BATON ROUGE, LA: Sources have confirmed that on Monday starting left offensive tackle Dare Rosenthal will enter the transfer portal.  It's been reported that Rosenthal has decided to leave the team after violating teams rules.

This is a huge blow to a LSU team looking to bounce back from a 5-5 record in 2020. The offensive line was expected to be the strength of the offense in 2021.  With recent worries about the development of the second line unit, Coach Orgeron released O-Line coach James Cregg and went out to find a upgrade. That he did, as he would hire Brad Davis who is a Louisiana native, who was currently coaching the offensive line at Arkansas.

Rosenthal was a four star defensive line prospect in the Class of 2018 out of Ferriday High School. He moved to the offensive side of the ball during his first year at LSU while taking a redshirt during his freshmen year.   The 6'-7" 327 lbs junior has had a history of off the field problems while at LSU.

The Tigers will now need to fill the void that his departure has opened up on a very good unit. But like Coach O always says... "Next man up!"

BATON ROUGE – A trio of LSU players, including two-time All-America cornerback Derek Stingley, Jr., have been named to the Walter Camp Preseason All-America Team, the organization announced on Thursday.

Stingley and record-setting placekicker Cade York were selected first team preseason All-America by Walter Camp, while sophomore cornerback Eli Ricks earned a spot on the second team.

Stingley, a Baton Rouge native who prepped at the Dunham School, goes into the 2021 season looking to join Tommy Casanova as the only three-time first team All-Americas in LSU history. Casanova, who is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, earned first team All-America honors as a defensive back from 1969-71.

Stingley, who started all 15 games as a true freshman during LSU’s 2019 national championship season, earned consensus All-America honors that year followed by first team All-America recognition from the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) in 2020. Stingley was also voted as the SEC Newcomer of the Year in 2019 after leading the league in interceptions with six, including two in the SEC Championships Game win over Georgia.

In two years with the Tigers, Stingley has recorded 65 tackles, six interceptions and 26 pass breakups. He’s also recovered two fumbles and forced another.

York, a junior from McKinney, Texas, kicked his way into the LSU record books last year when he delivered a 57-yard game-winning field goal with 23 seconds left in the 37-34 victory over sixth-ranked Florida in Gainesville.

York earned second team All-America honors last year from the Associated Press and the Football Writers Association of America after converting 18-of-21 field goals during the Covid-shortened season. In two years at LSU, York ranks No. 5 in LSU history in career field goals (39) and he’s the school-record holder for most 50-yard field goals in a career (10) and a season (6 in 2020).

Ricks, a Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., native, made an immediate impact during his rookie season a year ago as he led the Tigers and ranked second in the SEC in interceptions with four. Ricks returned two of his interceptions for touchdowns – the first in a win over South Carolina and the other coming in the upset of sixth-ranked Florida.

Ricks earned Freshman All-America honors and was named third team All-America by the Associated Press. He was also named to the SEC All-Freshman Team.

Ed Orgeron wasted little time replacing James Cregg, hiring Brad Davis away from SEC West rival Arkansas. Davis is a Baton Rouge native announced over Twitter about his return to his hometown..

"I am grateful for the time I spent in Fayetteville and the relationships that were made," he wrote. "I am thankful for the coaching staff and the players who worked tirelessly to return the program back to the one the fans could be proud of. I'm most grateful for Coach [Sam] Pittman not only believing in me, but pouring into me for more than half my life. I am disappointed to not finish the journey we began, but I am excited to return home to my native city and enjoy my parents and siblings. Arkansas is in great hands under Coach Pittman's watch. He has instilled toughness, desire and pride in being a Hog!
I am sorry for those who I've let down, but hope those who truly know me will be happy for my opportunity to return home. I am excited to begin this new journey."

Davis is considered by many to be an upgrade over James Cregg who was with the Tigers since 2018, not only in player development, but also in recruiting.  Details are still being worked out on Davis' contract...

BATON ROUGE:  Looks like Arik Gilbert has finally decided to stay put near his home. The Marietta, Ga. product signed with LSU in 2020 before opting out late in the season claiming to be homesick as his excuse.  After the end of the season he entered the evil NCAA transfer portal. He finished the 2020 season with 35 catches for 368 yards and two touchdowns.

Gilbert would commit to Florida on January 31st, 2021 before changing his mind on the Gators a month later.

Rumors began to surface that there was a chance Gilbert could return to Baton Rouge after holding talks with LSU Head Coach Ed Orgeron, but nothing ever materialized.
