Arkansas reliever Koty Frank (1-0) was credited with the win on Saturday, as he worked 3.0 innings and limited the Tigers to one run on two hits with no walks and two strikeouts. LSU reliever Nate Ackenhausen (2-3) was charged with the loss after allowing three runs on two hits in 2.0 innings with two walks and no strikeouts. “We had a tough loss last night, so I wanted a competitive response from our team today, and we got that,” said LSU coach Jay Johnson. “They fought hard, they care, and they’re not going to quit. We’ve just got to get better at baseball. We just played the best team in the country, and anyone can see that. “Our players competed hard today, and collectively, our at-bats were better. We need to keep fighting, one day at a time.” LSU third baseman Tommy White blasted a home run – his ninth of the year – to lead off the game in the top of the first and give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. The Razorbacks tied the game in the bottom of the first when shortstop Wehiwa Aloy launched a solo shot, his sixth homer of the year. The Tigers had two runners on with one out in the top of the ninth when White launched what appeared to be a three-run homer down the left-field line; however, the ball was ruled foul by the umpiring crew. The call stood after the play was reviewed by the SEC video replay staff. White then smashed a liner right at Arkansas third baseman Jared Sprague-Lott, who threw to second base to complete a double play to end the game. Arkansas reliever Will McEntire picked up his third save of the year after working 1.1 scoreless innings with one hit, one walk and one strikeout. Da Boot Sports 3/26/2024 By: Alexis Persicke BATON ROUGE, LA - On a beautiful 70 degree day at Alex Box Stadium/Skip Bertman Field, LSU defeated a very good Southeastern Louisiana team, 8-4. The Tiger defense started off strong against Southeastern Louisiana with a perfect inning for pitcher Samuel Dutton, throwing three back to back strikeouts. On offense Brady Neal singled to left field, then scored on a fielding error from the left fielder during a Tommy White single. The inning ended with LSU up, 1-0. A pitching change was made for the Tigers early into the second inning. Jay Johnson exchanged Justin Loer for Sam Dutton. He was unable to keep LSU in the lead, with SLU scoring two runs on RBI singles. 2-1 Lions. Despite this setback, the Tigers battled back in the bottom of the inning. Mac Bingham broke it open with a solo home run to left field, and his teammates followed with two hits, a single by Braswell, then a double by Milam. After a pitching change, SLU was able to turn a tough double play, which scored Braswell from third. Yet they were unable to get out of the inning before Tommy White stepped up, blasting a two run homer. The inning ended with LSU up by three, 5-2. The third was a lackluster, with nobody scoring and only one hit from the Tigers. The fourth was quite uneventful as well. LSU quickly ended the top of the fifth with another perfect inning. Kling was moved to center field, Pearson moved to right, and Bingham went to left field. LSU went to the bullpen again, bringing in Bucknam for Cam Johnson. This proved to be productive, as he quickly closed out the frame. The bottom of the seventh was another eventful inning for the Tigers. Jared Jones lead it off being hit by a pitch. Da Boot Sports 3/22/2024 By: Jason Watson Jr. BATON ROUGE, LA- Alex Box Stadium played host to a Top-10 SEC matchup on the baseball diamond Friday night. #5 LSU defeat the #6 Florida Gators in convincing fashion, 6-1. LSU pitcher Luke Holman shined bright under the night sky. The Alabama transfer delivered 13 strikeouts, a career high, through six innings of work. Additionally, Holman allowed just one hit on the night; a Ty Evans home run, which proved to be all the Gators could manage on the evening. When LSU opened SEC play last week versus Mississippi State, it seemed as if the pitching and defensive play were a chokehold over the Tigers. The script got flipped as the same factors looked like strengths in Jay Johnson’s wheelhouse. Once Holman had been pulled from the mound, Griffin Herring took over pitching duties. Herring allowed three hits through the final innings of the contest, but never seemed to falter. He managed three strikeouts, and stayed in the game until the final out was recorded. As for the LSU offense, the Tigers managed to plate six runs, scoring in three separate innings. The Tigers were hot out of the gate, earning the first two runs of the ballgame in the bottom of the first. Josh Pearson sent Tommy White home and Jared Jones to second base off of an RBI single. Ethan Frey continued the success with an RBI single of his own, sending Jones across the plate. 