10-2 run to end the first half, taking a 36-29 lead into the locker room at the break. The Lady Tigers shot 45% from the field in the first half. They hit 1-6 from behind the arc for 17%. They sank 5-6 from the charity stripe for 83%. LSU led the rebound battle, 24-16. Florida committed seven first half turnovers while LSU had ten. Joyner led the team at the half with 9 points. Flau'Jae finished with 8 points. Richard scroed 6. Williams added 5. Knox and Fulwiley both scored 4 points each over the first 20 minutes. Over the first four and a half minutes of the third period, LSU would go on a 14-8 run to increase their advantage to 50-37 at the 4:32 official's timeout. LSU continued to pull away, out-scoring the Lady Gators 11-8 over the next three minutes to take a 16 point lead, 61-45 with 1:37 left in the third. The contest headed to the fourth period with LSU leading, 63-45. LSU called a 30-second timeout at the 8:18 mark, leading 70-48. The Lady Tigers remained in control the rest of the way to win their fifth straight. With the win LSU improves to 19-2 overall and 5-2 in SEC play. Next up, the Ben-Gals will host Arkansas on Thursday, January 29 at 7:00pm.
