HAMMOND, LA - LSU (12-1) and Southeastern  (9-5) engaged in a duel with a dramatic 9th inning finish in Hammond with the Tigers securing the two out rally off the bats of Ethan Frey and Paxton Kling.

Steven Milam got the Tigers started in the 9th with a single and Mac Bingham drew a walk to give the LSU a pair of base runners. Ethan Frey delivered a double to score Milam and Paxton Kling, who went 0-4 before the 9th frame, delivered what proved to be the game winning double, scoring both Bingham and Frey.

Nate Ackenhausen came on in relief to close out the game and struck out all 3 Lions faced in the 9th inning to preserve the rally and earned the save.

“A tip of the cap to Southeastern, they made us earn it tonight,” said LSU coach Jay Johnson. “It was a tough game, but I’m just really proud of our guys for sticking with it. I think the depth of our team really shined tonight. We bent a little in the bullpen, but we didn’t break. “Paxton had a tough game before that last at-bat, but he didn’t let it affect him. The best hitters may go 0-for-4, but they want that fifth at-bat.”

LSU freshman pitcher Kade Anderson was electric for 5 innings, only allowing 1 run on 2 hits with 2 walks and a career best 13K Ks. Fidel Ulloa came on in relief and earned 3 Ks while giving up a run, a hit, and a walk in 2 innings. Gavin Guidry earned the W for the Tigers with a scoreless 8th inning.

SLU pitchers Dalton Aspholm and Aiden Vosburg did a stellar job of keeping the LSU hitters off balance throughout the first 7 innings. The Lions bats were able to plate a 1 run in each of the 6th, 7th, and 8th innings to carry a 3-1 lead over the defending champions into the 9th inning.

LSU will move on to their weekend series vs visiting Xavier and first pitch will be Friday night at 6:30pm in Alex Box Stadium.
