Da Boot Sports 1/27/2024 LSU Sports Communications By: LSU Staff TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – The Alabama Crimson Tide outscored LSU 9-4 at the end of the first half and then shot 66.7 percent in the second half while holding the Tigers to just 36.8 percent shooting to win a 109-88 offensive shootout at Coleman Coliseum Saturday night. Alabama was 20-of-30 from the field in the second half with six three-pointers and 13-of-14 at the free throw line, scoring 59 second-half points to break open a 50-44 game in favor of the Crimson Tide at the half. The teams battled almost evenly for much of the first 20 minutes with five ties and nine lead changes in the first 20 minutes. Both teams kept control of the basketball as well with LSU turning it over twice and LSU just five times. LSU out shot Alabama in the first half, making 16-of-33 (48.5%) with five treys while Alabama was 15-of-33 (45.5%) with eight treys. LSU was just 7-of-13 in the first half of play at the free throw line while Alabama made 12-of-14. The Crimson Tide was able to get the ball moving inside in the second half and took advantage of LSU mistakes to get some easy transition buckets. Alabama outscored LSU, 22-4, on fast break buckets and 17 of those came in the second half. As they built the lead to as much as 23 in the final minute. LSU had five players in double figures with Mike Williams III scoring 16 points, Derek Fountain 14, Will Baker 12, Jalen Cook 11 and Jordan Wright getting 10 points and five assists. Wright keeps his double figures scoring streak alive at 17 games. Alabama was led by Mark Sears who had 21 points and five assists and was 11-of-11 at the line. Latrell Wrightsell Jr., hit five treys in scoring 19 points, while Aaron Estrada had 18. Both Grant Nelson and Rylan Griffen had 12 each. Alabama finished the game shooting 55.6 percent (35-of-63) with 14 treys and 25-of-28 at the free throw line. LSU finished at 42.3 percent (30-of-71), making 11 treys (the fourth straight game with double digit three pointers) and was 17-of-27 at the free throw line. Alabama out rebounded LSU, 42-33. LSU is off in the midweek and will host Arkansas next Saturday (Feb. 3) at the Maravich Center at 11 a.m. CT. Postgame Quotes Via LSU Radio LSU Head Coach Matt McMahon On having success in the first half… “The first 17 minutes especially, I thought both teams played at a really high level on the offensive side of the ball. There were very few turnovers, it was a tight game there and then in the least three minutes, we had three turnovers that I thought hurt us. But with all that said, you go into the half only down six. We were able to finish some plays at the rim, and we got to the free-throw line, wish we could have converted at a higher rate in the first half at the free-throw line. Then in the second half, we weren’t able to get to the rim and finish plays. They (Alabama) blocked some of those, walled us up and now you are in their transition game. I know they scored too many points in the first half, but they only had five in transition and a lot of them were just good half-court execution. But then in the second half, they got those stops, we took some quick shots that I thought really hurt us and fueled their transition game and they have that ability as we just saw to put up a lot of points in a hurry.” On the contribution from the LSU bench… “I think we had four guys with two fouls fairly early in the first half. I thought Mike Williams III was really effective on the offensive side of the ball. Off the bench, Derek Fountain came in and had 14 points and 6 rebounds, I thought that gave us a big lift. Hunter Dean, didn’t put up big numbers, but you look and when he was on the floor, it was an even game. I thought he came in and enabled us to hang around there in the first half. Just unfortunately in the second half, we couldn’t get it done on either end of the floor.” On trying to slow Alabama down… “In the first half, the pace was very up-tempo, but it was still a half-court game with a lot of half-court possessions for both teams. We would have liked to be able to guard them better. But in the second half, some poor offense on our part really fueled their transition game. You can’t let turnovers or poor shots on offense fuel that transition game and I think in that stretch where the game went from a four-point game to a 20-point game, that was some of what happened.” John 14:6 - "I am the way and the truth and the life. Da Boot Sports 1/24/2024 LSU Sports Communications By: LSU Staff ATHENS, GEORGIA – Russell Tchewa scored and made a free throw with 2.3 seconds to play to give Georgia a 68-66 win over LSU Wednesday night at Stegeman Coliseum. LSU, which had taken the lead seconds earlier, launched a length-of-the-court pass to Jordan Wright who made an over-the-shoulder catch and his three-point attempt was on line but skipped in and out as the horn sounded. The Tigers trailed by eight, 65-57, with 2:55 to play in the content to the Bulldogs before Jalen