By: Terrill J. Weil Da Boot Sports! LSU man handles Aggies, 50-7 The Tigers were going to make sure that they were prepared for the Texas A&M Aggies Saturday night in Death Valley. With last season's 74-72, seven overtime loss in College Station burned into their heads, LSU honored their 15 seniors by scorching Texas A&M, 50-7, and finishing the regular season with a perfect 12-0 record. The Tigers took the games opening kickoff and flexed their muscles immediately. It only took 6 plays, 75 yards, & 2:10 off of the clock, ending with Clyde Edwards-Helaire punching it in from five yards out, 7-0. It only took two minutes for the defense to get the ball back for LSU's second possession. This time, the Tigers went 80 yards, taking 11 plays and scored as Justin Jefferson grabbed a 12 yard TD pass from Joe Burrow. Cade York put the PAT through, 14-0 Tigers! The Aggies picked up a 1st down and it was looking like they may mount a drive. K'Lavon Chaisson ended any hope of that, sacking Kellen Mond for a ten yard loss on 3rd down. On the next play, A&M punter, Braden Mann, placed a nice punt deep into LSU territory, with it being downed at 11 yard line. In a one minute, 20 second flash, LSU increased their lead when Burrow hit JaMarr Chase flying down the middle of the field behind the secondary for a 78 yard touchdown. 91 yards in three plays, 21-0, LSU. Texas A&M would go three and out again, and it was K'Lavon Chaisson sacking Mond on 3rd down to also kill this drive, as the quarter came to a close. The second quarter began like the first, with LSU taking the ball and driving right down the field for a score. This time they went 55 yards in 11 plays. Tyrion Davis-Price took it in from 4 yards out. With 10:46 to go in the quarter, the Tigers were up 28-0. The LSU defense continued to play great, as they forced the Aggies into another three and out. Burrow drove the Tigers 53 yards in 9 plays, were the drive stalled. Cade York came in a drilled a 51 yard field goal, to conclude the scoring in the 1st half. LSU lead 31-0 at the break. Texas A&M took the ball to start the 3rd quarter. After running five plays, they were forced to punt. The Aggies retained possession after LSU downed a punt at the A&M 13 yard line. On 1st and 10, Kellen Mond threw his pass right into Grant Delpit's arms giving LSU the football at the 40 yard line in Aggie territory. LSU had to settle for a Cade York 50 yard field goal, putting the Tigers up 34-0. Finally, Texas A&M put together a scoring drive, going 75 yards in 6 plays. Isaiah Spiller took it in from 1 yard out, and the Aggies were on the board, 34-7, with 4:13 to go in the 3rd quarter. The quarter would end with the score LSU 41, A&M 7, as Joe Burrow hit JaMarr Chase for a 18 yard touchdown. That scoring toss was Burrow's 44th of the season, tying the SEC record for most in a season. Texas A&M continued a drive from the final seconds of the 3rd quarter, as they converted a big 1st down on a 4th and 6. Punter, Braden Mannran ran for 15 yards up the middle on a fake punt that fooled the Tigers special teams badly. However, the LSU defense came up with another big turnover as Jacoby Stevens intercepted Mond in the back of the end zone, killing a 12 play drive. From there, LSU called time out on 2nd down to take Joe Burrow out of the game to a standing ovation. Miles Brennan stepped in and four plays later hit Racey McMath streaking down the far sidelines for a 58 yard touchdown. With 10:36 to go in the game, the Tigers held a 48-7 advantage. Kary Vincent Jr. ended A&M's next possession as he intercepted Mond at the LSU 46 yard line. The LSU defense would tack on a safety late in the game. Joe Burrow, playing his final game in Tiger Stadium, finished the game, 23/32, 352 yards passing, 3 TDs. Edwards-Helaire again led the team in rushing, with 87 yards on 18 carries. JaMarr Chase once again was the leading receiver of the WR group, catching 7 ball for 197 yards and 2 TDs. McMath had 67 yards on 2 grabs and a score. Justin Jefferson finished with 55 yards on 6 receptions. The LSU defense played exceptional all game long, holding Texas A&M to only 169 total yards of offense. They forced three turnovers and sacked Kellen Mond six times. What a great way to finish off a special regular season at home in Tiger Stadium. But, LSU has yet to reach their main goal of the season. That road continues next Saturday in Atlanta, as LSU will battle the Georgia Bulldogs for the SEC Championship and secure a spot in the playoffs. 11/29/2019
