By: Terrill J. Weil Da Boot Sports! Just another record-breaking night in The Big Easy. Drew Brees continues his assault on the NFL record books. Brees passed Peyton Manning to become the all-time leader in touchdown passes. He also set the record for the highest completion percentage in a game in NFL history,(96.7%). Brees continues to prove himself as one of the greatest and most accurate passers ever. The Saints were hitting on all cylinders as they totally dominated the Indianapolis Colts, 34-7 on Monday Night Football. New Orleans moved the ball at will and scored on their first six possessions. Thomas Morstead's services weren't needed until 12:28 to go in the game. After being embarrassed by the 49ers last week, the Saints defense held the Colts to only 205 total yards (159 passing, 46 rushing), and nearly pitched a shutout. Indianapolis never threatened to score all game long until they found the end zone on their final drive, late in the game. Drew Brees was an incredible, 29/30, 307 yds passing, 4 touchdowns. He came into tonight's game with 537 touchdowns, one TD pass behind Tom Brady (538), and two behind Manning's record of 539 on the all-time touchdown passing list. Touchdown pass number 538 came on the Saints second possession of the game, early in the second quarter. Leading 3-0, New Orleans drove 90 yards in 12 plays, eating 6:17 off of the clock, with Brees hitting Michael Thomas for a 15 yard touchdown. The Colts would go three and out and give the ball right back to Brees. This time the Saints had a 10 play drive, going 85 yards in 6:09. Tre'Quan Smith hauled in a 21 yard pass for touchdown number 539, pulling even with Peyton Manning. Once again, the New Orleans defense forced a Colts' punt. Only needing one more touchdown pass to break the record, Brees drove the Saints deep into Indianapolis territory. With only 14 seconds to go in the first half, Brees connected with Tre'Quan Smith for a five yard touchdown after scrambling to avoid a heavy pass rush. As the celebration began, no one noticed the yellow penalty flag laying on the turf. Smith was flagged for offensive pass interference, nullifying the record breaking scoring pass. The Saints settled for a Wil Lutz field goal and a 20-0 Halftime lead. The Saints received the second half kickoff and picked up right where they left off. Drew Brees orchestrated a 12 play, 75 yard drive, taking 7:52 off the clock and breaking Manning's record by hitting TE Josh Hill for a five yard touchdown. Brees was given the ball, as he removed his helmet, pointing, waving, and blowing kisses to the Who Dat Nation. He would add touchdown pass number 541 late in the 3rd quarter, connecting with Taysom Hill for a 28 yard score. Here is a list of the NFL records that Drew Brees owns::: Most career passing yards Most career pass completions Most career touchdown passes Highest career completion percentage Highest single-season completion percentage Most consecutive games with a touchdown pass Most pass completions in a season Most 5,000 yard passing seasons Highest completion percentage in a game Most touchdown passes in a game (tied) The Saints, (11-3) will travel to the Music City to take on the Tennessee Titans, (8-6) next Sunday at 12 noon. 12-16-19 By: Terrill J.
