TUSCALOOSA, AL -  The Lady Tigers went on the road and were upset by #20 Alabama in overtime, 88-85 on Thursday night

Alabama made the plays in the overtime period to pull out the win.

This game was terribly officiated all night long. But LSU was their own worse enemy, only making 14-23 free throws. That's nine points left at the line.  The Lady Tigers have struggled at the charity stripe most of the season and tonight, it was the difference in the out-come. You have to make your free throws. The slow starts have been an issue and it caught up to the Lady Tigers on the road tonight. For the second straight contest, they trailed by double-digits at the half and needed to battle back.

This game doesn’t make or break LSU’s season. They will rebound from this. There is a lot of basketball left to play. No one hit the panic button on this team.

LSU shot 46% from the floor on the night. They sank 3-9 from behind the three point arc. They Lady Tigers committed 13 turnovers while forcing Alabama into 16. The Tide out-rebounded LSU, 43-37.
Mikaylah Williams led the team with 22 points. Aneesah Morrow scored 16 points. Sa'Myah Smith added 15. Mjracle Sheppard finished with 10 points. Kailyn Gilbert had 9. Day-Wilson and contributed 7 points and Flau'Jae Johnson finished with 6 points.

Alabama outscored LSU, 14-5 over the fist five minutes of the opening period. The Lady Tigers only shot 25% while Bama hit 50% of their shots during the run.

The first period would end with the Crimson Tide leading, 23-16.

LSU continued to struggle with a slow start, missing shots and turning the ball over to allow Alabama to increase their lead to, 32-19 at the 7:36 mark.

Bama remained in control of the contest, outscoring the Lady Tigers, 11-7 over the first five minutes of the second period.

The sputtering Lady Tigers found themselves down by 11, 46-35 at halftime.

LSU shot 45% from the floor in the first half. They hit only 1-3 from behind the arc. At the free throw line, the Lady Tigers made 6-8 for 75%. The Bayou Ben-Gals turned the ball over seven times in the first half. Alabama out-rebounded LSU, 19-15.
Aneesah Morrow led the team at halftime with 9 points. Mikaylah Williams had 7. Kailyn Gilbert has 7. Sa’Myah Smith finished with 6 points. Shayeann Day-Wilson finished with 5 points and Flau’Jae Johnson was held to only one point in the first half.

LSU began the second half going on a 10-4 run, cutting the Tide’s lead down to five, 50-45 at the 4:19 mark.

Alabama responded with a 10-5 run to take a 60-50 advantage with 1:40 left in the third.

LSU would answer with four straight to pull to within, 60-54 as we headed to the fourth quarter of a very physical contest.

The Lady Tigers battled back to pull to within two, 73-71 with 3:46 left on the clock.

With the loss, LSU falls to, 27-3 overall and 12-3 in the SEC. Next up the Lady Tigers will return home to host Ole Miss on Sunday, March 2 at 3:00 pm. The game will be televised on the SEC Network.

AUSTIN, TX - The 5th ranked Lady Tigers traveled to Austin and unfortunately fell, 65-58 to #3 Texas on Sunday afternoon.

LSU lead for most of the game, before going cold on offense late in the third and in the fourth period. This game was won by Texas at the free throw line. They hit, 21-21 of their free throws. LSU finished, 13-19 from the charity stripe. Turnovers also hurt LSU as they committed 19 total on the day.

The Lady Tigers finished the game shooting 33% from the floor. Only 3-12 from three point land for 25%.

Mikaylah Williams led the team with 18 points. Fau'Jae Johnson scored 16. Aneesah Morrow finished with 15 points and 20 rebounds for another double-double. Four other Tigers socred in single digits.

The game started like a track meet with both teams pushing the ball up and down the court quickly. LSU finally got on the board first with a three pointer by Mikaylah Williams at the 8:46 mark.  3-0, LSU.

The pace was fast but the scoring was scarce, as LSU held a 7-4 advantage at the 4:18 media timeout. The Lady Tigers were shooting well at 60% from the floor, but only took seven shots. They also turned the ball over six times early on to help keep Texas in the contest.

The game remained a low scoring affair as the first period ended with a tie, 10-10. Both teams failed to score over the final three minutes of the quarter. LSU committed nine turnovers while Texas committed six. The pace of the game slowed down late in the period and turned into a tough, physical battle in the paint.

LSU began the second period with an 8-2 run to lead, 18-12 at the 4:24 media timeout. The Lady Tigers were playing suffocating, solid defense, holding Texas to 14% shooting from the floor so far in the contest. The two points by Texas came from the free throw line, as the Longhorns struggled to make a basket.

