With this win, the Tigers managed to avoid being swept in the series while playing their final conference game of the season. In the first inning, Pleasants gained another error. Very uncharacteristic of the shortstop, she made an error in three consecutive games against Arkansas. The Razorbacks had runners on first and third, but Berzon was able to get her defense out of a tough spot with a fly ball, and Briggs hit a lead off double in the bottom of the inning. The next three innings went quickly with no progress made on either side. The Razorbacks went three up three down in the fifth, then LSU took the lead. Lynch made it to first and Townsend was put in to run. Arkansas made a pitching change after this, but it was to no avail. Manning singled to the pitcher and was safe on a fumble. Briggs followed, sending the ball down the third base line. Coach Torina sent Townsend home on the throw from left field and was safe, bringing in the only run of the game. There was a walk to load the bases for the Tigers, but they could not get another productive hit. The inning ended 1-0. The sixth and seventh yielded no advances for either team. LSU got two on base, but couldn’t manage to do anything with it. Berzon pitched a fantastic game, holding Arkansas to zero despite having runners in scoring position for four consecutive innings. She had six strikeouts with 101 pitches. The Tigers are now 12-12 in the conference, and 36-13 overall. LSU Softball will play Liberty in a series next weekend at Tiger Park on May 3rd-5th, then they head to the SEC Tournament. John 14:6 - "I am the way and the truth and the life.
