Da Boot Sports 5/31/2022 By: Terrill J. Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - The Tigers take on the Kennesaw State Owls on Friday in game two of the Hattiesburg Regional at 7:00pm. But who are these Owls that have earned a spot in the field of 64 in the NCAA baseball tournament? They are located in Kennesaw, Georgia and they are a NCAA Division I college baseball program that competes in the Athletic Sun Conference (ASUN). They began competing in Division I in 2006. This season is only the second time that the Owl's have earned a trip to the NCAA baseball tournament. The other was in 2014 when they finished 40-24, winning the Atlantic Sun Conference regular season and tournament championships. They would win the Tallahassee Regional before being eliminated by the Louisville Cardinals in the Louisville Super Regional. Kennesaw State finished 35-26 in 2022 under first year head coach Ryan Coe. "We are extremely excited," Coe said. "I've been to Southern Miss before, and it's a great atmosphere. This entire Regional is very competitive, and we are looking forward to getting started." The Owls top pitchers are #11 Jack Myers (has a record of 5-3, 65 strikeouts, 49 BB, with an ERA of 4.01)... #31 John Bezdicek (has a record of 5-1, 81 strikeouts, 31 BB, with an ERA of 3.75) and #16 Jared Rine (has a record of 4-0, 34 strikeouts, 24 BB, with an ERA of 5.31 and leads the team in saves with 7).... At the plate KSU is lead by #13 Josh Hatcher (.386, 55 RBIs, 13 HRs)... #25 Donovan Cash (.356, 57 RBIs, 10 HRs)... and #4 Cash Young (.296, 58 RBIs, 17 HRs)... The Owls have a team batting average of .301 and have hit 67 home runs this season. If whoever takes the mound on Friday against the Owls can pitch deep into the game, combined with the return of Jacob Berry and Cade Doughty back into the lineup, the Tigers should come out on top in this one and move into the winners bracket. PREDICTION: LSU 12 - KSU 4 GEAUX TIGERS!
