3/10/2021 By: Brittney Achord Da Boot Sports The Tigers would look to find redemption after losing two of three against Oral Roberts this past weekend as they checkmate Texas Southern 10-4. The Tigers are now 10-3 overall with SEC play just around the corner. 1st Inning was Going...Going...GONE! Javen Coleman would start on the mound for the Tigers to face Texas Southern. After walking the first two hitters, Nic Garza would hit a RBI single to center field scoring Oscar Ponce. This would give Texas Southern a 1-0 lead. The Tigers would regroup in the dugout before stepping up to bat. With Dylan Crews on 3rd, Cade Doughty would step up to bat..... Going….going...GONE over the left field wall into the Left Field Landing. Tigers lead going into the second inning, 2-1 over Texas Southern. A Scoreless 2nd Inning Blake Money would take the mound for Coleman in the top of the 2nd. Money and the Tiger defense would face the minimum as TSU would go three up-three down. TSU would match the Tigers' determination with three up-three down leaving both teams scoreless in the 2nd. 3rd Inning: The inning of many errors... The Tigers would struggle to find a rhythm in the top of the third. Errors would cost them three runs and the lead. After a double to 2nd, Oscar Ponce would steal 3rd on a wild pitch by Money. With two outs and the bases loaded, Tyrese Clayborne would get a single RBI on an error by 2nd baseman Zach Arnold scoring Ponce. Dean Salzar would then score on a passed ball. After advancing another runner on a hit, Coach Mainieri would send in Ma’Khail Hillard to the mound. A wild pitch would allow Jordan Vidato to score and advance Tyrese Clayborne to 2nd. The Tigers finally were able to end the top of the 3rd on a pop fly to the catcher, Texas Southern would now lead, 4-2. The Tigers would step up to the plate trying to redeem the errors made in the top of the 3rd. After a Dylan Crews walk, Morgan would finally get the crowd cheering with a single to left field, advancing Crews to 2nd. While Doughty would fly out to left field inches from the wall, Crews would tag up and advance to 3rd. Beloso would ground out to 2nd allowing Crews to score. Gavin Dugas then brought Alex Box Stadium to life with a powerful RBI double to the center field wall scoring Morgan. As “Callin’ Baton Rouge” blared over the stadium speakers, the Tigers were now tied 4-4 forcing Texas Southern to change pitchers. Dugas, would fast as lightning steal 3rd on a wild pitch. Another wild pitch would allow Dugas to score to giving the laed back to the Tigers, 5-4. 4th Inning Explosion Hillard and the Tigers would make a statement of perseverance as they would sit down the TSU batters, three up-three down to start the 4th. After a Thompson single to first, Crews would hit a shot up the center past the shortstop, advancing Thompson to 2nd. The crowd would enjoy Tre’ Morgan dancing on 2nd base after hitting a fierce double two RBI down the left side to the corner, scoring both Thompson and Crews. Tigers lead 7-4 going into the 5th inning. The 5th Inning Matchup Hillard would continue to pitch well, defending their lead with another three up - three down inning. Texas Southern would answer back, closing out the 5th with a double play at 3rd and first to end a LSU threat keeping the Tigers lead at 7-4. Stalemate in the 6th Hilliard and the Tigers defense would continue to dominate the Texas State's hitters with another three up - three down. TSU pitcher Alex Olguin would keep the Tigers scoreless in the bottom of the 6th inning as both teams would stalemate 7-4 going into the 7th. 7th Inning Showdown Top of the 7th, LSU would bring in Devin Fontenot in for Hilliard. Fontenot would struggle early in the inning. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and two outs, Nic Garza would strike out looking. The Tigers would hold TSU from scoring again in the 7th. The Tigers would load the bases with one out with Zach Arnold stepping up. Arnold would hit a hard line drive to shortstop that Texas Southern would turn into a double play to end the 7th inning with LSU still leading 7-4. 8th Inning Brings Life for the Tigers LSU would throw in Aaron George to pitch for Fontenot and George would produce another three up-three down for the Tigers, as the TSU batters struggle against him. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Tre’ Morgan would sent the ball flying to the center field wall for a triple scoring Thompson and Will Safford (pinch running for Wyeth). Doughty would then hit a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Morgan to tag up and score to bring the Tigers lead to 10-4. 