By: Terrill J. Weil Da Boot Sports! Tigers Eyeing 12-0 Our LSU Fighting Tigers will look to go 12-0 for the first time since 2011. They will host the Aggies of Texas A&M who will come into Death Valley tomorrow night with hopes & dreams of upsetting the #2 ranked team in Nation. A&M (7-4), is coming off of a 19-13 hard fought loss to Georgia last weekend. While LSU had their way with the Hogs, blasting Arkansas, 56-20. LSU will honor 15 Seniors Saturday night. "Those guys have bled Purple & Gold, they've worked their tail off. They're great young men., great leadership." said Orgeron. "The last time in Tiger Stadium. I know it's going to be an emotional night for those guys. It's always a great send-off, a first-class deal, and our guys are looking forward to it." The Tigers lost to Texas A&M, 74-72, in seven overtimes last season. "There is no question." said Coach O. "It's going to be on. I'll never forget that game last year. We're going to be ready." LSU is looking to head to Atlanta next week with a perfect record, and the Aggies are the only thing standing in the way of that. Texas A&M quarterback, Kellen Mond comes into the contest needing 290 yards passing to hit 3,000. He has passed for 19 touchdowns and has added 392 yards on the ground with seven rushing scores. Isaiah Spiller, Aggies RB, leads the team in rushing with 803 yards on the ground and 8 TDs so far this season. The LSU defense will have another week to prove to a lot of so called experts that the Tigers aren't as bad as advertised on that side of the ball. The Aggies run a very multiple, pro style type of offense, averaging 32.1 points a game, which gave the Tigers problems last year. LSU will need to play solid defense, avoid missing tackles, create turnovers, and not have any emotional, silly penalties at key times during the game. The A&M defense has played well this season. They have a very talented defensive line, big, athletic LBers, and a secondary that makes plays. However, the Aggies defense hasn't faced anything like Joe Burrow, and the LSU offensive attack. LSU is on a 12 game winning streak at home dating back to last season. Texas A&M's 4 losses have all come to teams ranked in the top 10. Clemson, Auburn, Alabama, & Georgia. LSU will be motivated after the CFP Committee bumped them down to #2 this week, as well from last season's seven OT loss burning in their minds. But the Tigers need to stay focused on the task at hand by not allowing the emotions of Senior night and 'revenge' effect their performance. I believe Jimbo Fisher will have his team prepared to play. I see the LSU offense taking command late in the game and the Tiger defense standing tall when needed too, to win this one and preserve a perfect regular season. MY PREDICTION: LSU 38, Texas A&M 27 11/25/2019
By: Terrill J. Weil Da Boot Sports! The new CFP ranking were released on Tuesday with a change to the top spot. The Committee decided to move the Buckeyes of Ohio State into the #1 spot, leaping LSU. Clemson stayed put at three, While Georgia remained in the 4th spot, after defeating Texas A&M, 19-13. Rob Mullens of the CFP selection committee said Ohio State's defense makes them the more complete team. "Ohio State's been a complete team, and that win over Penn State was their third win against that we currently have ranked in the top 19," Mullens said. "Ohio State's been really good on both sides of the ball." "They're obviously both very good on the offensive side. This week the committee felt that that win over Penn State again solidified that Ohio State's a little better on the defensive side of the ball." The final CFP rankings , that will determine the field for the playoff, as well as reveal the New Year's Six teams is December 8. If both LSU and Ohio State win out, will there be another change at the top? LSU will host Texas A&M (7-4), while the Buckeyes travel to Ann Arbor to face (9-2) Michigan. 11/23/2019
By: Terrill J. Weil Da Boot Sports! LSU: 2019 SEC West Champs LSU blasted Arkansas in Tiger Stadium tonight 56-20 to run their record to 11-0 and clinch the SEC Western Division. The Tigers wasted no time pouncing on the Hogs as they took the opening kickoff and quickly went 75 yards in six plays, scoring on a 37 yd pass from Joe Burrow to WR - Ja'Marr Chase. After a LSU punt, Arkansas got on the board with a 24 yd field goal after driving 49 yards in seven plays. 