The crowd of 7,406 inside Stegeman Coliseum was the largest for a women’s basketball game at Georgia since 2012. With the win on Thursday night, LSU locked the No. 2 seed in the SEC for the third year in a row and the Tigers will play next Friday in Greenville, South Carolina at 5 p.m. CT. Angel Reese finished the night with a double-double after scoring 17 points and hauling in 15 rebounds. She now has 19 double-doubles on the season. Aneesah Morrow recorded her 17th double-double with 16 points and 10 boards. Morrow added a new season high of 5 assists. “I never take that for granted,” Coach Kim Mulkey said of having two players who consistently get double-doubles. “I always tell our coaches, we see those kids everyday and we see what they do in games– we can’t take it for granted. What they do in getting double-doubles, Angel and Morrow, that doesn’t just happen. Those rebounds don’t just fall in their lap. Those points don’t just happen, They work in there.” Hailey Van Lith led all scorers with 18 points that featured 4 made three-pointers and a perfect 4-4 from the foul line. Flau’Jae Johnson finished with 14 points as she played in her home state of Georgia for the first time as a Tiger. Mikaylah Williams rounded out the starting five that reached double digits with 11 points. Javyn Nicholson led the Bulldogs with 17 points on 7-13 from the field and 5 rebounds. Asia Avinger added 10 points with a pair of three pointers. No other Bulldogs reached double figures. The Tigers went 32-71 from the field for 45-percent compared to Georgia’s 21-58 and 36-percent from the field. LSU only allowed 9 turnovers while forcing 16 and scoring 20 points off those turnovers. LSU won the rebounding battle 43-25 and outscored the Bulldogs in the paint by 30, 38-8. LSU is slated to return home for a match up against Kentucky on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT inside the PMAC on the SEC Network. It will be the final contest before the conference tournament that will begin on March 8th in Greenville, SC. Morrow scored the first six of LSU’s points as the Tigers took a 8-5 lead before the opening timeout. Morrow was 3-3 from the field in the first three minutes of action. After the timeout, Morrow added a couple more and Williams knocked down a triple to force Georgia to call its first 30-second timeout. Avinger made a pair of threes to lead the Bulldogs on a 8-2 run that cut the LSU lead to two. The Tigers extended their lead to 9 before the end of the quarter as Van Lith connected on a three-point buzzer beater, her third straight game with a last-second shot to end a quarter. After a quick bucket from Georgia, LSU went on an 8-0 run to take a 15-point advantage 4 minutes into the second quarter. Morrow reached double figures with 3:30 minutes to play in the first half. Williams split two defenders in transition to find Reese downcourt for an easy lay that gave the Tigers their first 20 point lead of the night. LSU took a 45-23 lead into the break after the Tigers outscored the Bulldogs 21-8 in the second quarter. Both Reese and Morrow finished the half with 12 points each while the pair combined for 12 of the team’s 22 rebounds. LSU scored 24 points in the first half to outscore Georgia’s total points of 23. The Tigers were dominant on the glass with 9 more boards than their opponent, 22-13. Just one Bulldog scored more than six points while LSU had all five starters with 6 points or more in the first half. The Tigers opened the third on a 7-0 run to move its margin to 29 before the media break just under three minutes into the action. Savannah Henderson broke the field goal drought for Georgia with a triple to move back within 30. Late in the quarter LSU was unable to score for the final 3:30, while UGA scored 14 unanswered points to make it a 15-point LSU lead heading to the fourth. Morrow ended the 16-0 Georgia run with a second chance putback to put the Tigers back up by 15 with over 8 minutes remaining in regulation. LSU built off the much needed bucket to produce a 9-0 run and hold the Bulldogs scoreless for over 4 minutes. The Tigers held a 73-48 lead at the final media timeout. LSU rode it lead and cruised to its 7th consecutive win, 80-54. Weil KNOXVILLE, TN - LSU took their five game winning streak to Knoxville to play a very good Tennessee ball club, coming out on top of Rocky Top, 75-60. After having a 12 point halftime lead disappear during a tough third quarter, the Ben-Gals turned it up and took control in the final period for the big victory on the road. Hailey Van Lith led the Tigers with 26 points, Mikaylah