LSU DEFEATS UCLA 78-69, ADVANCES TO THE ELITE EIGHT

   ALBANY, NY - It was a sweet day for LSU in Albany, New York as they beat UCLA, 78-69 to advance to the Elite Eight. 

   The Tigers played incredible defense late in the game and made the big shots needed, both from the floor and from the free throw line, outscoring the Bruins, 12-2 over the final 2:26, advancing to the Elite Eight.

   LSU finished the game shooting 26-57 from the floor for 46%. They were 2-5 from behind the three point arc for 40%. The Tigers sank 24-31 free throws for 77%. LSU committed 13 total turnovers while forcing the Briuns into 19. UCLA out-rebounded LSU, 44-38. 
   Flau'Jae Johnson led the Tigers with 24 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double. Aneesah Morrow finished with 17 points, Angel Reese registered another double-double, scoring 16 points while grabbing 11 rebounds. Mikaylah Williams added 12 points, Hailey Van Lith scored 7 and Aalyah Del-Rosario finished with 2 points on the day.



   UCLA controlled the opening tip and quickly put the first basket of the game on the board on a layup by Angela Dugalic, 2-0 Bruins.

   The game was living up to its sweet sixteen hype with both teams giving and receiving blows back and forth  as LSU held a 8-7 lead at the official's timeout at the 4:53 mark.

   Both teams continued to play well over the final five minutes of the opening period. As the contest headed to the second quarter the score was all even at 15-15. 

   LSU started the second period with a 6-0 run to build a 23-18 advantage with 6:51 left in the first half. 

   With the Tigers up, 25-18, UCLA would go on a 6-1. run to cut the LSU lead to two, 26-24 forcing Kim Mulkey to call a timeout to settle things down with 3:31 left on the clock. 

   LSU would finish the second quarter out-scoring the Bruins, 11-9 to take a 34-27 lead into the locker room at the halftime break.


   Both teams played even over the first five minutes of the third quarter, 10-10, as LSU held a 44-37 lead at the 4:43 mark. 

   The Bruins would then come alive, going on a 8-0 run to regain the lead, 45-44 with 2:44 left in the period. 

   The Tigers battled back to tie the game, 48-48 as the third quarter came to an end. 

   These two great teams continued to play even through the first five minutes of the final period. With 4:57 left in the contest the game was tied at 60-60. 

   Next up LSU will play the winner of the Iowa vs. Colorado game on Monday, April 1st at 6:15pm.
