Da Boot Sports 3/25/2023 By: Terrill J. Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - We were able to attend football practice on Saturday morning for about 20-25 minutes while the team worked on individual drills. Not much to report. The quarterbacks threw to running backs Trey Holly and Noah Cain who were stationary targets. The linebackers and secondary went through their everyday individual drills We got to see some special teams work this morning as the field goal unit was practicing breaking huddle, lining up and kicking field goals and extra points. The Tigers will next practice on Thursday morning with no media access allowed. Saturday, April 1st will be the next practice that we will be able to attend. Below we have photos and a video from practice as well as the post practice players interview session for your viewing.. GEAUX TIGERS!!!! Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - The LSU football team returned to the practice field for the first time after a week off for spring break. Tuesday morning the media was able to watch 20 minutes of basic individual drills before moving inside for Brian Kelly's press conference at the conclusion of practice. The quarterbacks basically did regular passing drills, working on foot work while throwing to stationary targets. Jayden Daniels is looking smooth and looks to have accepted the leadership role as he was relaxed and much more vocal than we have seen him in the past. Garrett Nussmeier looks good and is right there will Daniels, while freshman Rickie Collins is looking good during drills but needs to polish up some of his throws. The running back position still has senior Noah Cain and freshman Trey Holly as the only two scholarship players at the position for spring. With Josh Williams and Armoni Goodwin both recovering from knee surgery and John Emery temporarily not participating in football until he improves his academics, the position is on the thin side. You can expect to see running backs Corey Norman, Nick Demas, Malachi Lane, Isaiah Mosley and Trey Holly receive several snaps in the spring game on April 22nd. The receivers are looking solid with Malik Nabors and Brian Thomas leading the way with freshman Jalen Brown out of Miami, Florida looking very impressive so far. The offensive line is also a thin position during spring with only eight healthy lineman. The lack of depth has forced the coaching staff to move a couple of defensive lineman to the other side of the ball so they can get quality reps during practice. Jacobian Guillory and Paris Shand (transfer from Arizona) look to be the top two defensive tackles so far. Sai'vion Jones and senior Ovie Oghoufo (transfer from Texas) look to be working with the first unit on the edges for now. Harold Perkins is still as impressive as ever, while Oregon State transfer Omar Speights looks to be the real deal and should compliment Perkins nicely at linebacker. The secondary is loaded with talent and deep. Kelly stated that at some point they will look to move certain players around, expecting some to play multiple positions.
