LOS ANGLES, CA - The Saints (2-6) continue to struggle on offense despite getting several starters back. The Chargers (4-3) didn’t look particularly sharp, but did execute better than New Orleans down the stretch. The Saints failed to find the end zone despite gaining over 350 yards of offense.

Spencer Rattler again only completed 50% of his passes, going 12 of 24 for 156 yards with no TDs or INTs. Alvin Kamara combined for 122 yards from scrimmage, 67 rushing and 55 receiving. Chris Olave made his return from a concussion that kept him out for the last two games and grabbed 8 receptions for 107 yards. Taysom Hill also returned from a rib injury and had 21 yards receiving and 20 yards rushing.

The defense played well in the first half, registering a safety to open scoring, and kept the Saints within striking distance until missed opportunities on offense failed to keep the Saints competitive on the scoreboard. The defense did register 3 sacks on the day and 6 TFL, but were unable to cover up the two Chargers fumbles.

Down 2-0, the Chargers first points came on a field goal that gave them a 3-2 lead. The Chargers would then score a touchdown late in the second quarter with JK Dobbins punching it in from the 1 yard line, and then would miss the ensuing PAT to go up 9-2. The Saints would go on a 49 yard drive that ended with a Blake Grupe field goal that cut the LA lead to 9-5.

The Saints would only manage a field goal in the second half, Grupe hitting one but missing another wide right that would have made it a one score game. After missing the field goal, the Chargers would score their last touchdown of the game which provided the final margin 26-8.

The Saints did manage to drive down to the Chargers red zone on the last possession of the game, but were unable to convert, as the last pass of the game sailed over the head of Chris Olave.

The Saints will travel to Charlotte, NC for their next game vs division rival Carolina (1-7). There is a possibility the starting QB Derek Carr will be ready to go for that contest. When asked about Carr’s return Rattler said, “Obviously we didn’t get any wins, so that’s very unfortunate, we want to win. Our goal is to come in here and win, get some momentum going.”