Cook hit a three-pointer and Trae Hannibal got a layup and a free throw to cut the Georgia lead to 65-63 with 2:05 to go. Georgia missed on a couple of possessions and Jordan Wright missed a two-pointer and after another Georgia miss, Wright had his driving layup blocked out of bounds, but LSU retained possession with 26 seconds left. On the in-bounds, Cook drove to the bucket got the ball to fall in and was fouled with 16 seconds left. Cook made the free throw to give the Tigers a 66-65 advantage. Georgia, with the clock running down, attempted a long three-pointer, but Tchewa got the rebound and made the bucket. He was fouled on the play to give Georgia the winning points. The game was eerily similar to last year’s game when LSU scored to take the lead and Georgia scored in the waning seconds to win by two points. The effort overshadowed good scoring performances by Cook and Wright who combined for 39 of LSU’s 66 points. Cook had 21 points including four treys while Wright had 18 points and three from distance. Silas Demary Jr., led Georgia with 15 points, while Tchewa had 11 points and 11 boards with Noah Thomasson also getting 11 points. The teams ended up even in rebounds at 34-34. LSU shot 22-of-57 for the game (38.6%), making double-figure threes for the third straight game with 10 (10-23, 43.5%). LSU was 12-of-14 at the line. UGA shot 43.1 percent overall 22-of-51 with five treys and 19-of-24 at the free throw line. LSU had 16 turnovers to Georgia’s 18 but LSU had an 18-12 advantage in points off turnovers. LSU is now 11-8 (3-3) in the league, while Georgia is 14-5 and 4-2 in the league. The Tigers return to play on Saturday at 7 p.m. in Tuscaloosa against the University of Alabama. Postgame Quotes Via LSU Radio LSU Head Coach Matt McMahon On LSU’s Effort… “I thought our guys showed great resiliency throughout the game. We got down multiple times and just kept playing and kept fighting. Really competed at a high level and always had a run in us to get back into the game. I thought guys really made some big-time plays in that last minute down the stretch to get us the lead. I thought Hunter Dean had a great box out there on that shot with three seconds to go, I’ll have to watch the film again. Just a tough way to lose there at the end.” On LSU’s Play Throughout the Game… “We shot the ball extremely well from three. I thought we really struggled in the paint to finish plays. Credit to Georgia, I’m sure they had a lot to do with that. I believe, looking at the box score, both teams took 34 twos in the game, they made 17 and we only made 12. I always talk to our players about the value of every possession. I thought defensively we did a good job forcing turnovers, it was good to see that back for us. Forced 18 turnovers and had 9 steals, but then we turned it over 16 times ourselves and I thought some of them were really unforced and every possession is so significant in a high-level game like this.” John 14:6 - "I am the way and the truth and the life. Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - LSU played host to Texas A&M on Saturday hoping to sweep the Aggies on the season. But A&M had other plans, as they held on to defeat the Tigers, 73-69 in front of 9.085 fans in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. In a close game, it was rebounding and second chance points that did LSU in. Texas A&M owned the glass all game long, out-rebounding LSU, 48-34 allowing them to score 27 second chance points. The Aggies have been a poor three point shooting team all season, but had a good day from behind the arc, sinking ten huge three pointers to help down the Bayou Bengals. Jordan Wright lead the Tigers with a double-double, scoring 15 points while grabbing 10 rebounds. Jalen Cook finished with 12 points. Mike Williams III finished with 11 points, while Jalen Reed and Tyrell Ward added 10 points each. “Hard fought college basketball game. Great credit to Texas A&M for doing the things they needed to do to get the win." Matt McMahon said. "Obviously, they flipped the script on us from the first matchup where we were 18-to-three in second-chance points in our favor. Today, 27-to-zero was obviously the difference in the game. If you look at our defensive effort, I thought our energy and effort, all of that was great. Probably held them in their first shot of possession somewhere around 29-30% from the floor, but could not finish the possessions with rebounds, especially there in the second half. We have been able to turn people over averaging 10 steals a game; we only had one today. We did not turn it over a lot, but we were only able to force six there. Credit to them for getting the win here today.” With Texas A&M leading 72-69 with 12.6 seconds remaining, the Tigers took their last opportunity to try and force overtime. Jalen Cook would miss a three pointer attempt with an Aggie in his face. Soloman Washington was foul after grabbing the rebound for A&M. Washington sank both of his free throws to clinch the game for Texas A&M. The