Da Boot Sports 11/29/2022 LSU Sports Communications By: LSU Staff BATON ROUGE, La. — No. 11 LSU (8-0) remained undefeated as the Tigers battled to a 63-55 win over Southeastern Louisiana (4-3) Tuesday night in the PMAC. SEC player of the week, Angel Reese, led the team with 25 points and 11 rebounds as she picked up her eighth double-double of the season in as many games. Jasmine Carson recorded her second consecutive double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Sa’Myah Smith tied her career-high rebounds with 11 rebounds, starting for the second time of her career. Smith played dominant defensively, recording a career-high 5 blocks and 3 steals. The Tigers will play in their first true road game of the season on Sunday at 4 p.m. CT when they take on Tulane in New Orleans. Baton Rouge native, Alexius Horne, led the Southeastern with a game-high 28 points in the return to her hometown. Horne accounted for 11 of the 23 made field goals and was the only Lady Tiger to score in double figures. She also grabbed a team-high 7 rebound. Southeastern held LSU to multiple season-lows, including points, field-goal percentage and rebounds. “I knew Southeastern would come in here and play like that,” Coach Mulkey said. “I knew she (Ayla Guzzardo) coaches her butt off. I knew that to those players it meant something to play LSU. I grew up in this state, but I only have two in that locker room that understand that and are from the state of Louisiana.” LSU fell behind for the first time this season as SLU jumped out to an 8-0 lead early on. With four minutes remaining in the first, LSU got within one as Reese scored five straight points. Horne had 10 points in the opening quarter as SLU went into the second with an 18-15 lead. Carson opened up the second quarter with a quick corner three to tie things up and just under a minute later Alexis Morris also hit a three to give the Tigers their first lead of the night. Both teams went scoreless for two minutes throughout the middle of the quarter, but Kateri Poole broke the silence with a tough three-point play as she was fouled on the drive in. LSU ended the quarter on a 10-4 run to extend its lead to 11 before the half, 37-26. After an early free throw by SLU, the Tigers responded with a 9-0 run early in the third quarter. The run included five points from Carson and four from Morris to put the Tigers ahead by 19 with just under seven minutes to play. After LSU forced an SLU timeout the Lady Lions went on their longest run of the game (13-0) to cut the LSU lead to 8. The Tigers headed into the final quarter with a 51-43 lead. Thirty seconds into the final quarter Reese tallied her tenth rebound and secured her eighth double-double through eight games at LSU. Southeastern cut the Tiger lead to four with 5:21 remaining. LSU scored seven unanswered points of its own late in the quarter to extend its cushion, allowing the Tigers to remain undefeated. Photos Below By: Michael Bacigalupi

The Blazers were led by Denim Deshields and Desiree Ware with 14 and 12 points, respectively. UAB entered the game averaging 10.8 three-pointers made per game, but the Tigers limited the Blazers to just 4 makes from downtown. Reese opened up the game with six straight unanswered points to take a 6-0 lead through the first two minutes. UAB responded with a pair of threes to make it 13-10 LSU, this was the smallest lead of the game for the Tigers. A 12-4 Tiger run extended the LSU lead as Reese tallied 12 points through seven minutes of play. LSU shot 77-percent from the field and led the Blazers by 10 after the first quarter, 27-17. The Blazers could not stop Reese as she dominated the post and added five more points in the first two minutes of the 2nd quarter. A 14-2 run through the middle of the quarter gave LSU a 21-point lead with three minutes to play before the half. Morris ended the half on a made free throw as she was fouled on her first three of the game. The Tigers headed into the half with a 48-29 lead. In the first half LSU’s guards were swallowing rebounds as Carson had a career-high 8 rebounds in the opening half alone and Johnson grabbed 9, one shy of her career-high. Reese led the team with 17 points as she went 80-percent from the field before the half. LSU started the second half hot, going on a 7-0 run in the first 1:05 of the third quarter as Morris hit a pull-up bank shot followed by a three and then found Reese on the fast break for a lay-in to force a quick UAB timeout. Carson secured the first double-double of her career as Reese found her wide open on a fast break with three minutes to go in the third quarter. The Tigers out-rebounded the Blazers 54-21, 40 of LSU’s rebounds came off the defensive glass. Da Boot Sports/Fanboy Publication 11/24/2022 LSU Sports Communications By: LSU Staff BIMINI, Bahamas — The LSU Women’s Basketball show took to the road Thursday as the No. 12 Tigers (6-0) took down George Mason (3-4), 80-52 in its first game of the Goombay Splash in The Bimini, Bahamas. Angel Reese led the tigers with 21 points and 19 rebounds as she secured her sixth consecutive double-double to start her LSU career. She’s had at least 15 rebounds in each of the past five games and has had a career-high 19 in two straight. Freshman forward Sa’Myah Smith came off the bench and had a career-high 14 points and forward LaDazhia