Da Boot Sports 5/24/2024 By: Alexis Persicke STANFORD, CA — LSU played their first game of the NCAA Super Regional Tournament against Stanford, winning 11-1. Starting at the plate first, the Tigers scored three. Redoutey singled, and Briggs reached on an error. Lynch doubled, scoring the first run, and Gutierrez had her own base hit for 2 RBI. Stanford would score their only run of the game in the bottom of the first inning. The runner made it on base on balls, and scored on a base hit. They almost increased that number, having two in scoring position, but Berzon only let routine ground balls be hit. The next few innings saw no progress for both teams. The Tigers had four hits through three innings from Briggs, Pleasants, Gutierrez, and Redoutey. Stanford showed zeros all across the board. The fifth and final inning is where LSU exploded. Two base hits put Pleasants and Gutierrez into scoring position, and Newland homered for three more runs. Stanford swapped pitchers, then Bergeron followed with a solo shot. Petty, Redoutey, and Briggs loaded the bases with their own hits, and Lynch pummeled the ball for a grand slam. Pleasants doubled to earn another hit, and the inning ended with 8 runs and 9 hits. Stanford put another zero on the board despite their best efforts, ending the game early, down by 10. The Tigers will play Stanford again in the NCAA Supers on Saturday, May 25th, at 8:00 PM on Stanford’s home field. John 14:6 - "I am the way and the truth and the life.