Williams had 15 points, Angel Reese recorded another double-double, scoring 11 points while grabbing 16 rebounds. Flau'Jae Johnson added 9 points, Aneesah Morrow finished with 8. Last-Tear Poa and Aalyah Del-Rosario both had 3 points each. The first quarter was a tough back and forth battle. With the game even at 16-16, Hailey Van Lith hit a three pointer with three seconds left on the clock to give LSU a 19-16 lead as the contest headed to the second period. The Tigers would start the second quarter with a 7-2 run to build a 26-18 lead with 7:36 left in the first half. LSU slowly increased their lead over the final seven minutes of the period, outscoring the Volunteers, 12-8 to take a 38-26 lead into the locker room at the halftime break. The Lady Tigers shot 15-48 from the floor in the first half for 31%. They sank 4-9 from behind the three point arc for 44%. They hit 4-5 from the free throw line for 80%. LSU out-rebounded Tennessee, 31-26. Hailey Van Lith led the team at the half with 12 points, Aneesah Morrow scored 8 points, Mikaylah Williams added 7, while Angel Reese, Last-Tear Poa and Aalyah Del-Rosario all scored 3 points each. The Vols would manage to outscore LSU, 10-7 to cut the Tigers lead to 45-36 at the official's timeout with 4:59 left in the period. With LSU going ice cold and struggling to score, a physical, aggressive Tennessee team continued to chip away at the Tigers' lead, pulling to within three, 48-45 at the end of the third quarter. Tennessee continued to play with high intensity, staying right on the Lady Tigers' heals, trailing, 52-51 at the 7:30 mark. Hailey Van Lith took charge for the struggling Tigers, heating up to score 8 points over the next two minutes to help extend the LSU lead to 62-55 with 4:54 left in the contest. Van Lith's play lit a fire under the rest of her teammates as the Tigers began to raise their level of play, pulling away from the Vols. LSU outscored Tennessee, 25-12 over the first seven minutes of the fourth quarter to lead, 73-57 with only 2:43 left on the clock. A huge win for LSU in Rocky Top! Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - The LSU Women's Basketball Team returned home and won their 5th straight game, beating Auburn, 71-66 in front of 11,453 fans in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Thursday night. The Lady Tigers were their own worse enemy, committing 23 total turnovers. The officials also made several bad and questionable calls against LSU in the second half. “It is a good sign and we will find the positive tomorrow when we look at the film,” Coach Kim Mulkey said about the defense. “We will continue to show film on the things we have to clean up. We have to clean up turnovers.” LSU shot 23-50 from the floor on the night for 46% while hitting only 2-5 from behind the tree point arc for 40%. They finished 23-27 from the charity stripe for 85%. LSU also out-rebounded Auburn, 42-28. Angel Reese led the Tigers with a double-double, scoring 25 points while grabbing 20 rebounds. Last-Tear Poa scored 13 points, Flau'Jae Johnson added 11, Hailey Van Lith had 7 points, Aalyah Del Rosario scored 6, Aneesah Morrow finished with 5 points and Mikaylah Williams contributed 4. The Tigers controlled the opening tip. Aneesah Morrow took the ball straight to the basket drawing a foul. She sank both free throws to give LSU an early 2-0 lead. Auburn would race out to a 6-2 lead, but the Tigers fought back going on a 8-0 run to hold a 10-6 lead at the 4:47 official's time out. Auburn outscored LSU 11-9 over the final 4:47 of the first quarter, but a three pointer at the buzzer by Hailey Van Lith gave the Ben-Gals a 19-17 lead as the period ended. The contest had shaped up to be a physical back and forth affair, with the visiting Tigers holding a 25-23 lead with 7:02 left in the first half. With Auburn leading 28-25, LSU would go on a 15-2 run to end the half, taking a 40-30 lead into the locker room at the break. The Tigers shot 16-30 from the floor for 53% in the first half. 2-4 for 50% from the three point line and 6-8 from the free throw line for 75%. Angel Reese finished with 11 points, Flau'Jae Johnson added 7 points, Aalyah Del Rosario scored 6 points. Annesah Morrow finished with 4 points, Hailey Van Lith had 3 points, while Mikaylah Williams added 2. The third quarter remained a physical battle over the first five minutes, with Auburn outscoring LSU, 12-8. The Lady Tigers held a 48-42 advantage at the official's time out with 4:58 to go in the 3rd period. Over the final five minutes of the third period, LSU out-played Auburn, 10-7, taking a 58-49 lead into