Williams scored 13 as LSU’s posts were dominant. “We wanted to get the ball inside early and we did,” said LSU coach Kim Mulkey. “I’ve got to go back and watch film and ask if we did not get the ball in there in the second half.” With the win, LSU will match up against UAB on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT. That game will also stream on FloHoops. UAB and George Mason will play Friday afternoon. Alexis Morris finished with 13 points and freshman Flau’jae Johnson had 10 as she has still scored in double figures every game of her college career thus far. LSU’s streak of consecutive games came to an end on Thursday at five games as the Tigers were unable to reach the century mark. At least one NCAA DI team had a streak of six straight 100-point games and it was the 1981-82 Louisiana Tech team that Mulkey was a player on. The Patriots were led by Sonia Smith with 15 and Taylor Jameson with 11. Thirty of George Mason’s 66 field goal attempts came from behind the arc, but the Patriots shot just 20-percent from downtown. LSU showcased its talent in the first half, jumping out to a quick and explosive lead. But George Mason responded in the second half, scoring 33 points over the final two quarters. “We forced a lot of missed shots (in the first half),” said Coach Mulkey. “We gave them one opportunity in the first and we got out and we ran. We didn’t do that in the second half and their defense didn’t change. The Tigers started the game on an early 8-0 run and half of those points came from the free throw line as Reese and Johnson both started 2-2 at the stripe. Through the first five minutes of the game, Reese tallied 6 points and 6 rebounds, looking for her sixth consecutive double-double. Reese finished the quarter with 10 points and 8 rebounds as the Tigers ended the quarter with a 27-9 lead. Just four minutes into the second quarter Reese picked up her tenth rebound and secured her sixth double-double through six games as a Tiger. LSU ended the quarter on a 10-1 run to put the Tigers up by 29 before the half, 48-19. Morris scored 10 in the first half. Through the first two quarters the Tigers shot 65.5-percent from the field and held the Patriots to 24.2-percent. LSU scored 32 of its points in the paint and added 10 more off turnovers. The Tigers were dominant in the paint on both sides as they forced the Patriot offense to take perimeter shots late in the shot clock. George Mason went 2-16 from three in the first half and scored just 10 points in the paint. After a slow start to the third quarter LSU extended its lead to 34 points. Both teams found themselves at the line as there were a combined 11 personal fouls committed in the third. George Mason went 4-4 and LSU went 7-8. LSU gave up 18 in the third and headed into the final quarter with a 71-37 lead. George Mason refused to go quietly though as the Patriots fought hard in the fourth quarter, making it difficult for the Tigers to score and rebounding relentlessly on both sides of the ball. LSU held strong though for their sixth consecutive win out of the gates. “Fatigue set in,” Coach Mulkey explained. “We’ve got to get in better shape. We didn’t defend good in the second half and didn’t rebound hard and I think George Mason had just a little toughness about them in the fourth quarter.” Da Boot Sports 11/21/2022 By: David Penn BATON ROUGE, LA - The #15 LSU Tigers (5-0) have opened the season with five straight performances of 100 points or more after defeating the Northwestern State Demons (1-3), 100-45. The Tigers have amassed 548 points in their first five games of the season. The Tigers got off to a slower start than normal, but turned up the heat in the second quarter and never looked back. Also for the fifth straight game, the Tiger defense only allowed one player from the opposing team to score in double figures. Continuing on trends that have been present in every game, Angel Reese continued her streak of double doubles, recording a double double in every game so far. True freshman Flau’jae Johnson led the field with a new career high, scoring 27 points against an NSU defense that seemed to have no answer for the talented guard as she achieved her first career double double with 10 rebounds. The Tigers turned on the afterburners in the second period, outscoring the Demons 38-13 in the period to take a 60-25 lead into the locker room at the break. Reese again secured her double double at the half with 16 points and 11 rebounds. She finished the game with 23 points and 19 boards. Jiselle Woodson was the only Demon to score in double figures for NSU, doing so off the bench, dropping in 15 points. Northwestern had no players with more than four rebounds as LSU outrebounded the Demons 56-27.. The Tiger defense did their best to stymie NSU on every front including inbound passes, at one point sending three straight inbound passes back out of bounds. LSU picked up where it left off in the third period, dropping another 29 points on the Demon’s defense while stretching their lead to 89-36 by the end of the quarter. Johnson followed up her 16 point second quarter with an 11 point third quarter. Coach Kim Mulkey would sub out the starters in the fourth quarter, but hitting the century mark was important for the Lady Tigers on the floor. LSU went through a three minute stretch without a point before Jasmine