Da Boot Sports 3/26/2024 By: Alexis Persicke BATON ROUGE, LA - On a beautiful 70 degree day at Alex Box Stadium/Skip Bertman Field, LSU defeated a very good Southeastern Louisiana team, 8-4. The Tiger defense started off strong against Southeastern Louisiana with a perfect inning for pitcher Samuel Dutton, throwing three back to back strikeouts. On offense Brady Neal singled to left field, then scored on a fielding error from the left fielder during a Tommy White single. The inning ended with LSU up, 1-0. A pitching change was made for the Tigers early into the second inning. Jay Johnson exchanged Justin Loer for Sam Dutton. He was unable to keep LSU in the lead, with SLU scoring two runs on RBI singles. 2-1 Lions. Despite this setback, the Tigers battled back in the bottom of the inning. Mac Bingham broke it open with a solo home run to left field, and his teammates followed with two hits, a single by Braswell, then a double by Milam. After a pitching change, SLU was able to turn a tough double play, which scored Braswell from third. Yet they were unable to get out of the inning before Tommy White stepped up, blasting a two run homer. The inning ended with LSU up by three, 5-2. The third was a lackluster, with nobody scoring and only one hit from the Tigers. The fourth was quite uneventful as well. LSU quickly ended the top of the fifth with another perfect inning. Southeastern made another pitching change that held the Tigers to in check to end the inning. The seventh showed some defensive changes for LSU. Kling was moved to center field, Pearson moved to right, and Bingham went to left field. LSU went to the bullpen again, bringing in Bucknam for Cam Johnson. This proved to be productive, as he quickly closed out the frame. The bottom of the seventh was another eventful inning for the Tigers. Jared Jones lead it off being hit by a pitch. Travinski responded with a two run home run. Ashton Larson then contributed a single. Kling was also hit by a pitch to load the bases with White stepping up to the plate. White barely missed a grand slam, flying out to right field on the warning track, unfortunately ending the inning. LSU increased their lead to 8-2. In the eighth Alex Milazzo was brought in to catch and hit seventh, with Jake Brown in right field batting fifth. SLU hit a home run in the top of the inning, cutting the LSU lead to 8-3. Southeastern, tightened the score to 8-4 in the top of the ninth with another solo home run for the game's final score. With the victory, LSU improves to 20-6 overall while sitting at 2-4 in the SEC. In just two days, LSU will battle Arkansas on Thursday, March 28, at 6:00 pm in Fayetteville at Baum-Walker Stadium.