9th Inning Checkmate Jacob Hasty would take the mound to finish out the night for the Tigers. With one out and a runner on first, right fielder Dylan Crews raced past the foul line, stretched out like Stretch Armstrong, securing the ball and the out for the Tigers. With two down, a groundout to shortstop Jordan Thompson would give the Tigers victory over Texas Southern with a final score 10-4. “This Texas Southern team was very well-coached and battle-tested, and they challenged us tonight,” said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. “They had played a very difficult schedule entering tonight’s game and hadn’t backed away from anybody. We had to work for everything we got tonight, and Texas Southern made some tremendous plays on defense. It took everything we had to win, and that’s due to the way Texas Southern competed. I thought Ma’Khail Hilliard’s outing was the key to the victory. He entered the game in the third inning, got a big out for us, and then cruised through the next three innings. He could have continued, but I wanted to get him out of the game to have him available for this weekend.” The Tigers hit the road tomorrow to take on UNO in New Orleans. The game is set to start at 6:30 pm CT and can be viewed on Cox Sports Television, ESPN+, or listened to through Eagle 98.1 FM.

3/7/2021 LSU Sports Information By: William Franques BATON ROUGE, La. -- Oral Roberts erased a 1-0 deficit Sunday with a two-run eighth inning, and the Golden Eagles went on to defeat eighth-ranked LSU, 3-1, in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field. Oral Roberts improved to 4-7 this season, while LSU dropped to 9-3. The Tigers will play host to Texas Southern at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in a game that may be viewed on SEC Network + and heard on affiliates of the LSU Sports Radio Network. “It’s a terribly disappointing loss, of course, but Oral Roberts competed very well,” said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. “Both starting pitchers used their two-seam fastball and changed speeds very effectively. (LSU starter) AJ Labas gave us a terrific effort, but we weren’t able to generate the run support we needed. “The way the game was played was not all that surprising to me, because there was a stiff breeze blowing in from center field. I knew there weren’t going to be any home runs and that we would have to hit-and-run and gamble a bit to get guys into scoring position. When you have a 1-0 game, you’re kind of at the mercy of having good luck and hoping the other team doesn’t put good at-bats together, but Oral Roberts did that in the eighth, and it changed the entire game.” With ORU trailing 1-0, third baseman Adam Oviedo lined a two-out single against LSU reliever Will Hellmers. Rightfielder Caleb Denny followed with a double down the right-field line that scored Oviedo, and Denny scored on the play after a pair of throwing errors by second baseman Zach Arnold and by Hellmers. The Golden Eagles added a run in the ninth on an RBI single by second baseman Ryan Cash. ORU closer Bradan Pierce earned his first save of the season by retiring LSU in order in the bottom of the ninth inning. Hellmers (2-1) was charged with the loss after allowing two runs – one earned – on two hits with one strikeout in 0.2 inning. ORU reliever Adam Scoggins (1-1) was credited with the win, as he worked 0.2 inning and recorded one walk and one strikeout. LSU got on the board first with a run in the fourth inning. Arnold singled up the middle and advanced to second on a wild pitch by ORU starting pitcher Tanner Rogen. LSU third baseman Jordan Thompson followed with an RBI single to score Arnold. LSU starting pitcher AJ Labas turned in an outstanding effort, firing six shutout innings with five hits, no walks and six strikeouts. Rogen worked the first six innings for the Golden Eagles, limiting the Tigers to one run on five hits with one walk and seven strikeouts. 3/6/2021 By: Terrill J. Weil Da Boot Sports BATON ROUGE, LA: LSU would go into Saturday's contest looking to bounce back after yesterday's shocking 22-7 loss to the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles, their worse loss since 2007. The 12-0 victory was just the medicine the doctor ordered for the Tigers who had to feel flat out sick after Friday's game results. Landon Marceaux would take the mound for the 8th ranked Tigers as Oral Roberts lead off hitter Joshua Cox would step to the plate. Cox would come through with a single. Marceaux would then strike out Ryan Cash, bringing Jake McMurray up next who would rip a single to right field. Dylan Crews would field the ball and make a perfect throw to third base gunning down Cox who was trying to advance. Marceaux would then strike Jordan Wiley out to send us to the bottom of the inning. LSU would go quietly in the 1st inning, three up-three down, as we would head to the second