Da Boot Sports 8/26/2021 By: Terrill J. Weil BATON ROUGE, LA: The Tigers finished practice on 'No Repeat Thursday'... The team practiced inside and worked on short yardage, goal line, and red zone. The team also had a two minute drill to end the session and the team did very well. They also worked on preparation for the opener against UCLA. Everyone who have been dealing with minor nagging camp injuries should all be back on Monday ready to go. Coach O said everyone should be healthy for the season opener except for Myles Brennan and Glen Logan. Friday the team will have a walkthrough on 'Focus Friday'... Then the Tigers will hold a mock scrimmage in Tiger Stadium on Saturday in helmets only to go through every game situation. The players will then have Saturday evening and Sunday off before returning back to practice on Monday to continue to prepare for the Bruins. Coach Orgeron said they haven't talked to school officials about the storm situation yet, but will soon as the university continues to monitor the weather. Below is a video of Coach O's press conference with the media on Thursday afternoon... GEAUX TIGERS!!!! Da Boot Sports 8/24/2021 LSU Sports Information By: Michael Bonnette BATON ROUGE -- With the significant threat presented by COVID-19 across the state of Louisiana due to the highly transmissible Delta variant, LSU will require all Tiger Stadium guests 12 years of age and older to provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours prior to entry. The decision comes after consultation with – and support from – Governor John Bel Edwards, LSU President William F. Tate IV, LSU’s Board of Supervisors, Tiger Athletic Foundation, and Director of Athletics Scott Woodward. “As the flagship institution of the state of Louisiana, our foremost responsibility is to ensure the safety of our students, our supporters, and our community,” Tate said. “While we are aware of the diverse perspectives across the nation regarding masks and vaccinations, we must take all reasonable measures to protect our campus and community, not only on gamedays, but long after guests have left Tiger Stadium. The current threat to our lives, our health, and to our medical systems due to COVID-19 is overburdening our hospitals, and we must do our part to stop the spread.” The policy will be in effect beginning on September 11th for the home football opener against McNeese. A list of vaccination sites in Louisiana is available at www.ldh.la.gov. To gain entry into Tiger Stadium, guests 12 and older must show proof of at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine that has received full approval or emergency use authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration or the World Health Organization. A vaccination card, a photo or photocopy of a vaccination card, or verified digital proof of vaccination, including LA Wallet or another government-sanctioned mobile app, will be accepted, with entry granted upon visual inspection. Those who have not yet received a dose of a COVID-19 vaccine must present digital or hard copy proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours of kickoff prior to entering the stadium. Guests younger than 12 will not need to present a negative test; masks will be encouraged for children younger than 5 and required for children ages 5 to 11 years old. “We have the best fans in college football, and we are doing everything we can to ensure their experience in Tiger Stadium this fall is safe and enjoyable,” Woodward said. “When our fans arrive on Saturdays to cheer on the Tigers, they will have confidence that we have taken measures to mitigate their health risks. Our football team has reached 99.1% vaccination, and we are incredibly proud of them for doing their part to protect their team and their community. We are confident our fans will do the same, and I encourage all Tiger fans to receive vaccinations today.” LSU Athletics will continue to update fans on this season’s procedures – including gameday prescreening options to expedite entry, further masking requirements, pop-up vaccination events, FAQs for all safety protocols, and more – as they are finalized. The first update will be posted on Friday, August 27 at LSUSports.net and distributed across LSU Athletics’ platforms. Season ticket holders with questions regarding refund policies must email [email protected] by Friday, August 27. Da Boot Sports 8/23/2021 LSU Sports Information By: William Franques BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. and placekicker Cade York on Monday were named 2021 Preseason First-Team All-Americans by the Associated Press. Stingley, a Baton Rouge native who prepped at the Dunham School, goes into the 2021 season looking to join Tommy Casanova as the only three-time first team All-Americans in LSU history. Casanova, who is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, earned first team All-America honors as a defensive back from 1969-71. Stingley is also on the Watch List for a number national awards, including the Bednarik Award (Defensive Player of the Year), the Jim Thorpe Award (Best Defensive Back), the Bronko Nagurski Trophy (Best Defensive Back) and the Paul Hornung Award (Best All-Purpose Player). Stingley, who started all 15 games as a true freshman during LSU’s 2019 national championship season, earned consensus All-America honors that year followed by first team All-America recognition from the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) in 2020. Stingley was also voted as the SEC Newcomer of the Year in 2019 after leading the league in interceptions with six, including two in the SEC Championship Game win over Georgia. In two years with the Tigers, Stingley has recorded 65 tackles, six interceptions and 26 pass breakups. He