Tigers started the contest with a 9-0 run over the first four minutes, thanks to solid defense and nice offensive play before A&M finally hit their first basket at the 15:42 mark. The Aggies survived the early LSU run by outscoring LSU 24-17 over the next ten and a half minutes, to tie the game at 26-26. But LSU would outscore Texas A&M, 9-7 over the final five minutes of the first half to lead 35-33 at the halftime break. Jordan Wright lead the Tigers at the break with 10 points. Jalen Cook added 7 while Mike Williams III scored 6 and Tyrell Ward finished with 5. In the first half LSU shot 13-31 from the floor for 42%.. They hit 6-17 from behind the three point arc for 35% and made 3-4 from the charity stripe for 75%. LSU forced 4 Texas A&M turnovers while committing 3. The Aggies won the first half rebound battle, 21-19. LSU opened the second half with a quick three pointer by Jalen Reed but A&M responded going on a 9-0 run to take their largest lead of the game, 42-38 with 17:32 left on the clock. Trailing 47-41 with 14:54 left, the Tigers would go on a 11-4 run to retake the lead, 52-51 at the 12:18 mark. Texas A&M continued to own the boards, scoring several second chance points off of offensive rebounds, helping them go on 8-2 run over the next four minutes taking a 59-54 lead. In a game of runs, LSU took advantage of their next one, grabbing the lead back while going on a 11-4 run to go up 65-63 at the 6:27 mark. With the game even at 67-67, A&M's Wade Taylor hit a three pointer to put the Aggies up, 70-67 with 2:56 left in the contest. From there LSU struggled offensively, leading to the late game dramatics with Texas A&M taking the victory. With the loss, LSU is now 11-7 overall and fall to 3-2 in SEC play. Next up, the Tigers will travel to Athens to take on the Georgia Bulldogs on Wednesday, January 24th. Tipoff is set for 5:30pm CST and the game will be carried on the SEC Network. LSU defeated Mississippi 89-80 in a gritty effort, picking up the Tigers’ second ranked-victory in as many years. Ole Miss won the tip-off and was quickly forced into three turnovers by the Tigers’ defensive prowess. The negative for LSU? They could not convert any points from it and gave up four turnovers of their own. The Rebels scored the first basket of the game, a three-pointer from guard Jaylen Murray. LSU responded with a Mike Williams III trey. Murray got his offensive game going early with nine quick points. In the opening four minutes, he knocked down two triples, got an easy layup off a Rebel steal, and split a pair from the charity stripe. Will Baker nailed a high-arcing three-pointer to halt the Rebel 6-0 scoring run. Baker attacked the glass early on both ends of the floor and earned a trip to the free-throw line as a reward, where he’d shoot 1-2. Jalen Reed soared for a rebound and finished with the putback, making the score 11-9 Rebels. Both squads used aggressive rebounding on the offensive end, leading to easy baskets. Mississippi led 21-17 midway through the opening half. Tyrell Ward earned an LSU fastbreak bucket off a steal from Jordan Wright. Ward slammed home an emphatic two-handed dunk and followed that up with a sweet dish to Jalen Reed for the three, tying the ballgame at 24 apiece after a 7-0 run from the Tigers. Williams stole a cross-court pass and drove the length of the court, where he got met at the rim and went on to make one of two free throws for the Tigers. Allen Flanigan of Ole Miss got a fiery dunk of his own with a one-handed jam off a fast break opportunity. During an official timeout, the PMAC honored the 2024 edition of the LSU Tiger Girls for their national championship routine in the hip-hop division at UDA Nationals. LSU jazz dance also brought home the bronze medal, a huge accomplishment for those ladies. Jordan Wright brought the LSU crowd back to life with a one-handed slam to give the Tigers their first lead in the contest. Jalen Cook, LSU’s offensive powerhouse who had been a no-factor through the game, earned his first points of the night on a deep three-pointer with 1:04 to go in the half. That proved all she wrote for the first twenty minutes as LSU led Ole Miss 35-33, headed to the locker room. LSU got outshot by the Rebels up to this point, 41% to 42% from the field and 60% to 75% from the free throw line. LSU began the second half with possession and extended their lead to five with a triple from Jordan Wright, the Tigers’ leading scorer. Wright went to work immediately, converting a tough layup underneath the basket and making his free throw to finish the three-point play. The Tigers got into foul trouble early as they picked up all six of their allowable team fouls just seven minutes into the second half. Mike Williams was responsible for three of those. LSU’s dominant defensive effort continued to be displayed as they held Ole Miss to a shooting stretch of just 1-8 FGA. LSU utilized this time to jump out to an 11-point advantage. Tyrell Ward drilled two big-time buckets from beyond the arc, putting the