Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - LSU suffered their second loss of the season, falling to Xavier (Ohio) on Sunday afternoon, 2-1 as the Musketeers' pitching staff baffled the LSU hitters throughout the day at Alex Box Stadium/Skip Bertman Field. The game began as a great pitchers duel between LSU starting pitcher Thatcher Hurd and Xavier pitcher Nick Boyd. LSU plated a run in the bottom of the 4th inning. Jared Jones hit a one out triple off of the center field wall. After a Ashton Larson ground out, Mac Bingham hit a ball to the second baseman who bobbled the ball just enough for the speedy Bingham to beat out the throw. The error allowed Jones to score. The game headed to the 5th inning with LSU up, 1-0. Xavier responded in the 5th, scoring to tie the game, 1-1. The Musketeers' run was aided by a walk, an error, and a wild pitch. Nate Ackenhausen replaced Hurd on the bump to start the 6th inning. Aedan Anderson drew a lead off walk. Anderson advanced to second on a LSU throwing error, then moved to third on a fielder's choice. Jared Cushing then singled to center field to bring Anderson home. 2-1 Musketeers after six. LSU had a tough day at the plate as the Xavier pitching staff did a fantastic job keeping the LSU bats in check. Nate Ackenhausen (2-1) was charged with the loss, as he allowed one run on two hits in 2.1 innings with one walk and no strikeouts. With the loss, LSU falls to 14-2.
