4/25/2021 By: Terrill J. Weil Da Boot Sports BATON ROUGE, LA: LSU Athletic Director Scott Woodward announced Sunday that Kim Mulkey will be the next head coach of the LSU women's basketball team. "Kim Mulkey is a champion and a Hall of Famer, and we are thrilled to welcome her home," said Woodward. "Her accomplishments are unprecedented, her passion is unrivaled, and her commitment to winning in all aspects of life – in the classroom, on the court, and in the community – is unparalleled. We look forward to working with her as she instills that championship culture at LSU." Mulkey will be introduced at a press conference on Monday at 5 p.m. in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Fans are invited to attend... Mulkey is from Tickfaw, Louisiana and lead Hammond High School to four straight state championships as a point guard. She would then play for Louisiana Tech, where is eventually would join the coaching staff. She has won championships at Louisiana Tech both as a player and assistant coach. She was hired by Baylor in 2000 and has become one of the greatest head coaches in college basketball history. She leaves Baylor after 21 seasons with a record of 632-104, including three national championships... In 2012, Mulkey made NCAA history by leading Baylor to a perfect 40–0 season, the most wins in a season in college basketball history, men or women. She has lead Baylor to the NCAA Tournament 19 times in 21 years, (including 2019-20 COVID year. No Tournament), including five Sweet 16 appearances, six Elite Eight, four Final Fours, winning three national titles. She also won a NIT championship. Personally, this is a dream come true for me. I have been a huge fan of Coach Mulkey for several years and always hoped this would become a reality. I wrote an article in March this year about the mediocre decline of the LSU women's program over the past few seasons, pleading with Mr. Woodward to hire Mulkey away from Baylor and bringing her back to Louisiana. Several readers thought it was crazy to suggest, some saying it would never, ever happen..... Get ready Baton Rouge for some championship caliber NCAA women's basketball... I wonder if Mr. Woodward reads Da Boot Sports..?????? GEAUX TIGERS!!!!
