Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - The 7th ranked Lady Tigers improved their record to 2-0 on Friday night as they defeated NorthWestern State, 95-36 at home in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. After taking a commanding 74-28 lead into the final period, the Lady Tigers simply coasted to the dominating victory, allowing Kim Mulkey to play several players and look at many combinations on the floor. LSU finished the night shooting 39-74 from the floor for 53%. They shot 4-15 from three point land for 27%. The Ben-gals hit 13-18 from the charity stripe for 72%. LSU turned the ball over 13 times while forcing NSU into 28 on the night. Flau'jae Johnson led the Lady Tigers with 24 points. Mikaylah Williams finished with 16 points. Kailyn Gilbert added 13 points. Aneesah Morrow finished with 11 points. Sa'Myah Smith contributed 9, while Aalyah Del Rosario added 7 points. Amani Bartlett finished with 6. The game opened with face pace action with both teams running the floor well and attacking the basket. LSU was the hotter team from the floor as they held a 19-8 advantage at the 4:25 mark of the first quarter. The Lady Demons would outscore LSU, 6-5 over the final 4:25 of the period, as the Lady Tigers lead, 24-14 as we headed to the second quarter. LSU started the second quarter with a 10-5 run, as they extended their lead to 34-19 at the official's timeout with 4:59 left in the first half. The Lady Tigers would take a 53-22 lead into the half, after finishing the second quarter with a 17-3 run. LSU shot 21-41 from the floor in the first half for 51%. They sank 3-11 from behind the arc for 27%. The Lady Tigers hit 8-11 from the free throw line for 73%. LSU turned the ball over only five times in the first half while forcing the Demons into 16. Flau'jae Johnson led the team with 17 points at the break. Mikaylah Williams had 12 points. Kailyn Gilbert added 7. Amani Barlett, Aneesah Morrow, Sa'Myah Smith and Jersey Wolfenbarger each scored 4 points. LSU opened the third period going on a 8-0 run, causing NSU to call a quick timeout. With 8:28 left in the period, LSU held a 61-22 lead. The Lady Tigers continued to dominate the Lady Demons, extending their advantage to, 66-26 at the 4:43 mark of the third period. The third quarter came to an end with LSU holding a commanding 74-28 lead. Next up, LSU will host Charleston Southern in the PMAC on Tuesday, November 12. Tipoff is set for 11:00am CST.
