The LSU Tiger Girls reclaimed their championship crown during the UDA College Nationals in Orlando this weekend with a hip-hop routine inspired by the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.
Donning white suits and fedoras like the "Smooth Criminal" music video, the Tiger Girls earned a winning score of 97.2222 for the two-minute routine.
The team also took third in the jazz category with its routine to Aaliyah's "Are You That Somebody."

The last time the dance team won the national championship crown was in 2022 with a routine to Ciara's "Like A Boy," which went viral on social media. It also came on the heels of the #LetThemCompete campaign after it was revealed that the LSU Athletic Department denied the team the chance to compete in 2021.
In a 2022 CBS news report about the decision, head coach Kandace Hale said, "The reason for the refusal changed constantly during several meetings: first COVID-19, then funding, then because no athletic trainers could be spared for their season. Hale said she was told the NCAA-recognized sports "came first."

Similar to their 2022 performance, the Tiger Girls' winning routine this year has taken off on social media.

The LSU Tiger Girls Dance Team is the official dance team of LSU Athletics. Entering its 27th season in 2023-24, the LSU Tiger Girls are consistently recognized for their rankings at the UDA College Nationals, as well as their participation on campus for various sporting events.
In 2022, the LSU Tiger Girls won a national championship for Division 1A hip hop at the UDA/UCA College National Competition. They have also placed in the top 10 in the jazz category for the past 12 years. The Tiger Girls perform on the sidelines at football, men and women’s basketball games, as well as appearances at gymnastics meets. They are also involved in frequent promotion opportunities and activities around campus and in the community. They also have the opportunity to travel for postseason basketball tournaments in the spring.
