The score was Taylor's first-ever touchdown as an LSU Tiger. 24-20 Tigers. The growth and cohesiveness of the LSU offensive line were evident as the Tigers began to dominate the contest. They continued to provide Jayden Daniels with a lot of time in the pocket to find open receivers. It looked like Ole Miss would answer the LSU score as the Rebels drove the length of the field to the LSU 10-yard line, but the LSU defense turned them away with an intercepted by Joe Foucha in the end zone. LSU took over at the 20-yard line. The momentum had clearly swung in the Tigers favor as they provided the fans with big plays and first downs, driving down the field at will as their drive went into the 4th quarter with LSU leading, 24-20. Calling Baton Rouge by Garth Brooks led the fans into the 4th quarter and Tiger Stadium was electric as the sun went down over Baton Rouge. Capitalizing on the momentum, the Tigers extended their lead to 31-20 on a Jayden Daniels 11-yard touchdown run. As the LSU defense continued to shut down the Rebels' offensive attack, the Tigers offense showed no semblance of being in a rebuilding year as they continued to drive the ball at will against the 7th-ranked team in the nation. Jayden Daniels finished off LSU's next drive as he knifed his way through the Rebels defense for a 17-yard touchdown run. His 3rd rushing touchdown on the day. LSU now lead the Rebels, 38-20. God Bless) Da Boot Sports 10/15/2022 By: Terrill J. Weil GAINESVILLE, FL - LSU traveled to Gainesville looking to rebound from last weekend's 40-13 blowout loss to Tennessee in Tiger Stadium and that's exactly what the Tigers did, drowning Florida in the Swamp, 45-35 on Saturday night. Jayden Daniels lead LSU to the victory with a career high game finishing 23-32, 349 yards passing, 3 touchdown passes while rushing for 44 yards and 3 rushing touchdowns. Daniels is the first player in LSU football history to pass for 3 touchdowns and rush for 3 touchdowns in a game decided in regulation. Joe Burrow did it in the seven overtime game against Texas A&M in 2018. The LSU wide receivers had a great night as Kayshon Boutte had his best outing of the season with six catches for 115 yards. Malik Nabers finished with 48 yards on four grabs. Jaray Jenkins added 67 yards on two catches and a touchdown. Brian Thomas had two catches for 31 yards and a touchdown grab. Josh Williams lead the team in rushing with 106 yards on 14 carries, while John Emery Jr. rushed for 31 yards on eight carries, added 24 yards receiving on three grabs with a touchdown catch. The offensive line played their best game of the season, giving Jayden Daniels time to throw the ball as well as dominating the line of scrimmage most of the night to help the Tigers rush for 179 yards on the night. After a slow start, the defense slowed down the Florida offensive attack allowing the offense to build a 21 point lead heading into the 4th quarter. The Gators were able to score 14 unanswered points in the 4th quarter to pull to within seven points, but the defense made the plays needed late in the contest to seal the win. Micah Baskerville had a fantastic game finishing with 11 tackles and a sack. Greg Penn finished with six tackles, while Harold Perkins totaled five tackles on the night. Hats off to the LSU secondary for playing a great ball game after allowing the quick 51 yard touchdown pass on Florida's first offensive possession of the night. Brian Kelly is the first LSU coach to win in Jordan Hare Stadium and in The Swamp in the same season, EVER.. Florida received the opening kickoff, returning it 47 yards to their own 48 to start their first drive. Then in the blink of an eye they were on the scoreboard. On second and nine, Anthony Richardson hit Justin Shorter in stride for a 51 yard touchdown. The point after gave the Gators a quick 7-0 lead with 14:01 left on the clock. LSU responded by driving 75 yards on 12 plays, ending with Jayden Daniels hitting John Emery Jr. out of the backfield for a seven yard touchdown to even things up at 7-7 with 7:46 left in the opening quarter. The big play of the drive came on a 3rd and eight when Daniels scrambling away from pressure and found Kayshon Boutte down the field for a 40 yard gain and a 1st down at the Florida 33 yard line. Like two heavy weight boxers going toe to toe and blow for blow, the Gators answered right back, easily driving 75 yards in ten plays. Montrell Johnson finished off the possession with a 39 yard touchdown run up the far sidelines putting Florida back up 14-7 with 2:00 minutes remaining in the quarter. LSU's offense took their next possession into the 2nd quarter, once again finding the end zone to even the score up at 14-14 when Daniels scampered in from one yard out. The score capped off a 12 play, 73 yard drive. The Tigers defense would be the first to earn a stop, holding Florida to a three and out, forcing a punt. But low and behold, the special team nightmares continued for LSU as Jack Bech muffed the punt and the Gators recovered at the LSU 13 yard line. Florida graciously accepted their gift touchdown as they punched it in from three yards out as Montrell Johnson scored his second touchdown of the night. 