scoreless. Marceaux would make quick work of the Golden Eagles in the top of the top of the second, sitting them down three up-three down quietly. Isaac Coffey would start the bottom of the inning registering two quick back to back Tiger outs, before Zach Arnold would double to right field. Jordan Thompson would then single to left field, scoring Arnold and moving up to second base on the throw to the plate. Drew Bianco would strike out to end the inning, sending us to the third with LSU up 1-0. Oral Roberts would manage a base runner in the top of the third, but Marceaux would easily get the Tigers out of the inning with no damage done. Dylan Crews would hit a one out single, then move up to second base on a fielder's choice, but Coffey would do a good job of pitching the Eagles out of the third inning without a Tiger score as Crews would be left on base. Wiley would hit a one out single up the middle in the top of the 4th. After Marceaux would strike out Oviedo, Caleb Denny would end up safe on first on a throwing error by Zach Arnold, as Arnold would throw high to Morgan, sailing the ball over his head. Wiley would advance to third while Denny would take second. Marceaux would end the threat by striking out Hunter Swift. After Beloso would ground out to start the inning, Gavin Dugas would walk. Zach Arnold would then step to the plate and single to third base, putting runners on first and second with only one out. The Tigers would attempt a double steal, but Eagles catcher Alec Jones would gun Dugas down at third base for out number two. Thompson would then ground out to end the LSU scoring opportunity in the bottom of the 4th. Marceaux would have no problem getting out of the top of the 5th inning as he would face only four hitters. Oral Roberts would go down quietly, leaving a runner on base. Bianco would lead off the inning striking out swinging, but you could feel it in the Alex Box Stadium air that the Tigers were about to have an inning. Up next, Milazzo would single down the left field line, then advance to second on a wild pitch. Dylan Crews would then draw a walk. Tre' Morgan would step to the plate and then head to first base after Coffey would hit him with a pitch. With the bases loaded and only one out, Brody Drost would single to right field scoring Milazzo. Beloso would then hit a single to center field scoring Crews and Morgan. Dugas would then step to the plate, lining a single to left field, scoring Drost and moving Beloso up to second base. With runners on first and second and still only one out, Coffey would walk Arnold to load the bases up again forcing Oral Roberts to make a pitching change. AJ Archambo would replace Coffey on the mound and would face Jordan Thompson first. Thompson would pop the ball up in the infield. Archambo would drop the ball, however, the infield fly rule would go into effect ruling Thompson out. Beloso would score on the play while Dugas and Arnold would advance to second and third. Bianco would then single to dead center field, scoring both runners. Milazzo would fly out to end the 5th inning with LSU now leading, 8-0. Landon Marceaux would continue his solid outing, shutting down the Oral Roberts hitters in the top of the 6th inning, three up-three down.... Archambo would start the bottom of the 6th inning getting LSU lead off hitter Dylan Crews to ground out. Tre' Morgan would come to bat next and single to left field. Drost would then fly out for the second out of the inning. Beloso would be up next in the order and would single to center field. Gavin Dugas would then launch a double to left center field scoring both Morgan and Beloso. The Golden Eagles would again make a pitching change. Arnold would welcome new pitcher Colton Weber into the game with a single to right field scoring Dugas. Weber would then be able to strike out Thompson for out number three. We would head to the 7th inning with LSU on top, 11-0. Ty Floyd would enter the game ending Landon Marceaux's solid day. Marceaux would finish going six innings, gave up six hits, zero walks, zero runs, while striking out seven. Floyd would have no problems with the Oral Roberts hitters in the top of the 7th inningas he would put them down in order, three up-three down. The Tigers would threaten in the inning, but would leave a runner stranded on third to end the inning. Floyd would have a slight hiccup with the Eagles lineup, but would get out of the jam with no damage, as Oral Roberts would leave two on base. The Tigers would keep the bats busy in the 8th, as Maurice Hampton would lead off with a single. Hayden Travinski would step up and hit the ball to the third baseman, and would make it to first safely on a throwing error. With runners on first and second with only one out, Mitchell Sanford