                   Women’s Basketball Opens SEC Play Against Auburn
 

​   BATON ROUGE, La. – The LSU women’s basketball team opens 2020-21 Southeastern Conference action against Auburn on Thursday, December 31 at 6 p.m. CT at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The host Tigers enter conference play 2-4, while the guest Tigers are 5-3.
 
The game will be broadcast on SEC Network Plus with Lyn Rollins and Victor Howell calling the game. Fans can watch SECN+ on the internet at ESPN.com/watch or on the ESPN app. A link to the game is available on LSUsports.net.
 
The games will also be broadcast on the LSU Sports Radio Network and locally in Baton Rouge on 107.3 FM. Voice of the Lady Tigers Patrick Wright, in his 31st season, will be on the call from courtside in the PMAC. A links to live stats is available at LSUsports.net.
 
1,000- Point Club
Senior Khayla Pointer became the newest member of the LSU women’s basketball 1,000-point career scorers club on December 20 in the third quarter of the Tigers’ win over Loyola Marymount. Pointer brings the number of LSU players to reach the milestone to 34. Pointer now has 1,006 points over her three-plus seasons in the Purple and Gold.
 
LSU Preview
LSU is 2-4 on the season, wrapping up non-conference action with a split at the Duel in the Desert in Las Vegas on December 19 and 20. Redshirt senior Faustine Aifuwa recorded the 12th and 13th double-doubles of her career with 12 points and 13 rebounds in the loss to Pacific and 10 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Loyola Marymount.
 
Against Pacific, Pointer was the leading scorer for LSU with 16 points, while senior Awa Trasi came off the bench to contribute 13 points in the 73-64 loss.
 
In addition to becoming LSU’s 34th 1,000-point scorer against LMU, Pointer made the game-winning basket with 2.3 second left on the clock to push the Tigers over the top for a 54-52 win against the Lions in Las Vegas. Trasi moved back into the starting lineup and matched Pointer for the team lead of 15 points each. Sophomore Domonique Davis contributed a career-high five assists and four steals.
 
Pointer leads LSU with 12.0 points, 3.3 assists and 2.7 steals per game. Aifuwa leads the squad with 9.8 rebounds and 2.1 blocked shots per game, ranking fourth in the SEC in both categories. She is also second in the league in offensive rebounds per game (4.7).
 
Aifuwa is next up on the 1,000 career points watch list with 813 points with a 10.5 scoring average over the first six games of the season. Against Pacific she became the 17th Tiger to grab over 600 career rebounds. Aifuwa needs 15 blocks to move past Julie Gross (178; 1978-80) for second place on the LSU career blocks list.
 
The Opponent – Auburn
Auburn is 5-3 on the season, entering the SEC opener. Senior Unique Thompson is the team’s leading scorer and rebounder with 18.8 points and 15.3 rebounds per game. Her scoring ranks fourth in the SEC, while she is the league’s top rebounder. Thompson is also one of the top-10 free throw shooters in the league at 77.6 percent and is second in the league in steals with 3.1 per game. Sophomore transfer Honesty Scott-Grayson is the team’s second leading scorer with 10.5 points per game, while junior college transfer Kira Lowery leads the team with 17 assists.
 
Auburn leads the series 34-22 with a slight edge in Baton Rouge of 13-12.
 
Season and Single Ticket Sales Information
For the 2020-21 season, seating for LSU women’s basketball games will be general admission in the PMAC. Seating has been reconfigured to support physically-distanced seating. Available seats will be spaced out in blocks of 2, 3 and 4 seats in order maximize attendance opportunities. Fans will be allowed to sit in any seat that is marked as available. Sections 112 and 115 are reserved for player guests.