Tigers up 57-46 with 11:41 to go in the game. McMahon had the #22 Rebels against the ropes. Ward’s electric shooting continued as he would bury a third triple in the second half. Hunter Dean was also huge off of the bench for LSU, making big plays in doing the small things like rebounding and finishing inside the paint correctly. LSU extended their lead to 15 as an acrobatic layup from Wright made the score 66-51. The Rebels secured two back-to-back baskets to draw within 11 with 6:54 remaining. Lackadaisical play on the offensive end and questionable whistles against LSU allowed Ole Miss to go on a 12-2 run, making it a 6-point game at 66-60. Jalen Cook came through in the clutch and responded with two buckets, including a one and-one, not backing down even on an off-shooting night. Effort and staying with the basketball allowed Jordan Wright to collect his rebound and put back a missed shot to put LSU back up by 11 with under four minutes to play. The Tigers improved their free throw shooting and got to ice the game away once they got into the bonus. The teams exchanged free throws over the last minutes of game time before Mike Williams delivered a massive three-pointer in the corner to put the Tigers up by eight with 64 seconds remaining. Ole Miss gave the Tigers all they could handle, and they absorbed it all en route to the win. With the victory, the Tigers are now 11-6 overall and 3-1 in SEC play. LSU will host Texas A&M on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 3:00 pm CST. Geaux Tigers! “Really fired up for our team. Proud of their effort and toughness that they showed on the court tonight." Matt McMahon said. "A great atmosphere with well over 1,000 students here tonight. Great energy in the endzone and from the fans that were here. Ole Miss has a terrific team. They are 15-1 for a reason. They have great talent and play extremely hard. I thought in the second half, minus the free-throw line, our defense was terrific. We had 32% from the floor. We were really concerned with Ole Miss being one of the top three-point shooting teams in the country, over 40%, which you do not see too often. We held them to six of 24, which is 25% there. I thought our offensive execution in the second half, minus a few possessions at the end of the game, was just terrific. We were five-of-eight from the three in the second half and 55% from the floor. The guys did a great job at making free throws.” Photos Below By: Michael Bacigalupi John 14:6 - "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." LSU came out good at the beginning of the first half, taking an 12-8 lead in the first five minutes as the two teams both made points seem easy. Jalen Cook would have seven points during that opening spurt by the Tigers. But Auburn then went on the first of two big runs in the opening 20 minutes that gave them the lead back at 13-12 and eventually 18-12 before LSU would score again. LSU found its turnover issues cropping up with the tight Auburn defense and in the half that resulted in a 14-5 advantage for the Auburn Tigers in points off turnovers. Auburn’s margin swung as the home Tigers closed the half on a 19-4 run over the final 6:23. Much of that cam at the foul line as Auburn failed to make a field goal for over five minutes. Unfortunately, LSU went six minutes on their own without a field goal and almost five minutes without any points. Down 28 points with 11:37 to play in the game, the Tigers went on a 12-0, paced by three Tyrell Ward three-pointers to cut the margin from 73-45 to 73-57 with 7:48 to play in the game. Auburn continued to miss shots and the LSU defense set up the LSU offense with Jordan Wright and Tae Hannibal setting things up to push the run to 21-2 and the Auburn lead to nine at 75-66. It was a three-point play by Hannibal with 2:12 to play that cut the Auburn lead to eight, 81-73, but LSU could get no closer in the final two minutes. Wright and Hannibal each scored 18 which featured both players going 7-of-7 at the line. Wright had seven rebounds. Will Baker had a double double with 13 points and 10 rebounds (5 offensive) for the Tigers and Ward, who ended up with four treys, finished with 12 points. Chad Baker-Mazara had 19 points to lead Auburn, while Johni Broome scored 18. Aden Holloway led Auburn with 13 and Tre Donaldson had 10. Auburn finished the night forcing 17 turnovers and posted a 26-10 advantage in points off turnovers. LSU started the game making 9-of-12 field goal attempts but was just 2-of-15 the rest of the way to finish the half 12-of-27 (44.4%). LSU finished the game at 42.4 percent (25-of-59) with 9-of-23 from distance (39.1%). LSU made 19-of-25 from the free throw line for 76 percent. Auburn finished the game 28-of-61 overall (45.9%), 10-of-25 from distance (40 percent) and a very good 27-of-31 at the free throw line (87.1%). LSU Postgame Quotes Head Coach Matt McMahon On LSU’s late fight and comeback… “A lot to unpack there, you look at the first 28 minutes or so of the game and Auburn had everything