would single up the middle, scoring Hampton and moving Travinski to second. Collier Cranford would step up to the plate after Arnold would fly out to left field, followed by a Thompson strike out, but Cranford would fly out to right field to end the 8th inning with LSU leading, 12-0. Javen Coleman would come into the game to get the final three outs and that he would do quickly. Coleman would take down the Eagles in order, three up-three down to end the contest. Tigers bounce back to win, 12-0. “I’m just so proud of our guys today,” said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. “We got knocked on our backsides yesterday, we came back today and got a big win. If we can win this series this weekend after the loss yesterday, it will be something to be very proud of. Hopefully, we’ll come out tomorrow and get the job done." “The effort of Landon Marceaux today was outstanding, and it shows you once again that pitching is everything,” Mainieri said. “He has just been tremendous -- he was tremendous in fall practice, and he was tremendous last year when the season was stopped. He’s been terrific in his first three starts; he throw strikes, he mixes his pitches, he’s developed a great slider, and I think he’s one of the best pitchers in the SEC.” With the win, LSU is now 9-2. Landon Marceaux would be the winning pitcher running his season record to 2-0. Next up the Tigers will host Oral Roberts tomorrow in Alex Box Stadium for game three of the weekend series. First pitch will be at 2pm.... 3/5/2021 By: Terrill J. Weil Da Boot Sports BATON ROUGE, LA: LSU (8-1) comes into this weekend's series with Oral Roberts (2-6) at Alex Box Stadium on a seven game winning streak. Unfortunately, the Golden Eagles would end it with a 22-7 victory. No, that's not a typo... The final score was Oral Roberts 22, #8 LSU 7... It was simply one of those games where everything goes wrong for one team, while everything goes right for the other. Jaden Hill would take the mound for the 8th ranked Tigers and for some strange reason struggled badly against the Golden Eagles hitters. Joshua Cox would lead off the game with a double to left field, followed by a double by Ryan Cash, scoring Cox. Jake McMurray would step to the plate and single to left field putting runners on the corners with no outs. Next Jordan Wiley would hit a single, moving McMurray to second and scoring Cash. Hill would continue to struggle as he would hit Adam Oviedo to load the bases. Caleb Denny would continue the bleeding as he would single to score McMurray. With the bases still loaded with no outs, Hill would walk in a run as he would send Hunter Swift to first on a base on balls. The Tigers would finally register their first out of the inning when Brody Gibson would pop out to LSU catcher Alex Milazzo. However the sacks would remain loaded. Paul Mainieri would have seen enough after Hill would allow another run to cross the plate, walking Anthony Martinez to move the runners up. Theo Millas would replace Hill to try and stop the Oral Roberts attack. Cox would step to the plate as the Eagles ended up batting around. Millas would get Cox to pop out to Zach Arnold for the second out. Cash would then step up, hitting his second double of the inning, clearing the bases with three RBIs. The Tigers would finally get the third out with McMurray grounding out to short stop. We would go to the bottom of the 1st inning with Oral Roberts up, 8-0. With everyone in the Box in shock, the Tigers would look to get their explosive bats swinging. Dylan Crews would lead off with a single to center field. Tre' Morgan would step up next and single to right field sending Crews to third base. With runners on the corners and no outs, Eagles starting pitcher James Notary would throw a wild pitch, allowing Crews to score and Morgan to advance to second base. Brody Drost would step up to the plate and and draw a base on balls. After a Cade Beloso fly out, Gavin Dugas would single down the left field line scoring Morgan and sending Drost to third base. After Dugas would steal second, Zach Arnold would ground out to short stop scoring Drost. Drew Bianco would pop out in foul territory to end the 1st inning of play with Oral Robert leading 8-3. Millas would take the mound to start the second inning, turning up the heat as he would quiet the Golden Eagle bats, three up-three down... The Tigers now seemed to finally be fully awake to begin the second inning. Jordan Thompson would start things off with a lead off single to left field. Alex Milazzo would then single up the middle over the second base bag. Crews would step to the plate and hit a high pop up to shallow right center field, but he would reach first base on an error, when no one for the Eagles would make a call for