21-14 Gators with 8:13 left in the first half. The shoot out continued as LSU responded to the turnover and Gators score by again driving 75 yards in seven plays. Jayden Daniels found Brian Thomas Jr. who made an outstanding catch in the end zone for a 24 yard touchdown. The score evened things up at 21-21 with 5:55 left in the first half. Matt House and the LSU defense made the necessary adjustments to finally start slowing Anthony Richardson and the Florida offense down as the Gators once again went three and out. The LSU offense remained blazing hot, blasting down the field to grab their first lead of the contest. Jayden Daniels hit Jaray Jenkins in stride down the near sidelines for a 54 yard touchdown on a 3rd and eight. 28-21 LSU with 2:24 left in the second quarter. Once again, the LSU defense held Florida without a score to end the first half of play. Jayden Daniels played his best half as a Tiger, going 14-18 for 252 yards with three touchdowns and a rushing score as the Tigers went into the locker room with 306 yards of total offense to Florida's 171, leading 28-21. LSU received the second half kickoff and exploded down the field for a score. On the first play of the drive Josh Williams broke a 50 yard run to the Florida 25 yard line. Two plays later Jayden Daniels ran it in from nine yards out to extend LSU's lead to 35-21. The Tigers continued to play like a pissed off football team! After holding Florida on 4th and four from the Tigers' 12 yard line, LSU took the turnover on downs and once again overwhelmed the Florida defense, driving 88 yards on 13 plays as Jayden Daniels scored his third rushing touchdown of the contest from nine yards. The score put LSU up 42-21 with only 1:07 left in the third quarter. The Gators finally struck back on the first play of the 4th quarter as Anthony Richardson rumbled 81 yards for a touchdown. The score ignited Ben Hill Griffin Stadium as the score now stood at 42-35 with 14:46 left in the game. After the Tigers scored a touchdown on their first six possessions, the Gators finally forced LSU to punt for the first time early in the final quarter. The Gators offense began to show signs of life after Richardson's electrifying scoring run on their last possession as they would score 14 unanswered points on a one yard touchdown run by Trevor Etienne, cutting LSU's lead to 42-35 with only 7:30 left in the contest. Florida drove 80 yards in 11 plays to turn what looked to be a LSU blowout back into a new ball game. But on the next possession the LSU offense slammed the door shut on the Gators, killing 5:47 off the clock while driving 46 yards in 11 plays. Damian Ramos drilled a 47 yard field goal with only 1:52 left in the game, putting LSU up by ten, 45-35, clinching victory for LSU. LSU is now 5-2 overall and 3-1 in SEC play. Next up, the Tigers will host the 9th ranked Ole Miss Black Bears (7-0) in Tiger Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 22. Kickoff is set for 2:30pm CST and the contest will be televised on CBS. Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - Brian Kelly held his regular 'beginning of the week press conference' on Monday to close out the Tennessee game, putting it behind us and to touch on and answer questions about the upcoming contest against the Florida Gators. Good news was mentioned about Will Campbell. Hopefully he will be available this weekend in the Swamp. Garrett Dellinger has an ACL sprain and will be out for hopefully no more than two weeks. The absence of Harold Perkins Jr. for most of the game against the Vols was due to the offensive formations thrown at the LSU defense, nothing more. The Tigers were being spread out, causing the defense to play much more nickel and dime which kept Perkins off the field for a huge part of the contest. The Tigers head to Gainesville to play a very winnable game. Starting fast is crucial along with cutting back on penalties and poor execution. It should be a great SEC battle on Saturday in the Swamp. Below is video of Monday's press conference. GEAUX TIGERS!!! **John 14:6 - "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (Find Jesus. God Bless) Da Boot Sports 10/08/2022 By: Corey Perrillioux BATON ROUGE, LA - On a beautiful day in Tiger Stadium, questionable