2-0, Tigers. The second and third innings were quiet, but the Gators drew blood in the top of the fourth. Evans led off with the Gators’ lone run of the night, a solo shot to right field. Florida trailed by one, 2-1. LSU protected their lead the rest of the way, not allowing another Gator run. They extended the lead to four in the bottom of the sixth. After a lead off double from Hayden Travinski, a Pearson HBP, and Frey single, LSU had the bases loaded with no outs, causing a Florida pitching change. The Tigers drew a walk, scoring one run and keeping the bases loaded. Paxton Kling stepped to the plate and hit as close to a grand slam without it being a grand slam as can be. Kling’s ball was hit hard enough, but at the last moment, the wind caught the baseball, forcing it to drop to the Florida defender. Nonetheless, a deep SAC fly was recorded as Pearson came in from third. After a Milam ground out, Bingham singled past third base and Frey scored, putting the Tigers up 5-1. Tommy White grounded out to end the inning, stranding one on base. LSU managed to score one more run in the bottom of the eighth inning off a Bingham double. Braswell came across home for the score. LSU got a much better start against Florida than they had to open up SEC play, but they will have to carry that momentum over to the weekend in order to win this ranked-series. There’s not going to be an easy game on our schedule for the rest of the season, and I think our players now understand that and were able to execute mentally in a game like today.” LSU began the game like a pissed off team on a mission. Tommy White got it going with a one out solo home run to left field. After Brady Neal was walked, Jared Jones homered down the left field line, giving LSU A 3-0 lead as the game headed to the 2nd inning. The Tigers roared again in the top of the 2nd when Alex Milazzo singled to right field. Mac Bingham then stepped to the plate and launched a two run homer over the left field wall to increase the LSU lead to 5-0. State answered in the bottom of the 2nd. Connor Hujsak led off the inning with a walk. Aaron Downs then singled up the middle advancing Hijsak to third. LSU starting pitcher Gage Jump was charged with a wild pitch which allowed Hijsak to score. The Tigers were able to close out the Bulldogs in the inning with no more damage done. 5-1 LSU as we headed to the 3rd inning. LSU wanted more in the 3rd inning. Jared Jones led off the inning with a walk. Then Hayden Travinski blasted a two run homer to center field. After two quick Tiger outs, Milam, Milazzo and Bingham walked back to back to back, loading the bases. Tommy White would drive in two more RBIs for LSU with a single to right field. LSU now led 9-1 as the game moved to the 4th inning. Mississippi State refused to quit, battling back for three runs in the bottom of the 4th inning when Bryce Chance hit a three run homer off of Gage Jump. After the three run shot, Jay Johnson decided to go with Will Hellmers, who quickly got the Tigers back into the dugout. As the game headed to the 5th inning, LSU now held a 9-4 lead. The surging Bulldogs continued to peck away at the LSU lead, plating two more runs in the bottom of the 5th. Griffin Herring would replace Hellmers in the 5th with two on base with one out. He would surrender the two runs before getting the final out of the inning with the bases loaded. State had now cut the LSU lead to 9-6. State continued to chip away in the bottom of the 7th, while keeping LSU scoreless since the 3rd. The Bulldogs plated two more runs, cutting the lead to one, 9-8. LSU would threaten in the 8th and 9th inning, but couldn't add any insurance runs. Nate Ackenhausen would enter the contest in the 9th inning to get the final three outs for the victory. The Tigers improve to 17-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play... Next up for LSU will be the rubber match of the series with State on Sunday, March 17th. First pitch is set for 1:00pm. Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - LSU suffered their second loss of the season, falling to Xavier (Ohio) on Sunday afternoon, 2-1 as the Musketeers' pitching staff baffled the LSU hitters throughout the day at Alex Box Stadium/Skip Bertman Field. The game began as a great pitchers duel between LSU starting pitcher Thatcher Hurd and Xavier pitcher Nick Boyd. LSU plated a run in the bottom of the 4th inning. Jared Jones hit a one out triple off of the center field wall. After a Ashton Larson ground out, Mac Bingham hit a ball to the second baseman who bobbled the ball just enough for the speedy Bingham to beat out the throw. The error allowed Jones to score. The game headed to the 5th inning with LSU up, 1-0. Xavier responded in the 5th, scoring to tie the game, 1-1. The Musketeers' run was aided by a walk, an error, and a wild pitch. Nate Ackenhausen replaced Hurd on the bump to start the 6th inning. Aedan Anderson drew a lead off walk. Anderson advanced to second on a LSU throwing error, then moved to third on a fielder's choice. Jared Cushing then singled to center field to bring Anderson home. 2-1 Musketeers after six. LSU had a tough day at the plate as the Xavier pitching staff did a fantastic job keeping the LSU bats in check.
