Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - LSU returned the diamond at the Box on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. 10,682 Tiger fans enjoyed watching LSU explode offensively in route to a 18-10 victory over Stony Brook. “We have a lot of guys who can do a lot of different things,” said LSU coach Jay Johnson, “and I’ll be honest, it’s difficult to make out a lineup right now, and I mean that in a good way. We have guys that are super capable, super experienced and some young players that are going to be very good here.” LSU jumped on the Seawolves early. Paxton Kling started the bottom of the 1st inning with a single and advanced to second base on a throwing error. Tommy White then stepped to the plate and singled to left field, scoring Kling for a 1-0 lead. The Tigers weren't done, as they loaded the bases for Michael Braswell III who tripled to right center field, scoring three runs. Ethan Frey then singled to bring home Braswell. 5-0 Tigers as the game headed to the 2nd inning. Javen Coleman got the start on the mound for the Tigers pitching four solid innings. The Tigers stayed hot in the 2nd inning. With two out, Steven Milam singled then stole second base. Jared Jones then picked up a RBI single, scoring Milam. Michael Braswell then singled to left field. With runners on the corners, Ethan Frey singled to score Jones. LSU continued to tee-off on Stony Brook pitching as Alex Milazzo singled up the middle to score Braswell. Paxton Kling then got hit by a pitch to load the bases for Tommy White who singled up the middle to bring home Milazzo and Frey. The LSU 2nd inning hitting clinic came to an end with the Tigers leading 10-0. Stony Brook got on the board in the top of the 3rd with a two run homer by Cam Santerre. 10-2 Tigers. LSU answered in the bottom of the inning. Milam hit a two out single, then Jared Jones launched a two run home run to left center field, putting LSU up 12-2 after three. The Tigers plated another run in the bottom of the 4th when Tommy White hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Milazzo from third base. 13-2 LSU going to the 5th inning. Michael Buckham replaced Javen Coleman to start the 5th inning and struggled. Coleman had a nice outing, Striking out six while allowing two hits, walking one batter and giving up two runs. Stony Brook began the inning with a single, then a walk, before Johnny Pilla homered to right field to chase Buckham from the game. Jay Johnson would bring in Christian Little to pitch with no outs yet in the inning. The Seawolves would then chase Little after a single, then a double to plate another run. 13-6 Tigers in the top of the 5th with still no outs. Fidel Ulloa entered the game but gave up two more runs before registering the first out of the inning. Ulloa and the Tigers were finally able to stop the Seawolves 5th inning surge. The game headed to the 6th inning with LSU leading 13-8 after Stony Brook scored six runs on five hits. LSU went to work in the bottom of the 6th. After Milazzo grounded out, Kling, White and Bingham each drew a base on balls to load the bases. Hayden Travinski got his first hit of the weekend, ripping a double to right center field, clearing the bases. Zeb Ruddell would pinch run for Travinski and advanced to third base on a wild pitch. Steven Milam then hit a sacrifice fly to score Ruddell. Heading to the 7th inning, LSU now lead, 17-8. Cam Johnson replaced Ulloa on the bump to start the 7th. Stony Brook continued to fight, plating two more runs in the top of the inning to cut the LSU lead to, 17-10. The Tigers looked to add to their lead in the bottom of the 7th, but left the bases loaded. LSU added one more run in the bottom of the 8th inning. 18-10, Tigers.... Will Hemers, DJ Primeaux, Aiden Moffett and Nic Bronzini combined to finish off the Seawolves. LSU is now 7-1 on the season and will now travel to Houston, Texas where they will play Rice on Wed.
