This years 2020 LSU women's Basketball team is getting geared up for another exciting year. This year will be different, just like in other sports. Every sport is working around the Covid and doing the best they can to fulfill a season. The season last year ended even though they were projected to make a trip to the NCAA Tournament. The college basketball world was among the first to see their season finish the way that the LadyTigers did.The head women's coach Nikki Fargas sounds like her team is ready for the challenge that awaits for her and her ball club. "We are gonna be in shape, have a higher field goal percentage, but we might be able to guard anybody, but we definitely gonna make the pace very up tempo and exciting to watch" stated by coach Nikki Fargas. This is going to be an exciting team to watch, with this season being different than others with the type of environment that Covid is making everyone adjust to. Coach Fargas also brought up how the pandemic in many ways brought the team closer together in various aspects. She also mentioned how she had to find the time to do a team call where everyone can be involved along with the Lady Tigers from overseas. This Lady Tiger team has a solid group of returning players that are anxious to play since they didn't get to finish the season the way they wanted to. The 3 point shot seems like a good focus this year as they are projected to fire more than in the past. LSU junior college transfer Sarah Shematsi from Annecy, France is a good deep shooter, big guard and can also play various positions on the basketball court. Another Lady Tiger that had to sit out last season named Freshman Sharna Ayres from Melbourne, Australia is another projected good shooter the team will have this season as she has many packages to offer. This yeas roster seems to be one of the deepest that its had in as many years. Substituting this year should also be easier to help keep the team refreshed to help keep the energy upbeat during the games. Senior Faustine Aifuwa from Dacula, GA is another athlete that is a projected good post player, good 3 point shooter, also a very good defensive player also was able to complete her education and still decided to finish her career on the basketball court. With her coming back that was a shot in the arm to help the Lady Tigers. Senior Khayla Pointer is another solid returnee that this team is excited to see back on the court. Senior Awa Trasi, Senior Jailin Cherry, Along with Sophomore Tiara Young will also be a part of the team in a rotating manner. Coach Fargas is hoping that this year she can get to about 10 impactful players deep so that her club can be strong if everyone can stay healthy. Coach Fargas also stated, "I believe defense tells a lot about your team to be honest, to me defense is about heart, about hustle, is about stamina, is also about togetherness." This years team seems to have the spark that it may have needed with the season around the corner. Last years season wasn't a waste, in a way it may have made this years team stronger in many ways. They were also able to come in June and start practicing, the are thankful that the Institution was able to allow them to do this. It helped them gel together more as a team and create a family type environment which is a huge plus for the team. Their offense seems to be just as strong as last season along with the defense if not better at the same time. Below is video of Coach Fargas' press conference from last week...courtesy of LSU