the fourth quarter. LSU struggled to pull away from a hustling, pesky Auburn team that came to Baton Rouge ready to play. With five minutes remaining in the contest, LSU lead by eight, 64-56. LSU did what they needed to do over the final two minutes of the contest, playing great defense, grabbing big rebounds and making their free throws to hold off Auburn for the victory. The Tigers held the Aggies to just 14 points in the first half and finished the night shooting 52.5-percent from the field. Aneesah Morrow earned her 16th double-double of the season as she led all scorers with 25 points and 15 rebounds to lead both teams off the glass. Morrow looked to be back in her groove after not reaching double figures for just the second time this season against Alabama last week. Morrow scored 19 points in the second half alone. Flau’Jae Johnson finished with 20 points and 9 rebounds as she recorded her 16th-straight double figure game. Johnson went 7-11 from the field and connected on 2 three-point attempts. The Sophomore dropped 13 in the first half and was just one rebound shy from her first double-double this season. Angel Reese recorded her 50th double-double in an LSU uniform on Monday night with a 13 and 10 performance. Reese has earned a double-double in nine of her last ten games this season, she now has 16 this year. Texas A&M, who was without starting point guard Endyia Rogers with an injury, was led by Janiah Barker and Aicha Coulibaly. The duo combined for 37 points scoring 21 and 16, respectively. Sahara Jones was the only other Aggie to reach double figures with 10. No Aggie hauled in more than 9 boards off the glass. LSU will be back at home on Thursday night as it hosts Auburn at 8 p.m. CT inside the PMAC. In their last meeting, Auburn won by a narrow 5-point margin to give LSU its second loss of the season. Both teams started 0-3 from the field through before Reese scored the first points of the game with a fast break layup on an assist from Morrow. The Aggies responded with 4-straight points before Van Lith silenced the crowd with a triple. LSU extended the run to 9-0 to take a 11-4 lead at the first media timeout where Morrow had already grabbed five rebounds. Texas A&M put together a 6-0 run to get within five before LSU went on a 6-0 run of its own to end the quarter. The quarter was capped off with a buzzer beater finish from Johnson that gave the Tigers a 21-10 advantage heading into the second. Johnson rolled over her momentum to open the second quarter with a spot-up three-pointer. LSU improved to a 12-2 run as it shot an impressive 58-percent from the field to start the game. At the first timeout the Tigers were up 33-21 with just under five minutes to play before the half. The Aggies were held to just 2 points in the final 5 minutes of the second. LSU was only able to score 3, all from the foul line, in the final 5 minutes. The Tigers owned a 36-14 lead after the first half. The Tigers were 15-32 for 47-percent from the field and were 29-percent from deep in the opening half. Texas A&M went 7-35 from the field for just 20-percent and were 0-8 from three in the first 20 minutes of action. LSU’s stout defense led the Tiger to 14 fastbreak points in the first half. LSU opened the third with a 6-0 run that saw all 6 points come from the charity stripe inside the first two minutes. Both squads traded buckets through the middle of the quarter that featured some words exchanged back and forth by both teams. Technical fouls were assessed to Reese and A&M’s Kay Kay Green, those fouls offset and no free throws were taken. The Aggies started to chip into the Tiger leader after Reese was subbed out with 4 fouls halfway through the quarter. The Aggies went on an 11-2 run at the end of the quarter to trail by 21 heading into the final quarter. Texas A&M continued to gain on the Tigers as it put together a 7-2 run to get to as close as 18 points with over 8 minutes to play. The Tigers have five regular season games plus the SEC Tournament remaining before the NCAA Tournament. LSU is 21-4 overall and 8-3 in conference play with a team that scores 90.1 points per game (No. 2 in NCAA). All five of LSU’s starters are averaging in double-figures and both Aneesah Morrow and Angel are tied atop the SEC, both with 15 double-doubles. Thursday was the first of two top-16 seed reveals. Kim Maulkey made a couple of key changes at the half. LSU switched from man defense to a 2-3, which helped shut down the Crimson Tide attack. Mulkey also replaced Hailey Van Lith with Last-Tear Poa at point guard. Poa had a great second half to spear-head