Da Boot Sports 5/30/2022 By: David Penn BATON ROUGE, LA - Today the Fighting Tigers learned that their post season journey will begin in Hattiesburg, MS. LSU will be the second seed in the Hattiesburg regional and face off against the Kennesaw State Owls on Friday night at 6:00pm CT. Host University of Southern Miss will play the Black Knights of Army at 1:00pm. The Hattiesburg regional is paired with the Coral Gables regional where Miami is hosting Ole Miss, Arizona, and Canisius. The Tigers will have a chance to host a super regional at Alex Box Stadium if they win the Hattiesburg regional and Miami fails to win the Coral Gables regional. Coach Jay Johnson is looking forward to getting a pair of Tigers back from injury with the return of Jacob Berry and Cade Doughty to the lineup. “They’re two Top 50 draft picks. (The previous LSU staff) recruited Cade here, and I’m glad that they did, he’s a great player." Johnson said. "We brought Jacob here, and he’s a great player. I feel that we’re a better team when we have those two guys back in the lineup.” Coach Johnson is also aware that LSU has never appeared in the CWS without being a host site. “I love doing things that have never been done before. Said Johnson. "The selection committee decided we’re playing on the road, we’re not changing their mind now, and I think we’re excited and ready to roll. The success we had in the SEC this season should give our team great confidence. We swept the defending national champion (Mississippi State) on the road, we swept the national runners-up (Vanderbilt) on the road. We won two out of three at Florida, which has been one of the premium programs in college baseball for the last 13, 14 years. If that doesn’t give our team confidence, I don’t know what will. This week will be all about being in the right frame of mind and playing good baseball.”