to do with this, but the turnovers, they forced us into some tough shots. The biggest issue with the 17 turnovers that we had for the game: 16 of them were Auburn steals. So, you’re better off just throwing the ball into the stands so you can at least set your defense, but they had 16 live ball steals that put them out in transition and that’s how they were able to build the huge lead. Now, 11:30 to go, getting run out of the building, I loved the fight and the toughness that group showed on the floor. We were able to start taking care of the ball which kept us out of transition defense, we were able to get downhill, and get to the rim, (Trae) Hannibal and (Jordan) Wright were terrific finishing players there, Tyrell Ward hit three threes in a row in that stretch and we were able to set our defense and be a lot more solid on that end of the floor to get it back to a single digit game. But a team like that with no weaknesses, you can’t get in that big of a hole and think you are going to come back and win the game.” On moving forward… ” Looking forward to getting back home. Like I said, it’s 18 one-game seasons, very disappointed in the result, but we’ve got to learn from the good of the last 12 minutes and the bad of the first 28 minutes and get better and prepare for a really talented Ole Miss team on Wednesday night.” John 14:6 - "I am the way and the truth and the life. Your LSU Tigers battled with the Commodores of Vanderbilt (5-9) en route to a 77-69 victory. LSU won the tip and scored the first basket of the game, a nice reverse layup from Derek Fountain off an excellent dish from Will Baker. Fountain would earn his second bucket of the game with an electrifying slam. The Tigers’ stingy defensive attacking aided the offensive side of the ball as they turned multiple steals in the opening ten minutes into easy, fast-break baskets. After a slow start of shooting 30% from the field, McMahon’s squad got out and ran to a 19-12 lead midway through the first half, thanks in large to a 13-6 run over five minutes. Vanderbilt used two quick three-pointers to get back to within a one-score game. The first was from guard Paul Lewis, and the second was Jason Rivera-Torres. Tyrell Ward made a nice defensive stop by picking the pocket of the Vanderbilt ballhandler. However, Ward could not finish the play as JaQualon Roberts said, “Not so fast,” and made the emphatic block from behind. Fans believed there to be a foul-call discrepancy against the home team and let the refs hear it. Six fouls were called against LSU in the opening half, while the Commodores only heard three whistles. The Tigers shot just two free throws in the first 20 minutes, and the scoreboard was evidence of the difference-making. LSU led Vanderbilt 30-28 after a sloppy first half from both teams. Neither team shot over 40%, and the two combined for 4-21 shooting beyond the arc. Vanderbilt turned the ball over nine times, including seven off of LSU steals, as opposed to three for the Tigers. The Tigers came out of the locker room on fire with an 11-6 scoring run within the first four minutes. Jalen Cook and Jordan Wright got into double-digits for the Tigers. Cook and Mike Williams III helped get LSU to the charity stripe more often, each converting acrobatic and one’s. LSU led 53-42 with ten to go in the game, but their lack of rebounding and efficient shooting from the three-point line kept Vanderbilt within striking distance. Ward got the ball dished to him in the corner and drained a big three-ball to put the Tigers up 56-42 at the 9:22 mark. The crowd erupted when the ball found the bottom of the net. Ward picked up his second and third steals of the contest, a big night for him attacking the ball, especially in the second half. The Commodores stayed aggressive deep into the game, even pulling to within six at one point, but LSU was just too much to overcome. The Tigers made the plays when needed and sealed the game by knocking down their free throw attempts. Jalen Cook led the team with 28 points, and the Tigers finished with three players in double figures. A hard-fought second half earned the Tigers a 77-69 home win. The last time LSU outscored an opponent by at least 17 points in the second half on their home court was Feb. 26, 2005 at Auburn. The 25.4 percent shooting by A&M is the second lowest field goal percentage by an LSU opponent on its home court in records that go back to 1965-66. LSU’s last road win was in the 2022 season, ironically here at A&M. The Tigers trailed by just two points after a first half in which they trailed for much of the first 20 minutes. But LSU never allowed A&M to get more than a five-point advantage in that opening half and was behind only on a foul that resulted in free throws in the final second of the half. But in the second half the Tigers scored the first eight points of the second half, taking the lead at 34-32 and advancing to 38-32 in front. The opening 8-0 run came at the hands of a Jordan Wright free throw, a converted and-one from Jalen