Weil HOUSTON, TX - The Tigers played their final game of the Astros Foundation Classic in Houston, improving their record to, 11-1 after beating Texas State, 10-5. Other then a three run 5th inning and a couple of garbage runs in the 9th by the Wildcats, LSU dominated the contest. Thatcher Hurd got the win to improve to 1-1 on the season. Little, Coleman, Primaeux and Guidry each saw time on the bump in the win. “I thought we took a good step forward this week,” Johnson said. “We have a long way to go in terms of being as good as we want to be, but we identified the things we need to do well, and if we do them well, we’ll be really, really successful.” The contest began as a pitchers duel between LSU's Thatcher Hurd and the Bobcats, Sam Hall before LSU drew first blood in the bottom of the 3rd inning, when Josh Pearson launched a solo home run to right center field. 1-0 Tigers as the game headed to the 4th. The Tigers stared the bottom of the 4th with back to back singles by Steven Milam and Jared Jones. Jake Brown then doubled to right center field scoring Milam. Michael Braswell III was walked before Paxton Kling would single to left field to score Brown and Jones. Tommy White then singled to right field scoring Braswell. Hayden Travinski stepped up next and reached safely on a fielder's choice, bringing Kling home. We headed to the 5th inning with LSU now up, 6-0. Texas State was able to score three runs in the top of the 5th. With the score, 6-1 and two runners on, a bad throwing error by Michael Braswell III allow two more runs to cross home plate. 6-3, LSU after five. Brady Neal began the bottom of the 6th inning with a one out double to left field. Travinski then doubled down the left field line to score Neal. Milam stepped up and hit a double down the right field line, scoring Travinski. The back to back to back doubles extended the Bayou Bengals lead to 8-3 as the contest moved into the 7th inning. The Tigers added a couple of more runs in the bottom of the 8th inning. After a double down the left field line by Travinski, Milam singled down the right field line to score Zeb Ruddell, who entered the game as a pinch runner for Travinski. Ashton Larson singled up the middle to score Milam from second base. LSU now led, 10-3 going to the 9th inning. The Wildcats scored two run in the top of the 9th to make the final score, 10-5. The Tigers, now 11-1 will next play Southeastern Louisiana in Hammond on Wednesday, March 6th at 6:00pm. John 14:6 - "I am the way and the truth and the life.