Texas finally made their first basket of the quarter at the 2:28 mark. Meanwhile, LSU was able to outscore Texas 10-7 over the final four minutes of the half to take a 28-19 lead into the locker room at the halftime break.

LSU shot 37% from the floor in the first half. They hit 2-6 from behind the arc for 33%. From the free throw line, the Lady Tigers sank 6-10 for 60%. LSU turned the ball over ten times while forcing Texas into seven. The Lady Tigers won the rebound battle, 27-22 over the first 20 minutes.
Falu'Jae Johnson led the team at the break with 9 points. Mikaylah Williams and Aneesah Morrow both scored 7 points each. Sa'Myah Smith added 3 and Last-Tear Poa scored 2 points.  Defensively, LSU held Texas to 19% shooting in the first half.

Texas came out in the third period with a quick, 6-0 run to cut the LSU lead to, 28-25 at the 8:20 mark.

The Bayou Ben-Gals responded by going on a 15-6 run over the next four minutes to build a 43-31 lead, forcing Texas to call a timeout with 4:30 left in the third.

Texas answered with a 13-6 run over the final 4:30 of the period, cutting the LSU lead to, 49-44 as we headed to the fourth quarter.

This top five battle was living up to the hype. LSU continued to sputter into the fourth, struggling on offense, while the Lady Longhorns shaved four more points off of the lead to pull to within one, 49-48. Kim Mulkey called a timeout with 6:50 left on the clock, hoping to wake her team back up.

Texas was able to take their first lead since very early in the first period and took control of the ballgame. With 1:36 left, LSU trailed, 59-56.

It's a disappointing loss for the Lady Tigers, but they need to put this tough one behind them and move on. There is a lot of basketball left to play.

LSU falls to 25-2 overall and 10-2 in the SEC. Next, the Lady Tigers will return home to host Georgia on Thursday, Feb. 20 at 8:00 pm. The game will be televised on the SEC Network.

BATON ROUGE, LA - #7 LSU hosted #13 Oklahoma in an SEC battle of top-15 foes. Even with a ferocious comeback attempt, the Tigers downed the Sooners in a triumphant 107-100 victory in front of a full “whiteout” crowd.
Both offenses put on a show early in the first quarter, but as officials let the women play tough, things began to get chippy. Lots of arm grabbing, body bumping, and eventually altercations forced an official timeout with 4:10 remaining in the opening period. LSU’s Sa’Myah Smith and OU’s Liz Scott were ejected from the contest after bodies hit the floor.

It was the visiting Sooners with a 23-20 advantage after one. OU shot 75% from beyond the arc while the Tigers failed to make one three-pointer.

LSU kicked things into another gear through the second quarter. The Tigers went on a 15-5 run over four minutes to take their largest lead of the first half at 35-30.

Aggressive fouls and subsequent foul reviews led to an extended second quarter of play. LSU played much better all-around team basketball, outscoring the Sooners by 13 in the second. Mikaylah Williams took over the period scoring 16 of her 20 points in the frame while heading the Tigers to a 52-42 halftime lead.

Less than four minutes elapsed in the third period and LSU had already doubled their halftime lead to 20.

With 4:13 to go in the quarter, LSU held its largest lead of 24 points, but a pesky Oklahoma team would not go away so easily. By the time 2:02 shown on the clock, OU had cut the deficit in half, trailing 63-75. Both teams would close the quarter strong, but the Tigers retained a 15-point advantage heading to the final quarter.

Oklahoma trimmed the Tiger lead to ten with 7:25 to play. Tenacious defense from the Sooners and lackadaisical play from LSU prevented this one from being a blowout.

What was once a near thirty-point lead had been reduced to just seven with five minutes left to play.

As the minutes wound, the points mounted. As the Tiger lead shrunk, so did the Sooner deficit. An exchange of triples forced a Kim Mulkey timeout from the sideline with LSU leading Oklahoma by just a single point with less than a minute to play.

With an already impressive night, who else to call on than Milkaylah Williams who would come through in the clutch with her seventh trey of the game, putting her
point total at 37. A steal on the other end by Del Rosario was followed up by a fastbreak layup from Flau’Jae Johnson and suddenly the Tigers led 106-100.

That would be all she wrote as the seconds salted away. LSU would stake victory in the ranked meeting. Williams led all scorers with 37. Aneesah Morrow picked up another double-double performance with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Johnson piled in 25 points herself. A sort of “everybody was needed” game from the Tigers in the win.