7-3, Tigers with 3:39 to go in the quarter. LSU continued to sputter on offense to end the 1st. quarter. Arkansas took possession of the ball to start the 2nd quarter, driving into LSU territory after K.J. Jefferson completed a screen pass to Rakeem Boyd, who rumbled 29 yards to the Tigers 38 yd line. The Tiger defense tightened up to force a field goal attempt that Razorbacks kicker, Conner Limpert pushed through to cut the lead to 7-6 with 9:43 to go in the half. LSU answered quickly as usual, traveling 75 yards on 6 plays, with Tyrion Davis-Price punching it in for the score from 2 yards out. Big plays on the drive was a nice 30 yard catch and run by Thad Moss and Ja'Marr Chase drawing a pass interference call in the end zone that placed the ball 1st and goal at the 2. The Tiger defense forced another Arkansas punt and again struck quickly going 62 yards on only 5 plays, capped off with a beautiful 27 yd touchdown run by Clyde Edwards-Helaire making the score 21-6 with 3:17 to go in the 1st half. LSU started their next possession on their 10 yd line with only 1:51 left in the half. Once again, Joe Burrow and the offense made it look quick and easy, taking 9 plays to go 90 yards, ending with Burrow finding Justin Jefferson from 10 yards out for the score. Both teams went to the locker room with the score, LSU 28, Arkansas 6.. Joe Burrow was 20/25, 246 yards passing, 2 TDs and the Tigers piled up a total of 309 yards in the 1st half. The LSU defense held Arkansas to only 100 total yards in the opening 30 minutes. Arkansas took the opening kick off of the 2nd half and went 48 yards on 6 plays before missing a 45 yd field goal. The Tigers took over and began to drive, but turned it over to the Razorbacks when Ja'Marr Chase fumbled while fighting for extra yards on a 18 yd catch and run. The Tiger defense forced a punt to regain possession. This is when the blowout really begins. 2 plays, 85 yards, in 43 seconds is all it took as Joe Burrow hit Ja'Marr Chase on a 50 yard scoring pass. The Tiger defense got the ball back for Heisman Trophy Candidate Joe Burrow. This time LSU took over on the Arkansas 26 yard line after a 15 yard penalty against the Hogs for kick catching interference. One play is all it took, as Clyde Edwards-Helaire scored on a 26 yard burst, putting the Tigers up, 42-6. This is where Burrows night ended as Miles Brennan took over on the Tigers next offensive possession. On Brennan's first snap of the drive, he turned and handed it off to Mr. Edwards-Helaire, who broke to the outside, turned it up field and out-raced the Arkansas defense 89 yards for third score of the game. The score stood at 48-6 at the end of the 3rd quarter. To start the 4th quarter, LSU had the ball on the Arkansas 39 yard line and it was 3rd and 1. Freshman running back John Emery took it into the North end zone for the score. The 39 yard touchdown run capped a 5 play, 67 yard drive, to run the score to 56-6 with 14:27 still to go in the contest. Arkansas would score 14 more meaningless points to end the game with a 56-20 Victory for LSU! Joe Burrow finished the night, 23/28, 347 yds passing, 3 TDs, & 24 yds rushing. Clyde Edwards-Helaire totaled 188 rushing yards on only 6 carries, & 3 TDs. That's an average of 31.3.. He also had 65 yds on seven catches. Ja'Marr Chase had another huge night catching 6 balls for 144 yds & 2 scores.,, The Tigers finished the night with 612 total yards and a SEC West Division Championship! The LSU defense held the Razorback to 304 total yards, (190 passing/114 rushing).. LSU also held Razorback running back Rakeem Boyd to just 33 yards on 13 carries. Boyd had rushed for over 100 yards in each of Arkansas last three games. Jacob Phillips had a great game as he posted 12 total tackles on the night. JaCoby Stevens had a monster performance, as he had 8 total tackles. Four of them for a loss, and added 3 huge sacks. Freshman Safety Maurice Hampton did a solid job filling in for the injured Grant Delpit. With the dominating offensive performance, the Tigers have become the first team in SEC history to have a 4,000 yard passer, a 1,000 yard rusher, and two 1,000 yard receivers in a season. Next weekend the #1 ranked Tigers will host Texas A&M (7-4), who dropped a close game to Georgia, 19-13 in Athens, Ga earlier today. So now the 2019 SEC Championship game in Atlanta is all set. As our LSU Fighting Tigers will take on the Georgia Bulldogs on December 7th. 11/21/2019
By: Terrill J. Weil Da Boot Sports! Battle for the Boot! It's LSU hosting Arkansas for the annual Battle for the Boot. The Tigers, (10-0), look to make it four in a row against the Razorbacks, (2-8, 0-6 SEC), losers of their last seven games. When the game kicks off at 6pm in Tiger Stadium tomorrow night, things could get very ugly, real quick for the Hogs, in what has already been a dismal season. The LSU offense should have their way with Arkansas' defense, as they will surely continue to pile up yards and points at will. Maybe even break another LSU record or two. Coach O, would love to build a large enough lead in the first half so he can pull some starters to rest and avoid any injuries with a improved Texas A&M team next on the schedule. After being embarrassed by the Ole Miss running attack last week in Oxford, I look