LSU In Battle To Defend Title At The Ally

WEST POINT, Miss. – Wednesday’s final round at The Ally on Wednesday at the Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Mississippi is shaping up to be an SEC battle royale. No. 13 LSU moved up two spots to third place with a 4-under 284 in Round Two and sits four strokes out of first place. The Tigers battled South Carolina and Tennessee all day for the top spot on the leaderboard with each team taking a turn during Tuesday’s action.

“Our ladies did what they needed to do today by improving our score from the first round and improving our position on the leaderboard heading into the final round,” said LSU women’s golf head coach Garrett Runion. “This gives us a great chance to win tomorrow.”

LSU recorded 2-under 70s from sophomore Ingrid Lindblad and freshman Carla Tejedo Mulet, while sophomore Latanna Stone and junior transfer Jessica Bailey shot even to keep the Tigers in the hunt as they defend their 2019 title.

All five LSU players are currently sitting in the top half of the standings. Lindblad is sitting in a tied for second place at 7-under 137 with South Carolina’s Pauline Roussin-Bouchard. The pair is just one stroke behind the leader Mikayla Bardwell from Tennessee.

“We have a deep team and it showed with very consistent scores today. Four of our five scores were par or better and our drop score was just 73.”

Tejedo Mulet is in a five-way tie for ninth place at 2-under for the tournament, while Stone and senior Kendall Griffin, who shot a 1-over 73 today, are tied for 29th place at 3-over 147. Bailey sits in a tied for 37th place at 4-over 148.

Lindblad shot 2-under on the front nine and even on the back nine, while Tejedo Mulet was
1-under on the front and the back.

“We will be in the same pairing as we were today, but unlike two weeks ago, we get to see what the teams we are competing against for the title are doing, which is what we are used to. The focus tomorrow will be on what we can control and try to execute each shot the best we can.”

LSU will tee off at 8:30 a.m. in a shotgun start, paired with Tennessee and South Carolina: Lindblad and Tejedo Mulet from Hole 1, Stone from 2, and Bailey and Griffin from 3. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.