Carson sank the three point shot that allowed LSU to continue on it’s record streak of consecutive 100 point performances on a basket that provided the game’s final margin. The Tigers will take their first road trip to the Bimini, Bahamas during Thanksgiving for the Goombay Splash where they will play George Mason and UAB. LSU will kick things off in Bimini on Thanksgiving at 1 p.m. CT against George Mason on FloHoops. This LSU coverage is a 'Da Boot Sports/FanBoy' production.. As always, Thank You for your support.. God Bless Da Boot Sports 11/16/22 By: David Penn BATON ROUGE, LA - The LSU women’s basketball team has been all gas no brakes as the Tigers have topped the century mark in four straight games for the first time in program history. Also for the first time this season, the Tigers were challenged by the opposition in the first quarter which ended with LSU leading 22-20, the closest margin at the end of the first period through four games. Houston Christian hung in with LSU and gave the Tigers all they could handle, but it didn’t last for the Huskies as LSU would assert its dominance in the second quarter. LSU would stifle the HCU offense from the beginning of the second quarter until the Huskies sank a pair of shots in the last 30 seconds of the period, the only points that HCU managed in the quarter. The LSU offense went on a 24-0 run before surrendering the 5 points just before halftime, the longest run for the Tigers on the young season. The Halftime margin favored LSU 46-25. LSU had 21 points in the paint by halftime. Angel Reese led the Tigers in points and rebounds and again earned her double double by halftime. Reese paced the field with 29 points and 16 boards and has a double double in all four games this season. Jasmine Carson got into an early rhythm and sank beautiful shot after beautiful shot including three shots from beyond the arc and finished with 13 points. La Dazhia Smith, Alexis Morris, and Flau’jae Johnson each added 12 points for the Tigers. Julija Vujakovic was again the lone player for the opposition to score in double figures, getting 18 points and was consistently the toughest matchup for the Tigers on the floor. No Huskie player grabbed more than five rebounds as LSU outrebounded HCU 53-28. Houston Christian did manage to drop 12 points during the third period but LSU added 25 points of their own to take a 71-37 lead into the fourth and final period. In the fourth quarter the Tiger defense allowed 10 points, but again scored 30 to close out the game and win by a final margin of 101-47. With under a minute to play and LSU leading 99-44, the Tigers were determined to make one final basket to maintain the 100 point streak. Izzy Besselman grabbed a rebound off of Vujakovic’s miss with 41 seconds to go, LSU pushed up to it’s half court where Emily Ward had her shot come off the iron with 24 seconds left. Alisa Williams would grab the offensive rebound and hit the turnaround jumper with 19 seconds left on the clock giving LSU the 101-44 edge. N’denasija Collins would hit a 3 pointer as time expired for the final margin. With the win, LSU improves to 4-0 and will take on Northwestern State on Sunday at the PMAC with a 2:00pm tip, Northwestern is 1-1. The loss drops HCU to 1-2. Da Boot Sports 11/13/2022 By: David Penn BATON ROUGE, LA - For the second time in program history the #16 LSU Tigers have scored over 100 points a game in three consecutive games. LSU has dispatched its first three opponents of the season by an average of 72.6 points. Not much has changed from a statistical perspective over the course of these games, LSU has scored on average over 50 points off the break and turnovers and out rebounded opponents by wide margins. The Tigers were led by Sophomore transfer Angel Reese, who posted her third straight double double after averaging a double double last season for Maryland. Reese scored 17 points and grabbed 15 boards and was in double double territory before half time. LSU was led in scoring by freshman Flau’jae Johnson with 18 points, who did most of her damage from the charity stripe, sinking 10-12 from the free throw line. The Tigers began the game scoring the first 9 points before Western Carolina would drop a 3 pointer to pull within 6 points, but then it was off to the races as LSU would go on run after run. LSU ended the first quarter with a 35-10 lead. The defense would force several shot clock violations throughout the game and out rebounded the Catamounts 60-29. At the half, LSU went to the locker room with a commanding 59-19 advantage. LSU would continue to bring stifling defense in the third quarter and Western Carolina only scored three points in the third period, which ended with LSU leading 82-22. Coach Kim Mulkey would sub out all five positions in the final frame, but the defense kept the pressure on and converted several transition opportunities. Feel good story Emily Ward, a walkon that recently earned a scholarship, went 4-4 from the floor and finished with 8 points and 3 rebounds. For the third straight game, only one player on the opposing team managed to score in double figures, Kehinde Obasuyi scored 10 points for Western Carolina. No player on the Western Carolina team grabbed more than five rebounds. LSU improved to 3-0 and Western Carolina fell to 2-1 following the defeat. “I’m going to look at the