the ball. Their right fielder, center fielder, and 2nd baseman would all collide letting the ball hit the ground. Milazzo and Thompson would both advance, setting up loaded bases with no outs for Tre' Morgan. Morgan would double to the right field corner, clearing the bases for three RBIs. Drost would then ground out advancing Morgan to third base. Beloso would pick up a RBI, hitting a sacrifice fly to left field allowing Morgan to tag up and cross the plate for another LSU run. Dugas would strike out to end the inning with the score now, Oral Roberts 8, LSU 7. Theo Millas would pick up where he left off in the second inning, facing only four Oral Roberts batters, allowing only a quiet single, as we would quickly head to the bottom of the third. New Oral Roberts pitcher Evan Kowalski would come in and keep the Tigers scoreless in the third inning. Millas would face the lead off hitter in the top of the 4th, giving up a single. Mainieri would go to the bullpen, brining in Ma'Khail Hilliard in relief. Hilliard would struggle badly, allowing the Golden Eagles to extend their lead. McMurray would single, putting runners on first and second with no outs. Hilliard would then hit the next batter to load the bases with no outs. Oviedo would single to left field, bringing a run to the plate while keeping the sacks loaded. Denny would then single to left field scoring Wiley and McMurray. With runners on first and second, Swift would reach first on a nicely placed bunt, loading the bases back up with still no one out. After Hilliard would strike out Gibson, Martinez would single to right field scoring two more runs. This would be it for Hilliard as Brandon Kaminer would enter the ball game. Kaminer would fair no better, as the Eagles hitters would continue to pound away. Cox would hit a single to right filed scoring Swift and moving Martinez to third. Cox would then steal second base safely. Kaminer would then throw a wild pitch to Cash on ball four, walking Cash but allowing Martinez to score while Cox would move up to third. Cash would steal second base before McMurray would draw a walk. Mainieri would scramble to the bullpen trying to find someone who could stop the Oral Roberts onslaught at the plate. With the score now 16-8, Jacob Hasty would enter the game. Hasty would surrender two more runs before getting the Tigers out of the inning. Halfway through the 4th, the Golden Eagles would lead, 19-7. Well, the Tigers would come up to bat knowing they have lots of work ahead, finding themselves down by 12 runs. But Oral Roberts pitcher Evan Kowalski would have non of it, as he would first strike out Crews. After hitting Morgan, Drost would ground into a double play to end the 4th inning. Hasty would hope to be the pitcher to settle in and calm down the Eagles bats. Hasty would get the lead off batter to strike out, but Martinez would reach first base safely on a passed ball by Milazzo. Cox would ground out to Hasty advancing Martinez to second. Cash would then draw a walk. With runners on first and second with only one out, McMurray would smash a single to left field scoring Martinez to make the score now 20-7. Hasty would then hit Wiley to load the bases. Oviedo would reach first base safely on a fielding error by Jordan Thompson. This would score Cash and keep the bases loaded with still only one out. Caleb Denny would reach first on a fielders choice, earning a RBI as McMurray would cross the plate. The Tigers would finally get out of the top of the inning with Swift grounding out to Bianco. 22-7 Oral Roberts. The Tigers would go quietly in the 5th, as Kowalski would continue to cause problems for the LSU hitters. Freshmen Michael Fowler would take over for Hasty in the 6th and would do a great job getting the Golden Eagles out in order, three up-three down. The Tigers would continue to falter at the plate, going three up-three down to end the 6th inning. Fowler would return to start the top of the 7th. After getting the lead off hitter to ground out, Fowler would hit the next batter, sending him to first. Wiley would then ground into a double play to get the Tigers out of the inning. LSU would manage a base runner with one out, but would ground into a double play to end the 7th inning with Oral Roberts in total control, 22-7. Oral Roberts would manage a base runner in the 8th, but would go quietly as Michael Fowler would do a great job on the mound getting LSU out of the inning. Golden Eagles pitcher Evan Kowalski would continue to mow down the Tigers at the plate, as LSU would once again go three up-three down as we would head to the 9th inning. Fowler would stay in trying to finish the contest with a strong effort, and would do just that, finishing strong on the mound taking down the Eagle hitters three