Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - The Lady Tigers return home looking to snap their two game losing streak against a tough Florida Gators ball club on Sunday afternoon in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The Lady Tigers came to play and take out their frustrations, unfortunately it was the Gators who took the abuse, taking a 106-66 spanking in front of 12,707 LSU fans. Six Lady Tigers scored in double figures. Hailey Van Lith and Mikaylah Williams both lead the team with 21 points each. Angel Reese and Aneesah Morrow both finished with a double-double. Reese had 14 points and 10 rebounds while Morrow added 18 points and 20 rebounds. Aalyah Del-Rasario had 11 points. Flau'jae Johnson finished with 10. LSU shot great all day long, finishing 37-75 from the floor for 49%... They finished 7-15 from behind the three point line for 47%... LSU had a busy day at the charity stripe, sinking 25-34 for 74%... The Tigers forced Florida into 20 total turnovers while out-rebounding the Gators, 59-34.... LSU won the opening tip and scored quickly on a fast break lay up by Angel Reese. The Gators would then go on a 6-0 run, taking a 6-2 lead with 6:42 left in the first quarter. LSU would answer with a run of their own over the next two minutes, racing back with 10 straight to take a 12-6 lead. Thanks to some tenacious defense and solid shooting, LSU outscored the Gators, 12-5 over the final four minutes of the opening quarter as the Lady Tigers held a 24-11 lead as the game headed into the second quarter. The second quarter began with both teams running the floor fast & furious over the first four minutes. LSU raced out to extend their lead to 22 points, 38-16 with 5:52 left in the first half. The back and forth action picked back up over the final five minutes of the period with LSU out scoring Florida 16-12 to take a commanding 54-28 lead into the locker room at the half. The Tigers had a great first half shooting from the floor, hitting 20-32 for 63%. They also shot well from behind the three point arc, sinking 3-5 for 60%, while hitting 11-15 free throws for 73%. The Lady Tigers forced the Gators into 13 first half turnovers and out-rebounded Florida, 24-12. Angel Reese and Hailey Van Lith both lead the Tigers at the break with 11 points each. Mikaylah Williams added 10 points. Last-Tear Poa and Aneesah Morrow scored 7 points each. Aalyah Del Rosario finished with 5 points, while Flau'jae Johnson had 3. The third quarter began like the second ended with both teams trading baskets at a furious pace. But the Tigers did just a bit more to extend their lead to 29, 64-35 with 6:53 left in the period. LSU out-scored the Gators, 16-8 over the final 6:53 of the third quarter to take an 80-43 lead into the fourth quarter. Hailey Van Lith caught fire in the third period, scoring 10 points. LSU continued to beat up on Florida in the final period, extending their advantage to 41 points, 97-56 with 5:14 left in the contest. With 4:36 left on the clock, Kim Mulkey pulled out the starters and emptied the bench to close out the game. The Tiger reserves did a solid job while taking advantage of their playing time, doing enough to keep the LSU extensive lead safe while working the clock. Florida's only points in the final 3:22 of the contest came from the free throw line. With the win, LSU is now 19-4 overall while they improve to 6-3 in the SEC. Next up for LSU is a trip to Nashville on Thursday, Feb. 8th to take on Vanderbilt.
