BIRMINGHAM, AL - The New Orleans Breakers improved their record to 2-0 on the season with a dominating 34-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Bandits (1-1) at Protective Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The big story of the game was the play of the New Orleans defense that held Tampa to three points and only 194 yards of total offense. The Breakers harrassed both Bandit quarterbacks, Jordan Ta'amu and Brady White all game long collecting four sacks while allowing only 64 yards passing. New Orleans also forced three turnovers (a fumble & two interceptions) and totalled ten TFL.

The Breakers defense was led by linebacker Vontae Diggs for the second week in a row as he finished with 10 tackles on the day. Jerod Fernandez is proving to be a pretty good linebacker himself as he totaled seven tackles, two of them for a loss.
Defensive tackle Kamilo Tongamoa was a force in the trenches as he registered two sacks along with three tackles, two of them for a loss. Defensive tackle Connor Christian and defensive end Davin Bellamy both finished with a sack each.

Breakers quarterback Kyle Sloter finished the game going 25 of 39 for 266 yards, two passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown as he led an impressive New Orleans offensive attack that racked up 374 total yards on the day. Sloter spread the wealth as he completed passes to eight different receivers.
Jonathan Adams led the Breakers with 92 yards receiving on five catches including an incredible catch in the back of the end zone on a successful two point conversion. Taywan Taylor stepped up grabbing five passes for 43 yards. Johnny Dixon finished with five catches for 42 yards with a touchdown and Shawn Poindexter caught two passes for 26 yards with a touchdown grab.

The two headed running back monster of Jordan Ellis (64 yards on 21 carries) and T.J. Logan Jr. (43 yards on 10 rushes with a touchdown) combined for 108 total rushing yards for the Breakers to help give Coach Larry Fedora an impressive balanced offensive attack that kept the Bandits defense back on their heels for most of the contest.

**New Orleans scored on their first two possessions to take a 14-0 lead and never looked back.

**The Breakers lead 21-3 at halftime, then scored 13 points in the 4th quarter.

**The 34-3 win is the largest margin of victory so far this season in the USFL

**The Breakers kicking woes continue as kicker Austin MacGinnis showed struggles for the second week in a row
missing another extra point and having a field goal attempt blocked.

**New Orleans (2-0) will face the Birmingham Stallions (2-0) next week on Saturday, April 30th at 6:00pm CST on FOX.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Led by a sturdy defense, including a pick-six from linebacker Vontae Diggs, and a steady two-headed rushing attack, the New Orleans Breakers won their first game of the USFL's return, beating the Philadelphia Stars 23-17 on Sunday in Birmingham, Alabama.

Diggs' interception return opened the scoring. The linebacker from Connecticut picked off Philadelphia's Bryan Scott at the Stars' 37-yard line and trotted into the end zone untouched with 5:36 remaining in the first quarter.

The Breakers' special teams then got in on the action when former Grambling player Chad Williams burst off the outside edge to block a punt out of the back of the end zone for a safety to make it 9-0 with 8:54 left in the first half.

Scott connected with receiver Bug Howard and Matt Mengal added an extra point to pull Philadelphia to within two at the half.

After a Stars field goal opened the scoring in the second half, Breakers running back T.J. Logan Jr. punctuated a 58-yard drive with a touchdown to put New Orleans up 17-10 with 2:30 left in the third quarter.

Following a Stars touchdown, Breakers running back Jordan Ellis punched in a 2-yard touchdown run to put New Orleans ahead for good.

Ellis (89 yards) and Logan (56) combined for 145 yards rushing.

New Orleans is scheduled to return to action April 24 against the Tampa Bay Bandits. All USFL games this season are being played in Birmingham.