up-three down. This would be the most runs that Oral Roberts has score in a ball game since beating Purdue Fort Wayne 25-2 in 2019. LSU would go into their final at bat of the contest hoping to make a little noise to build some momentum for tomorrow afternoon's game two matchup. The Eagles would send in a new pitcher, Brett Gregory to end the game. Hayden Travinski would lead things off with a single to left field. Braden Doughty would then draw a walk. Gregory would then strike out Sanford and Cranford, before Will Safford would fly out to center field for the final out. “There are a lot of cliches’ I can use to describe today,” said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. “You’re never as good as you think you are, and you’re never as bad as you think you are. And, fortunately, the game only counts as one loss. The game of baseball can humble you; last week, Jaden Hill was dominant and was pinpoint with his control. Today, he just never really found a rhythm, and everything Oral Roberts hit seemed to find a hole. I felt so bad for the kid, because everything that could go wrong for him did go wrong. But, Jaden will certainly rebound from this and be ready to go again next Friday night. Overall for the team, this is one to forget; the best thing we can do is put it behind us quickly. Tomorrow the score starts at 0-0, and hopefull we’ll come out and play a lot better.” Jaden Hill worked 0.1 inning allowing eight runs on five hits with two walks and no strikeouts. His record is now 2-1 on the season. With the win, Oral Roberts improves to 3-6, while LSU is now 8-2. Both teams will play game two of the tree game series tomorrow at 3pm. The game will broadcast on SEC Netwrok+ and can be heard on 100.7 FM. 3/4/2021 LSU Sports Information By: William Franques Due to the forecast of rain in Baton Rouge Friday night, Game 1 of the LSU-Oral Roberts series will start at 1 p.m. CT Friday. Game 2 will begin at 3 p.m. CT Saturday, and Game 3 will start at 2 p.m. Sunday, as originally scheduled. 3/4/2021 By: Brittney Achord Da Boot Sports The Tigers would take the field for their second game of the day after defeating Nicholls earlier today, 5-4. Coach Mainieri would continue to use the mid-week games to give his younger pitches some needed game experience. Freshmen Will Hellmers would draw the start on the mound for the contest. Hellmers would throw two balls and a strike before Southern’s Isaiah Adams would hit a grounder to short. Drew Bianco was there to scoop the ball and make the throw to first to get the out. Hellmers would then strike out Judah Wilbur bringing Tramaine Spears to the plate for the Jaguars. Spears would hit a single to left field, but O'Neill Burgos would fly out to left field, keeping the Jags scoreless going into the bottom of the first. Dylan Crews would get things started at the plate for the Tigers, Crews would send the ball flying to the right field wall with a double that was inches away from sailing out the park. Tre’ Morgan would step up next for the Tigers and head to first after being hit by a pitch. LSU’s lefty, Brody Drost would be next to bat. Crews and Morgan would pull off a double steal before Drost would strike out. Designated hitter Hayden Traviski would draw a walk to load the bases for Gavin Dugas. With Dugas up to bat, Crews would steal home, on a pass ball error by Southern's catcher. Morgan and Traviski would advance to 2nd and 3rd on the play. Dugas would walk loading the bases again as Zach Arnold would step up to bat. Jaguars starting pitcher Daren Smith would walk Arnold scoring Morgan from third. The second straight walk would end Smith's night as the Jags would go to their bullpen sending Austin Haensel to the mound. Haensel would walk Bianco scoring Traviski for another LSU run. Jordan Thompson would line out to shortstop, leaving the bases loaded for Alex Milazzo. But Milazzo would ground out to third bringing the 1st inning to an end with the Tigers holding a 3-0 lead. Hellmers would continue to pitch very well taking the Jags down in order, three up three down as we would head to the bottom of the second inning. Crews once again would start the bottom of the inning with a lead off walk. With Tre’ Morgan up to bat, Crews would steal second base and then advance to third on a throwing error by the Jags' catcher. After Morgan would ground out to the pitcher, and Drost would strike out, Hayden Traviski would step up and hit a single to left field scoring Crews to extend the Tigers lead to 4-0. Next up Gavin Dugas would hit a single to center field scoring Traviski, then advancing to second base on an error. Zach Arnold would send the ball sailing to the left field wall, inches from leaving Alex Box Stadium. Arnold would advance to second on a