One former LSU basketball player came off the board in the 2021 NBA Draft when guard Cameron Thomas was selected by the Brooklyn Nets at No. 27 overall in the first round.
With this, Thomas becomes the first LSU player to be taken in the first round during the Will Wade era and joins some legendary new teammates in Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden.
While at LSU, Thomas averaged 23 points per game on 40% shooting and 32% from three-point range as merely a freshman.
Thomas is expected to be a player who can make an immediate impact, especially offensively, at the professional level. While his defensive abilities weren’t necessarily on full display in Baton Rouge, that doesn’t mean he’s not capable.

One comment Wade made on the subject makes it seem that’s more on the coaching staff than Thomas himself.
“Defensively he was locked in at certain points but some of that’s on us,” Wade told reporters. “We told him to score and be a little bit of a passive defender so those are areas he’ll show more at the next level.”
It will be interesting to watch how Thomas transitions with the Nets as he takes the next step in his career, but there’s no doubt that Brooklyn got a good one.
