Da Boot Sports 1/21/2024 By: Terrill Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - The 10th ranked Lady Tigers (17-2) welcome the Arkansas Razorbacks (14-5) to the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Sunday afternoon for another huge SEC contest. LSU went on to dominate every phase of the game, blowing out the Razorbacks, 99-68. LSU shot well from the floor all day, finishing 36-74 for 49%. They sank 8-20 from behind the three point arc for 40%. They had a decent night from the free throw line, hitting 19-26 for 73%. LSU forced Arkansas into 7 total turnovers while committing 12. The Lady Tigers dominated on the boards, out-rebounding the Razorbacks, 60-33. Five Tigers finished in double figures. Mikaylah Williams finished as the leading scorer for LSU with 21 points. Hailey Van Lith finished with 20 points, while Anel Reese registered a double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 17 rebounds. Aneesah Morrow added 14 points and Flau'Jae Johnson finished with 13 points. The Tigers would get on the board first on a Aneesah Marrow basket at the 9:17 mark, 2-0 Bayou Ben-Gals. LSU opened the game on fire, going on a 9-0 run over the first two minutes of the contest. The Lady Tigers also began the game playing suffocating defense, not allowing the Lady Razorbacks to score until the 3:47 mark of the opening period on a three pointer by Maryam Dauda. At this point LSU lead 18-3. After being held scoreless for much of the first quarter, Arkansas caught fire outscoring the Tigers, 13-7 over the final 3:47 of the period, cutting the LSU lead to 25-16 as the game headed to the second quarter. LSU would go go on a tear to start the second period, going on a 17-7 run over the first six minutes to extend their advantage to 42-23. The Lady Tigers would go on to outscore the Hogs, 13-5 over the final 4:44 of the period to lead, 55-28 at halftime. LSU played a solid first half, shooting 20-40 from the floor for 50%. Solid from behind the three point line, hitting 7-14 for 50%. They finished 8-11 from the free throw line for 73%. The first half turnovers were even at 6 each, while LSU owned the boards, out-rebounding the Razorbacks, 31-12. Mikaylah Williams lead the Tigers in the first half with 15 points. Hailey Van Lith scored 12 points. Angel Reese added 9 points. Flau'Jae Johnson scored 8, Aneesah Morrow added 6 while Aslyah Del Rosario had 5 points. The second half began with both teams going back and forth trading scores, but the Tigers maintained their 20 plus point lead the entire time. LSU held a 68-41 lead at the 4:53 mark during an officials timeout. Both teams played even 13-13 over the first five minutes of the third period. LSU outscored the Lady Hogs, 12-9 over the final five minutes of the third period taking a 30 point lead, 80-50 into the fourth quarter. The Lady Tigers outscored Arkansas, 13-11 over the first five minutes of the final period as LSU held a commanding 93-61 lead with 4:46 left in the contest. The Tigers are now 18-2 overall, 5-1 in the SEC. Next up is one of the biggest games of the season as top ranked South Carolina comes to Baton Rouge to battle LSU on Thursday, January 25th.