throwing error, while Dugas would cross the plate scoring another run. Bianco would fly out to right field for the final out of the inning. We would head to the 3rd inning with LSU leading 6-0. Neither team would threaten to score in the 3rd inning as Hellmers would only give up a one out single before retiring the next two Jags and new Southern pitcher Jerry Burkett would get the Tigers out, three up-three down. Hellmers would remain in total control of the Jaguar hitters as he would face the minimum in the top of the 4th, three up-three down in order. Tre’ Morgan would lead off the bottom of the inning with a homerun into the Diamond Deck in right field, his first of the season. Unfortunately, the lead off solo homerun would be all the Tigers could muster in 4th as we head to the 5th inning with LSU on top 7-0. Hellmers would continue to bring the heat on this cold March night with his fourth straight three up-three down inning, sending us to the bottom of the 5th. Once again for the second inning in a row, LSU would hit a lead off homerun. this time it was Zach Arnold's turn. Arnold's homer would fire up the crowd in Alex Box Stadium as he would send the ball screaming over the wall into the Left Field Landing zone. Once again, the lead off homer would be all the Tigers could manage in the bottom of the 5th inning as we would head to the top of the 6th with LSU now leading 8-0. Freshmen Ty Floyd would replace Hellmers on the mound to start off the top of the 6th. Floyd would start out strong facing four batters in the inning, only giving up a lone single to keeping Southern off the scoreboard and still trailing 8-0. The Tigers would hammer the final nails in the coffin in the 6th inning and Dylan Crews would kick it off with a dinger over the left field wall putting the Tigers up 9-0. Cade Beloso would pinch hit for Morgan and draw a base on balls. Before a Mitchell Sanford fly out to center field, Beloso would move up to 2nd base and then to 3rd both on Southern errors. Traviski would strike out looking before Maurice Hampton Jr. would step up to the plate and rip a double scoring Beloso. Arnold would reach first on a throwing error by the Jag's 3rd baseman. Hampton would advance to 3rd of the throw. Collier Cranford, would pinch hit for Bianco, hitting a single to right field, scoring Hampton and advancing Arnold to third. With Cranford on 1st and Arnold on 3rd, Thompson would rocket a three run homer over the left center wall. The six run inning would increase the LSU lead to 14-0 after six.... The Tigers would bring in left-hander Jacob Hasty for Floyd. Hasty would bring the heat to open the 7th with taking down the Jaguars three up-three down. Will Safford would start the 7th inning off for the Tigers pinch hitting for Crews. Safford would pop up to 2nd base. Beloso would follow with a pop up to 3rd. Sanford would end the 7th with a fly out to right field. The Tigers would bring in left-hander Brandon Kaminer to start the 8th inning. After getting the lead off batter to ground out, Kaminer would begin to struggle with his control giving up three straight singles to load the bases with only one out. With a grounder to shortstop, Adams would single to plate a run for Southern. Kaminer would send the next two batters back to the dugout on strikeouts. The Tigers remain in the lead 14-1 going into the bottom of the 8th. Hayden Travinski and Hampton would both strike out to start the inning, before Arnold would get things going for the Tigers with a single to left field. After a game of hot potato, Cranford’s grounder to 3rd would put him on first advancing Arnold to 2nd base. Thompson would bravely take a hit pitch allowing to load the bases. Braden Doughty would seize his opportunity with a huge timely hit sending the ball jetting into left field for a 2 RBI single scoring both Arnold and Cranford, and advancing Thompson to 2nd. Safford would then keep his cool with a full count taking the walk and advancing Thompson and Doughty. But Beloso would go down swinging to end the 8th inning with the Tigers up 16-1. The Tigers would bring out Ma’Khali Hilliard to close out the 9th inning for the Tigers. With two up and two down, Southern’s Nelson would single to left field. LSU would get the final out with a grounder to first base, ending the game for the Tigers second victory of the day defeating the Southern Jaguars 16-1. “We hit four home runs, including the third homer of the season each for Arnold and Thompson, and I didn’t expect that kind of power from those guys,” Mainieri said. “Overall, it was a good win to complete a long day, but a productive day, for us.” The Tigers are now 8-1 overall, with conference play right around the corner. Will Hellmers would get the win to improve his record to 2-0.
