Da Boot Sports 11/21/2022 By: David Penn BATON ROUGE, LA - The #15 LSU Tigers (5-0) have opened the season with five straight performances of 100 points or more after defeating the Northwestern State Demons (1-3), 100-45. The Tigers have amassed 548 points in their first five games of the season. The Tigers got off to a slower start than normal, but turned up the heat in the second quarter and never looked back. Also for the fifth straight game, the Tiger defense only allowed one player from the opposing team to score in double figures. Continuing on trends that have been present in every game, Angel Reese continued her streak of double doubles, recording a double double in every game so far. True freshman Flau’jae Johnson led the field with a new career high, scoring 27 points against an NSU defense that seemed to have no answer for the talented guard as she achieved her first career double double with 10 rebounds. The Tigers turned on the afterburners in the second period, outscoring the Demons 38-13 in the period to take a 60-25 lead into the locker room at the break. Reese again secured her double double at the half with 16 points and 11 rebounds. She finished the game with 23 points and 19 boards. Jiselle Woodson was the only Demon to score in double figures for NSU, doing so off the bench, dropping in 15 points. Northwestern had no players with more than four rebounds as LSU outrebounded the Demons 56-27.. The Tiger defense did their best to stymie NSU on every front including inbound passes, at one point sending three straight inbound passes back out of bounds. LSU picked up where it left off in the third period, dropping another 29 points on the Demon’s defense while stretching their lead to 89-36 by the end of the quarter. Johnson followed up her 16 point second quarter with an 11 point third quarter. Coach Kim Mulkey would sub out the starters in the fourth quarter, but hitting the century mark was important for the Lady Tigers on the floor. LSU went through a three minute stretch without a point before Jasmine Carson sank the three point shot that allowed LSU to continue on it’s record streak of consecutive 100 point performances on a basket that provided the game’s final margin. The Tigers will take their first road trip to the Bimini, Bahamas during Thanksgiving for the Goombay Splash where they will play George Mason and UAB. LSU will kick things off in Bimini on Thanksgiving at 1 p.m. CT against George Mason on FloHoops. This LSU coverage is a 'Da Boot Sports/FanBoy' production.. As always, Thank You for your support..