Next up, LSU will host Mississippi State on Sunday, February 2, 2024, in an afternoon contest at the PMAC. Geaux Tigers!

BATON ROUGE, LA - The Lady Tigers returned home to the Maravich Center on Sunday looking to bounce back from their disappointing loss at South Carolina and that they did as they defeated Texas A&M, 64-51 in front of 11,061 Tiger fans.

LSU may have been dealing with a little fatigue after playing a very emotional and physical game against South Carolina on the road Friday night. It wasn't pretty, but a win is a win.

The Lady Tigers shot 23-72 from the floor for 32% on the day. They struggled from behind the three point arc, only hitting 3-20 for 15%. At the free throw line, the Bayou Ben-Gals sank 15-20 for 75%. LSU turned the ball over 12 times while forcing Texas A&M into 21. LSU out-rebounded the Aggies, 52-33.
Flau'Jae Johnson led the team with 22 points. Aneesah Morrow finished with 19. Mikaylah Williams scored 8 points. Jada Richard added 7. Kailyn Gilbert contributed 6 points.

The Lady Tigers started slow, falling behind to A&M, 8-4 at the 6:24 mark, but responded with four straight to tie the game. The Aggies sank a free throw to lead, 9-8 at the 4:50 official's timeout.

LSU struggled from the floor in the first period, only shooting 28% compared to Texas A&M's 44%. The period came to an end with the Aggies leading, 13-12.

The Lady Tigers started the second period on fire going on a 15-3 run over the first five minutes of the quarter to build a 27-16 lead. LSU would begin to sputter again for the rest of the half, allowing Texas A&M to respond with a 9-3 run to close out the half. LSU would lead by five at halftime, 30-25.

The Lady Tigers struggled for most of the first half on offense only shooting 29% from the floor and only hit 1-11 three point attempts. They were 5-6 from the free throw line for 83%. LSU only turned the ball over three times in the first half while forcing A&M into ten. The Lady Tigers also out-rebounded the Aggies, 27-17.
Aneesah Morrow led the team at the break with 10 points. Flau'Jae Johnson scored 8 points. Jada Richard finished with 7. Mikaylah Williams added 4 points and Sa'Myah Smith had 1 point.

LSU continued to play solid defense in the third period, but continued to struggle on offense. The Lady Tigers were able to out-score A&M, 8-5 over the first six minutes of the period to hold a 38-30 lead at the 4:04 mark.

The Lady Aggies managed to out-score LSU, 8-6 over the final four minutes of the third to pull to within six, 44-38 as we headed to the final quarter.

With 5:56 left in the contest, LSU held a 53-46 lead, as the Lady Tigers struggled to pull away from a stingy A&M squad.

LSU was able to hold on to earn the victory.

The Lady Tigers improve to 21-1 overall and 6-1 in the SEC. Next, LSU will remain at home as they host Oklahoma on Thursday, January 30 at 6:00 pm. The game will be televised on ESPN2.

COLUMBIA, SC - This one is always circled on the schedule before the season begins. #5 LSU traveled to Columbia to take on the #2 ranked Lady Gamecocks on Friday in a huge SEC contest. The Lady Tigers unfortunately dropped their first game of the season, 66-56.

After a very competitive first half, it was South Carolina who came out and raised their level of play on defense, combined with costly LSU turnovers and poor shooting that was the difference in the contest. The Lady Tigers average 90.1 points per game and the Lady Gamecocks held them to only 56 points and blocked 11 LSU shots.  You simply can't play a team like South Carolina on the road and only shoot 30% from the floor and turn the ball over 17 times. LSU would miss 18 shots right under the basket late in the game while trying to mount a comeback. Just not enough offense by the Bayou Ben-Gals. However, this game doesn't make or break the season, it's just a shame to lose it. There is a lot of basketball ahead of the Lady Tigers and there is a very good chance that these two teams will meet again down the road.

Aneesah Morrow led the team with 15 points and 16 rebounds for another double-double. Flau'jae Johnson and Mikaylah Williams both scored 13 points each. Sa'Myah Smith finished with 7. Shayeann Day-Wilson added 6 points and Kailyn Gilbert finished with 2 points.

The opening pace of the game was fast, physical and furious as both teams traded blows back and forth. At the 4:45 official's timeout, LSU held a 16-11 lead.

The first period came to an end with the Lady Tigers leading, 22-21 in a well played game by both squads.

These two SEC giants continued their back and forth battle, as they sat at a 29-29 tie at the 4:59 official's timeout of the second period. No disappointment so far as this contest was living up to all the hype. Fantastic game being played by both teams. Two of the best in the nation.