for the Tigers to bounce back nicely on defense. With the offense hopefully putting this one away early, the defense will show everyone that they are not as bad as some think. Junior safety Grant Delpit, who has been playing with an injured ankle the last couple of weeks will sit this one out for a much needed break. Maurice Hampton will start in Delpit's spot. Senior Linebacker, Michael Divinity returned to the team this week after leaving for personal reasons right before the Alabama game. However he is still not eligible to play as of yet. The offensive line will start a different lineup again this week, as Austin Deculus will apparently sit out this one. Our #1 ranked Fighting Tigers will clinch the SEC West Title for the first time since 2011, by cruising to an easy victory in this one. MY PREDICTION: LSU 56, Arkansas 10 11/16/2020
By: Terrill J. Weil Da Boot Sports! #1 LSU takes down LandSharks, 58-37 Okay, Okay, Okay... I was a little off on my game prediction. I felt Ole Miss would play our Tigers tough in the 1st quarter or so, then the mighty LSU offense would pull away while the defense shuts down the Rebels' SEC leading rushing attack. Well, can you say track meet? Two totally different styles of offensive attacks. The #1 team in the country, LSU (10-0), avoid a let down and come away with a win after last weeks 46-41 emotional victory over Bama. LSU put up 58 points, 714 total yards of offense, (489 passing, 225 rushing). Ole Miss (4-7), scored 37 points, 614 total yards of offense, (402 rushing, 212 passing).. It looked like the Tigers would cruise to an easy win after dominating the first half, taking a 31-7 lead into the locker room. Ole Miss received the second half kickoff and went 75 yds in two plays, scoring on a John Rhys Plumlee 46 yard touchdown sprint. Plumlee, a true freshman, rushed for 212 yards and 4 touchdowns. His scoring plays came on runs of 5, 46, 60, and 35 yds. LSU's defense seemed confused and out of position through out most of the 2nd half. The Tigers continue to not tackle well and seem to sleep walk through the 3rd quarter while they struggle to make adjustment. The defense did however make the plays needed late in the game to help secure the win. The explosive Tiger offense continues to roll. Joe Burrow was 32/42, 489 yds, 5 touchdowns, 2 INTS, while breaking records for most completions in a row, (17) and breaking the single season passing record set by Rohan Davey in 2001. Both Justin Jefferson and Ja'Marr Chase both eclipsed 1,000 yards on the season. That's only the 3rd duo in SEC history to achieve this milestone. Chase had 8 catches for 227 yards and 3 scores, while Jefferson caught 9 balls for 112 yards and 2 touchdowns. The LSU running game was also in full swing as Clyde Edwards-Helaire rushed for 172 yards on 23 carries and a score. Next weekend the Tigers will host (2-8) Arkansas in Tiger Stadium as they look to clinch the SEC West with a victory. By: Terrill J. Weil Da Boot Sports! I wouldn't be surprised if this game was close early. The Rebels have a rare opportunity to host the nation's #1 ranked team. But playing inspired football will only carry you so far when you're matched up against a team with superior talent and coaching like LSU. The Tigers are sky high after coming off of one of their biggest victories in school history, downing Alabama in Tuscalooser, 46-41 last week. Ole Miss (4-6, 2-4 in SEC), Should be no problem for the LSU explosive offense, lead by Heisman Trophy candidate Joe Burrow. The Rebels defense ranks 26th against the rush, but a dismal 118th in the country against the pass. Burrow will continue to add to his rich Heisman resume as he attacks through the air. LSU has the nations second best passing attack averaging 379 yard per game and the 4th best overall offense, averaging 538 YPG. Burrow leads the SEC in TD passes, 33. Passing yards, 3,198. A 79% comp. percentage, and a QB rating of 202.5 .... There should be no problem distributing the ball to Justin Jefferson, Terrace Marshall Jr., Ja'Marr Chase, and TE, Thad Moss. Expect RB, Clyde Edwards-Helaire to have his typical performance, as the Tigers avaerage 159 rushing yards per game in their pass happy offense. When the Tigers' defense takes the field they will face a Ole Miss offense that lives by a big play rushing attack and dies with the inability the throw the football. If LSU can limit the big plays by Freshman QB John Rhys Plumlee and the running game, it will be a long night for the Rebels. Overall I see a LSU blowout victory. Simply too much Joe Burrow for the LandSharks to handle and not enough of a blanced attack for the Rebels. It will get out of hand quickly in the second half. PREDICTION: LSU 48, Ole Miss 20. |