defense first,” Coach Kim Mulkey said. “I thought we did better on some things defensively. I thought especially Jasmine. I thought she gave better ball pressure, got her hands on some things but she also anticipated some things. We didn’t have many turnovers which is always a good thing. We contested shots; We are getting better.” LSU will host Houston Christian on Wednesday with an early 11:00am tip at the PMAC. Houston Christian comes to Baton Rouge with a 1-1 record after beating University of Southwest (N.M.) and dropping a game to #22 Nebraska. Da Boot Sports 11/11/2022 By: David Penn BATON ROUGE, LA - After a record setting season opener where the Tigers outscored Bellarmine 125-50, the women’s basketball team followed up with another 70 point win over Mississippi Valley State, crossing the 100 point mark in each of their first two games. Coach Kim Mulkey’s squad improves to 2-0 to start the season with a #14 ranking in the polls. LSU raced out to a 10-0 lead in the first period before finishing the quarter with a 32-9 lead. The Tigers were led by senior Alexis Morris, who had 18 points and 7 assists. Sophomore transfer Angel Reese managed her second double double in as many games with a 16 point 15 rebound performance. Freshman Sa’myah Smith chalked up 7 points and 10 rebounds. The LSU defense forced 25 turnovers and turned that into 26 points and limited the opposition to just one player scoring in double figures, MSV starting guard Kyriana Jones scored 11 points. After limiting the MSV offense to just 9 first period points, the Devils ended the first half with just 17 points while LSU cruised to halftime with 59 points, leading the Devils 59-17. LSU held MSV to a 22.3 shooting percentage while making 53% of their shots. The Tigers out rebounded the Devils 59-20! Coach Mulkey talked about the Devils playing zone, “It was a game where I’m glad the other team played zone. We need to play against teams that play zones, and I thought we attacked the zones better late in the game. When the game started, I think we were confused about if they were in a 3-2 or a 2-3 zone and we didn’t have people in the right positions. We’ll get the film out tomorrow and look at ourselves before we look at Western Carolina.” The Devils had their best quarter in the third period where they put up 15 points, but the Tigers added 34 points to go into the fourth quarter with a 93-32 lead. The final margin of 111-41 marked the second time in program history that LSU opened the season with two 100 point performances. The Tigers will take on Western Carolina on Sunday 11/13 at the PMAC with a 3:00pm tip time. Western Carolina is 2-0 with the Lady Catamounts earning victories over Bluefield State and Winthrop. LSU also set a program record with 44 made free-throws – four shy of a NCAA record. The Tigers’ victory margin of 75 was one shy from tying a program record. This is the second time a Coach Kim Mulkey team has scored 100+ points during her time at LSU as the Tigers had a 100-36 victory over Alcorn State during her first year in Baton Rouge. Coach Mulkey’s team got off to a hot start for her second season in Baton Rouge as multiple newcomers had big-time performances. Angel Reese, the highly touted transfer from Maryland, stacked the sheet with a career-high 31 points on 11-14 shooting, 13 rebounds (5 offensive), 4 steals, 2 assists and 2 blocks. “I’ll never take her for granted with her skills,” Coach Mulkey said of Reese. “I’ve told her many times, and I tell everyone else she’s a beast on the boards, and I say that in the most complimentary of ways.” “I was really excited, and I felt really confident going into the game,” Reese said. “I let the game come to me.” Freshman Sa’Myah Smith had a double-double in her LSU debut, posting 12 points and 11 rebounds (6 offensive). Other players that had double-figures in their LSU debut included transfer Jasmine Carson (17), Flau’jae Johnson (14) and Kateri Poole (14). Returning guard Alexis Morris was LSU’s other player to reach double-figures, scoring 16 points. Coach Mulkey improved to 22-1 in season openers, winning each debut since the 2004-05 season when her team fell to LSU The Knights were led by Hayley Harrison who finished with 3 three-pointers and 19 points total. Harrison was the only player from Bellarmine to score in double figures. The Tigers went 44-57 from the line, shattering the free-throw record as they scored over a third of their points off free throws. LSU out rebounded Bellarmine 56-28, and capitalized off the offensive glass, scoring 20 second chance points. The Tigers will be back at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center for Military Appreciation Night on Thursday as the Tigers take on Mississippi Valley State at 7:00 p.m. CT. The game will be streamed on SECN+. Fan got an immediate glimpse of what the future holds with Reese as she scored 10 of LSU’s first 17 points. The Tigers then went on a 20-2 run that was supported by the defense causing multiple shot clock violations. LSU ended the quarter with a 23 point lead. Morris started the second quarter by draining a corner three as she fell backwards onto the floor. LSU continued with a 15-0 run that saw another trey from Morris and 5 more points from Reese. The Tigers ended the quarter shooting 8-9 from the field and finished 2-2 from behind the arc.