Cook and back-to-back layups from Wright and Jalen Reed. The Aggies would tie the game at 42-42 with 14:48 to play but never got the lead away from LSU as an eventual 9-0 run put LSU up 55-44 at the 8:07 mark. LSU’s 9-0 run came courtesy of a Tyrell Ward three, Jordan Wright jumper, Hunter Dean layup and then Ward capped off the run with an emphatic two-handed dunk. Texas A&M kept missing shots and LSU was hanging almost even or ahead in rebounds which allowed the Tigers to put the lead to double digits, 61-49, forcing Texas A&M to call their last timeout with 5:03 to play. Jordan Wright led LSU with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Jalen Cook was the only other one in double figures with 13 points, three assists and two steals. Wade Taylor IV led Texas A&M with 23 points, while Tyrece Radford had 11. Wright finished in double figures for the 11th straight game. It was also his ninth career double-double. LSU shot 40.3 percent (27-of-67) for the game with six made three-pointers. LSU didn’t shoot a lot of free throws, making 8-of-11. A&M finished at 25.4 percent (15-of-59) from the field and was just 5-of-28 from the arc (17.9%). The Aggies were 18-of-26 at the free throw line. LSU won the rebound battle, 46-40, and 14-13 on the offensive end. LSU had a 36-20 advantage in the paint and made a big dent in winning the game by going 18-3 over A&M in second chance points. LSU’s biggest lead of the game came with 1:17 to play when the Tigers built a 68-53 advantage which was the final score. The Tigers will open home SEC play on Tuesday night at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center against Vanderbilt at 8 p.m. Tickets for the game are available at LSUTix.net. Post Game Quotes Head Coach Matt McMahon On being physical from start to finish… “I thought the physicality and toughness was on full display, every area we’ve been trying to make improvements in. The strengths of this A&M team is their ability just to dominate you on the offensive glass, to destroy you at the free throw line and to win the turnover battle. And you know I just can’t say enough about our guy’s effort on the on the defensive glass. I thought our rim protection we contested even when we got beat guys came over and helped. We made them take some tough shots and then I really liked our composure on the offensive side of the ball. We didn’t shoot a great percentage but I thought we got good quality shots in the second half and guys did a tremendous job taking care of the ball.” On what was the message to the team at the half… “Our focus the whole time, is just competing your tail off, playing with great energy and effort and bringing toughness to every possession and I thought our guys did a great job of that. You know, we were a little concerned sometimes you see and we made a bad mistake there to end the half and sometimes that momentum carries over into the start of the second half. So the messaging was real simple we’ve got to just move on to the next play. We’re competing our butts off out here, let’s go out and get off to a great start. I agree with you, the first half we left a few points on the board, didn’t finish some plays, but you know did enough on the defensive side of the ball to give ourselves a chance going in just down two.” On what this win means for the team… “ That’s the ultimate goal in that we’ve gotten better and Coach Brady it kind of sounds strange, but our season kind of started over December 16th when we got Jalen Cook eligible and it changed the way we’re able to play. I think the ultimate quality of a good point guard is the ability to make everyone else around him better. I think he’s done that. I think we had tremendous leadership from Jordan Wright tonight. He goes for 20 and 10. You know we just knew coming into this game there were three stats where A&M just absolutely dominates their opponents. Number one is the rebounding, two is the free throw line where they did outplay us there and then the turnover battle, and we were solid in two of those three areas. If you would have told me we’d outscore them 18 to 3 in second-chance points, I would have lost everything I owned. But I was proud of our guys’ toughness and fight there.” Guard Jalen Cook On winning the rebounding battle… “It was great. We attacked the boards. We kept them off the boards. They’re one of the best offensive rebounding teams in the country so it was big time for sure.” On how the team as a whole made an impact on the game… “It was an all-around team effort. The guys on the bench stepped up and took on the challenge. We knew coming into the game that it was going to be an all-around team effort, so we just have to go back to the drawing board and stay focused.” On the chemistry between Jalen and Jordan Wright… “Jo is an experienced guy. He’s good on the defensive and offensive end. I think playing with him, he’s a good guy to play with for sure.” Be sure to join us on Monday night, January 8 as we have our first basketball podcast of the season.
