Director of Creative and Digital Content BATON ROUGE - In front of the fifth-largest crowd in LSU history with 12,637 fans packing the Maravich Center, the sixth ranked LSU gymnastics team fell short to seventh-ranked Alabama, 196.425-196.775, Friday night. Freshman Kiya Johnson claimed another all-around title with a score of 39.600. Johnson also secured the vault and floor titles to push her career total to 12. "We were in a hole to start but fought back tonight," co-head coach D-D Breaux said. "I am pleased with the amount of fight tonight. We were consistent and really had a great beam lineup tonight. This team gets how to fight in a competition." Johnson Claims Another Vault Title:::: Johnson scored a career high 9.95 on her double twisting Yurchenko. in the fifth spot. In the opening spot of the lineup, freshman Kai Rivers scored a 9.80. Freshman Lexie Nibbs with her second vault of the season scored a 9.775. In her first appearance as a Tiger, sophomore Rebecca D'Antonio scored a 9.65 in the anchor spot. Ruby Claims First Bars Title of the Season:::: Johnson, in the first spot for the Tigers' bars lineup, scored a 9.875 for a new career high. Juniors Sami Durante and Bridget Dean earned scores of 9.875 and 9.775 respectively. Rivers scored a 9.80 and fellow freshman Alyona Shchennikova scored a career high 9.80 in the fifth spot. Harrold anchored the lineup with a 9.90 to earn the bars title. Beam Holds Steady in Third Rotation:::: Junior Christina Desiderio led off for the Tigers and scored a 9.825 for a season high. Dean went 9.825 in the second spot and Durante followed with a 9.85. Edney made her first appearance of the night and earned a 9.875 and junior Reagan Campbell anchored the lineup with a 9.875. Johnson Wins Floor Title Johnson made the raucous PMAC fans rise to their feet with a 9.975 to match her career high. Harrold led off with a 9.85 and Louisiana native Olivia Gunter scored a 9.80. Campbell earned a 9.825 in the fourth spot. Edney and Dean earned scores of 9.725. Next Up:::: The Tigers will travel to Oregon State for a tri meet including Arizona State in Gill Coliseum. Director of Creative and Digital Content GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The eighth-ranked LSU gymnastics team, led by freshman Kiya Johnson and senior Kennedi Edney, scored a season high 197.775 on Friday night inside the O'Connell Center. The Tigers put together their best performance of the season but ultimately fell to Florida who earned a nation's high score of 198.375. LSU dropped to 3-1 on the season and 2-1 in the SEC. Johnson and Edney finished second and third in the all-around with scores of 39.725 and 39.675. Johnson scored a perfect 10 on beam. The Texas native became the third LSU freshman to score a perfect score and the fourth gymnast to do it on beam. "This team fought like Tigers in what was an incredible meet," D-D Breaux said. "It was a complete team performance tonight led by Kennedi and Kiya who had absolutely fabulous meets. These scores were extremely high but these teams competed head to head. Everything about the meet was fabulous." Bars Opens with Stellar Performance:::: The LSU bars lineup put together the top performance of the season with a score of 49.425. Johnson opened the night with a career high 9.85 and was followed by Bridget Dean who matched her career high with a 9.85. Freshman Kai Rivers and junior Sami Durante each earned scores of 9.85. Edney tied her season high with a 9.90 and senior Ruby Harrold set a new career high in the anchor spot with a 9.975. Tigers go Season High on Vault:::: LSU put together its top vault performance of the season with a 49.425 to get within .050 of Florida after two rotations. Freshman Kai Rivers opened by setting a career high with a 9.90. Harrold continued her outstanding night with a 9.95 to match her career high. Edwards scored a 9.875 in the fourth spot of the lineup and Edney and Johnson followed with scores of 9.95 and 9.90 respectively. Johnson Highlights Floor with Career High:::: After facing adversity in the rotation, Edney and Johnson, the reigning SEC Gymnast of the Week, highlighted the night with scores of 9.90 and 9.975. Harrold opened the rotation with a 9.80 and junior Olivia Gunter set a career high with a 9.85. Beam Hits Six for Six to Finish Complete Meet:::: The Tigers hit all six routines to wrap up the meet and didn't blink with a 49.525 in the final event. Dean, Rivers and Reagan Campbell earned scores of 9.85. Durante posted a season-high 9.90 and Edney followed with a 9.925. Johnson became the fourth gymnast in the nation to score a 10 in the fifth spot of the LSU lineup. Next Up:::: LSU will return home to face Alabama at 7:30 p.m. CT Friday inside the Maravich Center. Freshman Kiya Johnson claimed her second all-around title for the Tigers with a career-high 39.600. Johnson punctuated the victory with a 9.975 on floor for a new career high on the event. With the win, the Tigers improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the Southeastern Conference. Edwards Claims First Vault Title::: Johnson anchored with a double-twisting Yurchenko and tied her career-high with a 9.925. Freshman Kai Rivers in the leadoff spot for the Tigers scored a 9.775. Senior Ruby Harrold scored a 9.825 and was followed by Sarah Edwards with a 9.95 for her first vault title to match a career high. Senior Kennedi Edney anchored the event with a 9.925. Bars Holds Steady in Second Rotation to Continue Lead::: The Tigers put up the top performance on bars this season with a 49.275. Edney, Johnson Highlight Beam::: Dean opened for the Tigers with a 9.75. Rivers followed with a 9.85. Edney and Johnson went back-to-back on 9.90 beam in the fourth and fifth spot. Floor Closes Out Win::: Harrold and junior Olivia Gunter both scored a 9.850 in the first and second spots. Edwards scored a 9.80 in the third spot. Campbell rebounded in the fourth spot scored a 9.90. Johnson anchored and scored a huge score of 9.975 to secure the win for the Tigers. The Tigers improved to 2-0 and 1-0 in the SEC for 2020. LSU extended its streak to 14 meets over Georgia. Freshman Kiya Johnson claimed the all-around title with a career-high score of 39.525. The win marked her first all-around victory of the year. "We were in Georgia's Arena, against a very good Georgia team tonight," co-head coach D-D Breaux said. "We came from behind and beat a team like Georgia on balance beam, I would say that this team earned some ribbons tonight." Durante Takes Bars Win::: Freshman Kiya Johnson led off for the Tigers with a 9.80. After an explosive routine, junior Sammi Durante in the third spot scored a 9.85 for the victory. Harrold and Edney, and junior Sarah Edwards all earned scores of 9.875 in the third, fourth, and sixth spots in the lineup for the Tigers. Floor Extends Lead::: Harrold took her leadoff spot on floor with a 9.70. Junior Reagan Campbell scored a 9.750 in the fourth spot. Edney had a strong routine and scored a 9.80. In her first career anchor performance, Johnson ended the rotation with a 9.925. Beam Wraps up Win::: Rivers scores a 9.95 in her first collegiate performance on beam. Senior Kennedi Edney claimed the all-around title for the Tigers with a 39.350. The win marked the ninth in the all-around and 37th title of her career. "There was a lot of adjusting tonight," co-head coach D-D Breaux said. "We had a great crowd and had to get used to that and then surface in the arena. I think our freshmen did a great job. I was pleased about the drive of this team. They kept moving forward and this team has the eye of the Tiger. They will continue to improve as we move forward." Johnson Claims First Title:: Freshman Kiya Johnson claimed the first vault title of her career with a 9.90 on her double twisting Yurchenko. Sarah Edwards earned a 9.85 on her booming 1 ½ and Edney scored a 9.80 after a large step on her landing. Freshmen Lexie Nibbs and Kai Rivers opened the meet with scores of 9.775 and 9.70.