the come back win. Defensively, the Ben-Gals turned up the heat, holding Alabama to only 9 points in the third quarter and only 16 in the fourth. Angel Reese finished with a double-double to lead the Tigers with 27 points and 19 rebounds. Flau'jae Johnson scored 16 points, while Mikaylah Williams added 14 points. Last-Tear Poa had a career high 11 points. Aneesah Morrow finished with 9 points and Hailey Van Lith scored 6 on the day. LSU finished the day shooting 30-71 from the floor for 42%. They finished 2-14 from three point land for 14% while sinking 23-29 from the free throw for 79%. LSU turned the ball over 13 times, but forced Bama into 17 total turnovers. The Tigers out-rebounded the Tide, 54-34. Alabama would get on the board first on a three pointer by Loyal McQueen. LSU responded with two quick baskets to take the lead 4-3 at the 8:10 mark. The Tide would outscore LSU 20-10 over the final eight minutes of the first quarter to hold a 23-14 lead as the contest headed to the second period. Bama was red hot from the three point arc over the first ten minutes hitting 6-12 attempts. The Crimson Tide continued their strong play in the second quarter, outscoring LSU, 12-10 over the first six minutes of the period to extend their advantage to, 35-24 with 3:53 left in the first half. The Lady Tigers were unable to gain any ground on the Tide over the final four minutes of the period, as Alabama would lead, 41-31 at the half. Angel Reese lead the Tigers at the half with 10 points. LSU forced Bama into five first half turnover while committing eight.. LSU out-rebounded Aalabama, 28-20. The Tide sank eight three pointer in the first half to help their cause. The Tigers started the second half looking like a different team, going on a 6-0 run, cutting the Bama lead to 41-37 with 8:47 left on the clock in the third quarter. After a single Bama free throw, LSU would score four unanswered to pull to within one point, 42-41 at the 7:08 mark. LSU regained the lead at the 6:13 mark on a basket by Angel Reese, 43-42, Ben-Gals. The Tigers were now wide awake and roaring as they outscored Bama, 18-8 over the final six minutes of the third quarter, taking a 61-50 lead into the final period. LSU continued to play at a high level, outscoring the Tide 8-3 to start the fourth quarter. 69-53, Tigers with 6:56 left in the contest. The win marked LSU’s 20th of the season, keeping Coach Kim Mulkey’s streak alive of a 20-win season in all 24 years of her head coaching career. The double-double duo of Angel Reese and Aneesah combined for 26 of LSU’s 55 rebounds. Reese earned her 14th double-double of the season with 15 points and 16 boards. Morrow scored 13 points and hauled in 10 boards for her 15th double-double this season. Morrow is now six points shy of 2,000 in her college career. This marked the 11th time this season LSU has had multiple players record double-doubles in the same game. Flau’Jae Johnson led all scorers with 17 points on 6-15 from the field to record her 14th straight double figure game, 20th this season. LSU dominated the glass too, 57-35. “We’re playing better basketball right now than really what we have all year,” Coach Mulkey said. “It starts on the defensive end of the court. It starts with helping each other more, moving our feet more, using our bench more. We can score the ball at all positions, but we have to get better defensively and we have. When you talk about physicality, we’re pretty big.” The Tigers will be back inside the PMAC on Sunday afternoon as they host Alabama at 3 p.m. CT on ESPN2 for the annual Play4Kay game. Reese led a 8-0 run to open the game, dominating both ends with 6 points and 5 boards in the first three minutes of play. After giving up just one bucket to the Commodores, the Tigers put together another 8-0 ahead of the first media timeout. LSU held Vanderbilt without a field goal for the final five minutes of the quarter and took a comfortable 22-7 lead into the second. The Tigers held Vanderbilt to 2-16 from the field and 0-7 from deep in the opening ten minutes. Reese, who finished the quarter with 8 points and 8 rebounds, picked up her second foul towards the end of the quarter and was on the bench for the whole second quarter. After a slow start to the second LSU had a 29-13 lead at the media timeout with 5 minutes before the half. LSU looked to gain some momentum as Morrow picked off a pass in the backcourt and drove inside to finish the fast break. Del Roasrio capped off a 8-2 run with 30 seconds to go before Vanderbilt connected on its first three of the night. The Commodores missed 17 in a row from