coaching calls on 4th down and sloppy special teams cost the Tigers and helped open the door to a Tennessee 40-13 blowout win on Saturday. "Well, that was not what we had planned nor expected. We expected to play much better than that." Brian Kelly said. "Certainly when you fumble the opening kickoff and give an extra possession to a team that obviously plays fast and loves extra possessions and then giving another three points and spot them 10 points in special teams spots you a huge hole. That’s what we did. Our details were not very good. I could stand up here all day, but that falls on coaching." "That’s on me," Kelly added. "I have to coach better. We’ve gotta coach better. That’s the group we have. We have to coach them better. Congratulations to Tennessee, they played well today. They were the better football team. They certainly deserved the win today. Have to coach this football team better, that’s the bottom line." LSU started the game with shoddy special teams play, as Jack Bech muffed the opening kickoff with the Vols recovering the ball at the Tigers' 27. Tennessee quickly drove 27 yards in five plays, capped off with a one yard touchdown run by Jabari Small. After a LSU three and out, special teams once again burned the Tigers. Jay Bramblet got off a beautiful 52 yard punt, but Dee Williams returned the ball 58 yards down to the LSU 26 yard line. The Tigers defense would hold Tennessee to a 35 yard field goal to extend the lead to 10-0. On LSU's second possession, a failed 4th and four at the Tennessee 15 yard line handed the ball back to the Vols. Tennessee then drove from their 11 yard line, settling for a 38 yard field goal to increase their lead to 13-0 as the first quarter came to an end. LSU started the second quarter with more of the same, going for it on 4th and one, but failing as Josh Williams was tackled for a one yard loss turning the ball over on downs. Tennessee took over on the LSU 45 and struck quickly. On their first play of the drive, Hendon Hooker connected with Jalin Hyatt for a 45 yard touchdown pass, stretching the lead to 20-0. The Tigers would finally get on the scoreboard as the offense put a good drive together, mixing in pass and run. Josh Williams scored on a one yard run capping off the 95 yard drive, cutting the Vol's lead to 20-7 with 3:05 left in the first half. Tennessee drove down to the LSU 34 before the LSU defense forced a field goal attempt. Tennessee kicker Chase McGrath's kick hit the goal post, missing the 51 yard try. Following a third failed 4th down attempt for LSU, Tennessee quickly drove to the LSU 15, as McGrath would make a 32 yard field goal on the final play on the first half giving Tennessee a 23-7 lead at the break. The Volunteers took the opening possession of the second half and drove down the field with ease, scoring on a 14 yard touchdown pitch and catch from Hooker to Hyatt to quickly extend their lead to 30-7 with 11:47 left in the third quarter. Tennessee once again drove down the field late in the third quarter, mixing a potent passing attack with serviceable running, and additional assistance from LSU penalties. The 92 yard, eight play drive was capped off by a five yard touchdown run by Jabari Small. 37-7 Vols with 2:13 left in the quarter. Thus far, the Tigers hadn't played with any sense of urgency on offense, but began putting a decent drive together on their next possession to end the 3rd quarter. The 4th quarter began with a touchdown strike from Daniels to Malik Nabers, but the play was nullified by a holding penalty. The penalty lead to LSU's fourth attempt at a 4th down conversion, which was converted thanks to a pass interference penalty against Tennessee giving the Tigers a 1st and goal at the five. Daniels would then find Kayshon Boutte in the end zone for a five yard touchdown. The two point conversion attempt failed, bringing the score to 37-13 with 11:32 remaining in the 4th quarter. Tennessee took over on their five yard line following a block in the back penalty on the ensuing kickoff, but a 49 yard run by Jabari Small kick started the drive that would result in 32 yard field goal by Chase McGrath for the final score of the contest. LSU had one more offensive possession, starting at their own five yard line, putting a nice drive together, going 72 yards in seven plays before Daniels would be intercepted in the end zone by Trevon Flowers with :09 left on the clock. With the loss, LSU is now 4-2 overall, 2-1 in SEC play... Up next the Tigers will travel to Gainesville to take on the Florida Gators (4-2, 1-2).. Kickoff is set for 6:00pm CST and will be televised on ESPN. Photos Below By: Michael Bacigalupi **John 14:6 - "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
