LSU Women's Basketball Team Picks Up Top-10 Victory on Historic Night; Defeating Hokies, 82-64

Baton Rouge, LA- Following a four-game hiatus, star forward Angel Reese returned to the lineup for the Lady Tigers and helped lead the team to an 82-64 victory over the ninth-ranked Virginia Tech Hokies. Her return comes after announcements that Kateri Poole was not with the squad while losing sophomore forward Sa’Myah Smith for the season with a torn ACL, MCL, and meniscus.

Not only did LSU pick up a statement win, coach Kim Mulkey achieved her 700th career win. Mulkey became the fastest ever to the milestone, having done so in just 813 games. She passes legendary UCONN coach Geno Auriemma, who previously held the record at 822 games.

The Tigers trailed early versus the ACC foe and made a triumphant comeback. After the first quarter, Tech led 20-13. LSU’s defense would come alive in the following frame and hold the Hokies to nine second-quarter points. LSU’s star power flipped the script and enabled the team to jump to a 35-29 lead at halftime.

Hokie guard Georgia Amoore led all scorers with 25 on the night, but it was not enough to keep pace with the Tigers’ balanced offensive attack. Four of LSU’s starters brought their point total into double digits; freshman Mikaylah Williams headed the Tigers with 20. Reese and Morrow tallied 19 points.

LSU got to the line often but struggled from the charity stripe, only managing to shoot 17-26, a 65.4% rate.
LSU’s largest lead of the night was 22 points late in the fourth. Virginia Tech attempted to rely on their three-point shooting to keep them in the game, but they could only knock down four shots from the perimeter all night.

LSU’s a powerhouse on both sides of the ball, and it showed against a top-ranked opponent. It’s a long season, but the Tigers are in a prime position to make another championship run.

The Lady Tigers are back in action on December 10th at home against the UL Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns. The game will be at the PMAC at 2:00 pm CST and broadcast on SECN+. Geaux Tigers!