deep to start the game. LSU took a 19-point lead into the break after shooting 41-percent from the field compared to Vandy’s 23-percent. The Tigers hauled in 11 more boards than the Commodores and out scored their opponent in the paint 22-8. Vanderbilt went 2-2 early in the third quarter to outscore LSU 14-11 before the media timeout. Reese. Morrow, and Johnson reached double figures as the Tigers improved its total to 50 at the break. LSU was held without a field goal for over 4 minutes in the back half of the third as Vanderbilt began to chip into the Tiger lead. Cambridge scored her first 7 points of the night in the third to lead her squad to its first 20-point quarter of the contest. LSU ended the third on a 7-4 run to take a 58-40 lead into the final 10 minutes. The Tigers held on to its lead as Vanderbilt slowly chipped away at the margin early. The Commodores put themselves within 16 four minutes into the quarter but LSU made its free throws and started to pull away before the media break. After the timeout LSU’s reserves came in to build the lead up to as many as 26 and hold off the Commodores. Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - The Lady Tigers return home looking to snap their two game losing streak against a tough Florida Gators ball club on Sunday afternoon in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The Lady Tigers came to play and take out their frustrations, unfortunately it was the Gators who took the abuse, taking a 106-66 spanking in front of 12,707 LSU fans. Six Lady Tigers scored in double figures. Hailey Van Lith and Mikaylah Williams both lead the team with 21 points each. Angel Reese and Aneesah Morrow both finished with a double-double. Reese had 14 points and 10 rebounds while Morrow added 18 points and 20 rebounds. Aalyah Del-Rasario had 11 points. Flau'jae Johnson finished with 10. LSU shot great all day long, finishing 37-75 from the floor for 49%... They finished 7-15 from behind the three point line for 47%... LSU had a busy day at the charity stripe, sinking 25-34 for 74%... The Tigers forced Florida into 20 total turnovers while out-rebounding the Gators, 59-34.... LSU won the opening tip and scored quickly on a fast break lay up by Angel Reese. The Gators would then go on a 6-0 run, taking a 6-2 lead with 6:42 left in the first quarter. LSU would answer with a run of their own over the next two minutes, racing back with 10 straight to take a 12-6 lead. Thanks to some tenacious defense and solid shooting, LSU outscored the Gators, 12-5 over the final four minutes of the opening quarter as the Lady Tigers held a 24-11 lead as the game headed into the second quarter. The second quarter began with both teams running the floor fast & furious over the first four minutes. LSU raced out to extend their lead to 22 points, 38-16 with 5:52 left in the first half. The back and forth action picked back up over the final five minutes of the period with LSU out scoring Florida 16-12 to take a commanding 54-28 lead into the locker room at the half. The Tigers had a great first half shooting from the floor, hitting 20-32 for 63%. They also shot well from behind the three point arc, sinking 3-5 for 60%, while hitting 11-15 free throws for 73%. The Lady Tigers forced the Gators into 13 first half turnovers and out-rebounded Florida, 24-12. Angel Reese and Hailey Van Lith both lead the Tigers at the break with 11 points each. Mikaylah Williams added 10 points. Last-Tear Poa and Aneesah Morrow scored 7 points each. Aalyah Del Rosario finished with 5 points, while Flau'jae Johnson had 3. The third quarter began like the second ended with both teams trading baskets at a furious pace. But the Tigers did just a bit more to extend their lead to 29, 64-35 with 6:53 left in the period. LSU out-scored the Gators, 16-8 over the final 6:53 of the third quarter to take an 80-43 lead into the fourth quarter. Hailey Van Lith caught fire in the third period, scoring 10 points. LSU continued to beat up on Florida in the final period, extending their advantage to 41 points, 97-56 with 5:14 left in the contest. With 4:36 left on the clock, Kim Mulkey pulled out the starters and emptied the bench to close out the game. The Tiger reserves did a solid job while taking advantage of their playing time, doing enough to keep the LSU extensive lead safe while working the clock. Florida's only points in the final 3:22 of the contest came from the free throw line. With the win, LSU is now 19-4 overall while they improve to 6-3 in the SEC. Next up for LSU is a trip to Nashville on Thursday, Feb. 8th to take on Vanderbilt.
