BATON ROUGE, LA- After having the series victory already secured versus the #1 Texas A&M Aggies, Jay Johnson’s Tigers looked to stay hot with a sweep on Sunday. However, two bad innings doomed LSU as they fell 14-4 to their SEC foe.

Brady Neal and the Tigers struck first in the bottom of the second inning with a 2-run homer out to right. Josh Pearson came across the plate to score after drawing a lead-off walk.

In the bottom half of the third, Josh Pearson came through with an RBI single, scoring Tommy White. That run extended the Tiger lead to 3-0, and had them in good shape early.

The fourth inning was quiet before all hell broke loose in the top of the fifth. The Aggies lapped LSU’s score in no time with a nine-run outing off of eight hits off the arm of Samuel Dutton.

Texas A&M’s Caden Sorrell had a lead-off triple before crossing the plate by way of an RBI single from Travis Chestnut. Another base hit was sent into right field before Gavin Grahovac hammered one to deep center field for a three-run shot that put the Aggies in front 4-3.

Dutton notched the Tigers’ first out of the inning with a strikeout, but a walk followed by another homerun, this time from Jackson Appel, led to a 6-3 lead for Texas A&M.

LSU and Dutton would give up three more runs before finally retiring the side. The damage had been done, and the Tigers could muster no response offensively. The score was stagnant at 9-3 heading to the ninth frame.

Texas A&M had lost the series already, but still needed to take some anger out on Alex Box Stadium. They laid the nail in the Tigers’ coffin in the final inning with another five runs. The Aggies took freshman Cam Johnson yard twice.

Kaeden Kent delivered a grand slam to right field before Jace LaViolette earned a solo homerun for their final score of the game. A&M pushed their lead to 11.

The Tigers pushed across one in the bottom half with an RBI from Paxton Kling. LSU falls to 31-18 (9-15,) but pick up an important series win against the top-ranked team in the country. Jay Johnson’s crew proved they can hang with the best of them.

LSU will host Northwestern State on Tuesday, May 7 at 6:30 pm CST to close out their nine-game homestretch.    Geaux Tigers!
