Da Boot Sports 3/27/2024 By: Jason Watson Jr. BATON ROUGE, LA- The LSU football program held their 2024 Pro Day at the indoor practice facility on Wednesday afternoon. The annual event had LSU’s top players showcase their skill sets and elite talents in front of a record number of NFL personnel as well as over 125 credentialed media members. The star-studded LSU draft hopefuls were led by projected first-round picks: quarterback Jayden Daniels and wide receivers Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr. A number of high-profile scouts, coaches, and front office officials were on site to see what the players had to offer. Some notable names in attendance include: Brian Daboll (Head Coach- New York Giants,) Dan Quinn (Head Coach- Washington Commanders,) Dennis Allen (Head Coach- New Orleans Saints,) Jerod Mayo (Head Coach- New England Patriots,) and many others representatives from all 32 NFL teams. Malik Nabers stole the show and was the highlight on many takes as he showed his capabilities in numerous individual drills as well as earning high marks in measurables. Nabers finished his day with a 42” vertical jump, 10’9” broad jump, 4.35 40-yard dash, and 15 reps on the bench press. The projected WR1 showed off his freak athleticism before even running his first route, catching passes from Daniels. LSU’s other participants in Pro Day were: Maason Smith (DL), Omar Speights (LB), Ovie Ogoufo (DL), John Emery Jr. (RB), Andre Sam (DB), Mekhi Wingo (DL), Jay Bramblett (P), Noah Cain (RB), Charles Turner III (OL), Gregory Clayton Jr. (WR), Jordan Jefferson (DL). Good luck to all of these players and their families with the rapidly-approaching NFL Draft. Geaux Tigers! John 14:6 - "I am the way and the truth and the life. Da Boot Sports 3/26/2024 By: Terrill J. Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - LSU returned to the practice field on Tuesday morning for day 8 of spring camp. Once again we were able to view 20 minutes of team and individual drills. The Tigers practiced indoors after the heavy rains fell overnight. After practice a few players were available to talk to the media. Video footage of their press conference is posted below for your viewing. Not much to report from today's practice. It's same story, different day watching the way several players have been practicing. No big surprises or different standouts. Same guys at the same positions, looking the same as reported last practice. Next media practice will be on Tuesday, April 2nd. GEAUX TIGERS!!!! John 14:6 - "I am the way and the truth and the life. Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - The Tigers practiced outdoors on Saturday morning as they continue to improve, gel and prepare for the 2024 season. They worked on individual and full team drills. with some 11 on 11 battles. The buzz on the backup quarterback competition continues as Brian Kelly hopes to settle on his #2 at some point soon. Look forward to a break out season by Kyren Lacy. He was joined by Chris Hilton Jr. and Aaron Anderson, working with the first unit on offense. Position battles continue to heat up as the Tigers work their way through the spring camp which will culminate with the spring game in Tiger Stadium on Saturday, April 13th. TBD. After the disaster last season that was the defense, which no doubt cost LSU a possible national championship run, everyone has high hopes for drastic improvement on that side of the ball. New defensive coordinator Blake Baker has brought energy to the defensive unit. The big buzz is now on a new position that he calls the "Star"... Major Burns has been working in the 'Star' spot which looks to be a rover type position. “The star gives you a lot more versatility in your defensive structure,” Kelly said. “A guy that can play man coverage, a guy that can blitz, a guy that can play zone coverage, a really good tackler, athletic in space. Also a guy that’s rugged enough that if you put a tight end he can handle himself at the line of scrimmage.” On Saturday Ashton Stamps and Javien Toviano continue to work with the first unit at cornerback. Jardin Gilbert, who transferred to Baton Rouge from Texas A&M and Sage Ryan are the first unit safeties at the moment. Ryan was everywhere on Saturday, making several big plays, including a pick six. It was great to see Emery Jones return to practice on Saturday. Video of Brian Kelly's post practice press conference is below.... John 14:6 - "I am the way and the truth and the life. Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - LSU returned to the practice field for practice five of spring camp. It was the second time the media was allowed to attend for a 20 minute viewing session. Practice once again took place in the indoor facility. As expected Garrett Nussmeier ran the first unit offense looking strong and accurate. The battle for the number two quarterback position seems to be heating up between AJ Swann and Rickie Collins. Both are competing hard and showing their talents well. Kyren Lacy, Chris Hilton Jr. and Kyle Parker were the first unit wide outs. Lacy looks to be Nussmeier's favorite target so far. Josh Williams ran with the first unit while Kaleb Jackson took snaps with the second. They are both LSU's top backs and only scholarship running backs. The position is running on the thin side with experience for spring camp. Starting right tackle Emery Jones was MIA at practice as Tyree Adams stepped in to replace him. Left tackle Will Campbell, left guard Garrett Dellinger, center DJ Chester and right guard Miles Frazier joined Adams on the first unit offensive line. Mason Taylor was the starter at tight end, with Mac Markway ran with the second unit. No surprise that Harold Perkins and Greg Penn are taking snaps as first unit linebackers. The talented Weeks brothers, West and Whit are taking snaps with the second team. We are all expecting improvement in the secondary. Ashton Stamps and Javien Toviano are taking snaps as the starting cornerbacks. Jeremiah Hughes, JK Johnson and Jyaire Brown are getting a good look at the corner position. Jardin Gilbert is taking first team snaps at safety. Sage Ryan will once again be a huge part of the secondary, no doubt about that. The defensive line looks to be an early concern, lacking depth. This unit will be a work in progress. LSU made a few players available to the media after practice. Video footage is below..... John 14:6 - "I am the way and the truth and the life. Similar to the 2024 SEC football schedule, in 2025 teams will play eight league games plus one required opponent from the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 or major independent. SEC schools will play the same league opponents in 2025 that they are scheduled to face in 2024. LSU will host Arkansas, Florida, South Carolina and Texas A&M in Tiger Stadium in 2025 and will travel to face Alabama, Ole Miss, Oklahoma and Vanderbilt. LSU’s non-conference games in 2025 has the Tigers traveling to face Clemson on August 30 followed by home games against Louisiana Tech on September 6 and Western Kentucky on November 22. “Continuing with our current format for the 2025 season provides additional time to understand the impact of the changes happening around us as we determine the appropriate long-term plan for SEC football scheduling,” said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey. The full schedule of dates of games for the 2025 football season will be announced at a later time. The 2025 schedule format was approved by a vote of the SEC Presidents and Chancellors last week following a recommendation from the league’s Athletics Directors. The 2025 season will be the second year that the SEC Championship Game will feature the top two teams in the 16-team Conference standings at the end of the regular season. Beginning with the 2024 season, the SEC will eliminate divisional standings. John 14:6 - "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - The Tigers returned to practice early Thursday morning in their indoor practice facility. It was the first spring practice open to the media. We were able to view 20 minutes of some position and individual drills. Practice was crisp and fast paced as always. The quarterbacks look sharpe, especially Garrett Nussmeier who is expected to lead the offense in 2024. Rickie Collins, who took snaps with the second team looks to have improved on his accuracy and showed flashes of his mobility. Newcomer AJ Swann led the third team and it was great to see Colin Hurley on the field wearing #16. The running backs showed speed and quickness during their position drills. Kaleb Jackson and Josh Williams will lead this group into the season. Trey Holly was absent due to his legal situation. The wide outs worked on making cuts and catching the ball out of the break. Kyren Lacy and Chris Hilton look to be the leaders of this squad. The offensive line focussed of foot work and technique.. We spotted Will Campbell wearing #7 today at practice, representing his team honor. Campbell looks fast, agile and menacing. He's a hell of a specimen. I apologize for no defensive information. I'll focus on the defensive side of the ball on Thursday, March 21st, which is the next practice open to the media. Brian Kelly's post practice press conference, practice video and photos are below.