South Carolina was able to make the big shots late in the first half to take a 33-30 lead into the locker room at the half. LSU went scoreless over the last 4:51 of the second period.

The Lady Tigers shot 33% from the floor in the first half. they hit 3-9 from behind the arc for 33%. From the free throw line they went 50%, 1-2. LSU turned the ball over eight times while the Gamecocks only committed five. LSU dominated on the boards in the first half, out-rebounding South Carolina, 28-19.
Flau'Jae Johnson led the team at the break with 11 points. Mikaylah Williams scored 7 points. Annesah Morrow added 6. Sa'Myah Smith and Shayeann Day-Wilson both finished with 3 points each.

South Carolina would go on a 12-6 run over the first five minutes of the third period to take a 45-36 lead as LSU lost some spark committing a couple of costly turnovers that the Lady Cocks quickly turned into points.

The third quarter was owned by South Carolina thanks to a physical, suffocating Gamecock's defense and sloppy LSU play leading to costly turnovers. The period would end with South Carolina leading by ten, 51-41.

LSU continued to struggle on offense to start the final period as South Carolina's defensive pressure overwhelmed the Lady Tigers.

With 5:12 left in the game, South Carolina held a 56-45 lead. Meanwhile the turnovers and foul trouble continued to mount for LSU.

The Lady Tigers are now 20-1 overall and 5-1 in the SEC. Next, LSU returns home to the Pete Maravich Assembly Center to host Texas A&M on Sunday, January 26 at 3:00 pm. The game will be televised on the SEC Network.

KNOXVILLE, TN - LSU traveled to Knoxville and came away with an exciting 89-87 win against a very good Tennessee team.

The final seven minutes of this one was a fantastic battle between two of the nation's best teams. Tennessee hit a big three pointer with 32 seconds left to tie the game at 87-87. LSU found themselves in a situation where they were able to hold the ball for the final shot and that's exactly what Kailyn Gilbert did, sinking an acrobatic shot in the paint with 0.9 seconds left, to give LSU the victory.

It was a great road win for the Lady Tigers who improve to 18-0 overall and 3-0 in SEC play.

LSU shot 38-77 from the floor for 49% on the night. They struggled from behind the arc, only hitting 1-8 attempts. They sank 12-14 from the charity stripe for 86%. The Lady Tigers turned the ball over 14 times while Tennessee committed 12. LSU out-rebounded the Vols, 46-38.
Annesah Morrow led the Tigers with 23 points and 21 rebounds for another double-double. Kailyn Gilbert scored 22 points. Flau'Jae Johnson finished with 20. Mikaylah Williams added 16 points.

Both teams began the game running the floor with high energy in a back and forth track meet. LSU led, 12-8 at the 4:19 mark official's timeout.

LSU would go on a 14-5 run over the next three minutes to increase their lead to 24-13.

The first period came to an end with LSU on top in Rocky Top, 26-17.

The game's pace remained fast and furious, with LSU continuing to dominate on the boards, in the paint and on the scoreboard, going on a 11-2 run to improve their advantage to, 37-19. But the Lady Vols responded with a 6-0 run to trim the lead to, 37-25.

Tennessee continued to surge back going on a 14-9 run over the final 4:49 of the second period, cutting LSU's lead to seven, 46-39 at the half.

The Lady Tigers shot 48% from the floor in the first half. They sank 1-4 three point attempts and hit 7-9 from the free throw line. LSU turned the ball over seven times while forcing Tennessee into nine. The Ben-Gals won the rebound battle, 25-17.
Aneesah Morrow led the team at the break with 19 points. Flau'Jae Johnson scored 11. Kailyn Gilbert added 7 points. Mikaylah Williams put up 5 points. Mjracle Sheppard and Jersey Wolfenbarger both finished with 2 points each.

The Lady Vols opened the third period with a 6-0 run, cutting the LSU lead to one, 46-45 at the 7:59 mark. LSU then responded with a 16-9 run to build their lead back to six, 62-56 with 2:37 left in the third period.

After leading by as much as 18 points in the first half, the Lady Tigers found themselves in a tough SEC battle as we headed to the fourth period with LSU up, 67-62.

Tennessee started the final period with a 8-5 run to pull to within one, 72-71, forcing Kim Mulkey to call a timeout with 7:05 left in the contest.

Over the next six minutes, both teams played even at 13-13, as LSU held on to a one point lead, 85-84 with only 1:27 remaining.

Next up, LSU will return home to host Vanderbilt on Monday, January 13. Tipoff is set for 6:00 pm and the game will be televised on SEC Network.
