Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - The Lady Tigers returned to the Maravich Center and came away with a 74-60 hard fought win over a spunky, well coached Murray State team that gave LSU all they could handle and more. After a solid first quarter, the Lady Tigers sputtered their way to the victory as they finally found a spark to wake up in the final four minutes of the contest to pull away. The Tigers finished the night shooting 28-64 from the floor for 44%, while shooting 6-19 from behind the arc for 32%. They would sink 12-18 from the free throw line for 67%. It was an ugly turnover battle as the Lady Tigers committed 15 while forcing 19. LSU would win the rebound battle, 42-35. Flau'Jae Johnson led the team with 25 points. Mikaylah Williams finished with 15 points. Aneesah Morrow finished with 10 points and 14 rebounds for a double-double. Shayeann Day-Wilson added 9 points. Kailyn Gilbert contributed 7, while Sa'Myah Smith had 5 points and Jada Richard finished with 3. Both teams began the game running the floor and shooting the ball well. As we reached the first timeout of the first quarter, LSU had built a 15-9 lead with 4:30 left in the period. LSU finished off the first quarter on a 10-5 run to give themselves a 25-14 advantage as the game headed to the second period. The Ben-Gals became a little sloppy with the ball towards the end of the first period and to start the second, allowing Murray State to not only cut into the lead, but take the lead 29-28 at the 6:35 mark. LSU would go ice cold in the second period and the Racers took advantage, going on a 19-3 run to lead 33-28 with 4:22 left in the first half. Murray State stayed hot and LSU was not, as the Racers raced out to a 46-37 lead that they would take into the halftime break. The Lady Tigers shot a poor 13-36 from the floor in the first half for 36%. They hit 4-12 from behind the arc for 33%. LSU sank 7-10 from the charity stripe in the first half for 70%. The Lady Tigers turned the ball over 8 times while forcing the Racers into 11. Murray State out-rebounded LSU, 21-19 in the first half. Flau'Jae Johnson and Mikaylah Williams both paced the team with 13 points each. LSU began the second half with their groove back, going on a 11-4 run over the first six plus minutes of the third period. With 4:38 left in the quarter, the Racers were hanging on to a 50-48 lead. Kailyn Gilbert hit a three pointer to pull LSU to within one, 52-51 at the 2:23 mark of the period. The third quarter would come to an end with Murray State leading, 54-53. LSU started the fourth quarter with a 6-2 run to take finally retake the lead, 59-56 with 7:03 left in the contest. The Lady Tigers would go on a 9-3 run to extend their lead to 68-59 with 3:27 left on the clock. With the win, 7th ranked LSU improves to 4-0...
