Da Boot Sports 10/18/2024 By: David Penn NEW ORLEANS, LA - The injury riddled Saints (2-5) aren’t showing any signs of overcoming their roster deficits. With Sean Payton and the Broncos (4-3) visiting the dome for the first time since Payton became the Broncos head coach, the Saints didn’t appear to be in a position to even compete with Denver. With most of the Saints’ skill players out with injury, the Saints only bonafide offensive threat was Alvin Kamara and Denver was able to key in on Kamara who gained 10 yards rushing and 14 yards passing, his lowest offensive output of the season. As if the injuries that were already piling up for the black and gold weren’t enough, Paulson Adebo was carted off the field with a broken femur and Marshon Lattimore left the game early with a hamstring injury. Pete Werner was inactive due to a hamstring injury. Rasheed Shaeed has been ruled out for the season after surgery to repair his meniscus. Chris Olave also was not cleared to play after suffering a concussion in Sunday's game vs Tampa Bay. “It's been disappointing,” Allen said. “Injuries play a part of it but we've got to find a way to play better. “We're making mistakes we shouldn't be making,” Allen added. “Us as coaches and players alike, we've got to figure it out.” On offense, the Saints managed only 10 points, a field goal that was scored in the second quarter and a touchdown on their last possession while trailing 33-3 when the game was well out of hand. Spencer Rattler made his second start of the season and completed 25 of 35 passes, but was not able to lead the Saints to a touchdown before being replaced in the fourth quarter by Jake Haener. Rattler was sacked 6 times during the contest. The offense fumbled the ball away twice, after the first fumble the Broncos scored on the ensuing drive. The Broncos were able to scoop and score with the second fumble which capped the scoring for Denver at 33 points. Defensively, the Saints didn’t fare much better than the offense. Rookie quarterback Bo Nix was able to create with his feet throughout the game, consistently picking up first downs when scrambling out of the pocket. The Broncos rushed for 225 yards during the game and the Saints did not have an answer. The Saints will hit the road for the next contest in San Diego against the Chargers (3-2). The Saints have nine days to rest up and possibly see some starters return to help a team that is struggling badly without most of its offensive talent able to contribute.