has also recovered two fumbles and forced another. York, a junior from McKinney, Texas, is also on the 2021 Watch List for the Lou Groza Award, given annually to the nation’s most outstanding placekicker. He kicked his way into the LSU record books last year when he delivered a 57-yard game-winning field goal with 23 seconds left in the 37-34 victory over sixth-ranked Florida in Gainesville. York earned second team All-America honors last year from the Associated Press and the Football Writers Association of America after converting 18-of-21 field goals during the COVID-shortened season. In two years at LSU, York ranks No. 5 in LSU history in career field goals (39) and he’s the school-record holder for most 50-yard field goals in a career (10) and a season (six in 2020). Da Boot Sports 8/21/2021 By: Terrill J. Weil BATON ROUGE, LA: Coach Orgeron was very pleased with the team's second scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday in Tiger Stadium. "The team and the coaches did an excellent job." Orgeron said. "There was a lot of intensity, it was a great day. A lot of enthusiasm on both sides of the ball." Garrett Nussmeier was 18 of 32, 308 yards, 3-TDs, 1-INT... Max Johnson was 11 of 19, 125 yards, 1-TD... Josh Williams rushed for 66 yards on seven carries... Armoni Goodwin had 25 yards on six carries... Corey Kiner rushed five times for 15 yards. Both freshmen backs continue to look good... John Emery & Ty Davis-Price didn't practice. Devonte Lee had five receptions for 85 yards... Malik Nabers had four catches for 79 yards... Deion Smith had three receptions for 67 yards... Brian Thomas and Jack Bech both had a good day. On defense, Jay Ward had eight tackles... Zavier Carter had two sacks... Maason Smith had three sacks... Overall, a good day for the defense... Cade York kicked a 54 yards field goal. He continues to show that he may be the best kicker in the country. “We ended the day with the two-minute drill and I saw a lot of great things,” Orgeron said. “We still had some protections problems, but we improved as the day went on. I thought the offense had the better day today, they scored points and made some big plays.” “We had a great scrimmage today and we got what we wanted to out of it. We wanted to have a final great scrimmage, which we did. Now we go into next week focused on game-planning for UCLA.” Below is Coach O's press conference scrimmage 2 video.... GEAUX TIGERS!!!!! Da Boot Sports 8/20/2021 By: Terrill J. Weil BATON ROUGE, LA: Unfortunately the media hasn't been able to view practice this week since Monday due to bad weather moving the Tigers indoors. Due to COVID protocol, media isn't allowed inside of the indoor practice facility. Friday's walk through is closed to the media, as well as Saturday afternoon's scrimmage in Tiger Stadium. Which has us not really getting any updates on the team until late Saturday evening after the scrimmage. As soon as any news breaks, we will report it for you. Until then, enjoy your weekend, God Bless, and GEAUX TIGERS!!! Da Boot Sports 8/19/2021 By: Terrill J. Weil BATON ROUGE, LA: Football season is right around the corner and all of us here at Da Boot Sports are just as pumped as anyone... I personally think the Tigers will bounce back in a huge way, with hopefully a return trip to Atlanta at season's end to play for the SEC Championship and clinch a spot in the NCAA playoff. We all got together to give you each of our staff member's thoughts and predictions on what the Tigers will do in 2021.... My 2021 LSU Football Prediction I really believe LSU will bounce back big this season. All the piece's are there with a group of experienced and talented players lead by an impressive new coaching staff... Below is my prediction for the LSU football team in 2021... GAME 1: Sept. 4 at UCLA 7:30PM The Tigers open the season on the road against the Bruins of UCLA in the Rose Bowl in a prime time matchup. Chip Kelly has a very experienced team which is returning 19 starters that will test LSU. The Bruins will also have a slight advantage by having played a game before this contest against Hawaii on August 28th. The Tigers will pull away in the 4th quarter with an explosive offensive and a suffocating Tigers defense to lead the purple and gold to victory.... PREDICTION: LSU 38, UCLA 24 (1-0) GAME 2: Sept. 11 McNeese State 7:00pm The Tigers (1-0) take on the McNeese State Cowboys in their home opener and hopefully a jammed packed Tiger Stadium for the first time since 2019. LSU feeds off of the energy from the Death Valley crowd and dismantles an outmatched McNeese team. Coach O shows no mercy on his son, Cowboys' starting quarterback, Cody Orgeron as the Tigers win big with reserves getting to see some valuable playing time late... PREDICTION: LSU 62, McNeese State 6 (2-0) GAME 3: Sept. 18 Central Michigan 6:30pm The Chippewas of Central Michigan come to Baton Rouge to face a red hot LSU team. The Tigers win easily and begin to look ahead to their first revenge game of the season in Starkville next weekend. PREDICTION: LSU 41, Central Michigan 3 (3-0) GAME 4: Sept. 25 at Mississippi State TBA Coach O and the Tigers go into this one with a huge chip on their shoulders as they remember last year's season opener in Tiger Stadium well. LSU will flex their muscles, especially on defense, helping to begin Mike Leach's hot seat season. PREDICTION: LSU 38, Mississippi State 14 (4-0) GAME 5: Oct. 2 Auburn TBA The 4-0 Tigers have had this one circled on the schedule also. Last season LSU lost ugly at Auburn 48-11. Pay back in Death Valley????? You bet.. A new head coach/coaching staff and an inconsistent Bo Nix could very well lead to snaps from T.J. Finley. Auburn has talent, especially on defense. But LSU continues to roll and prove to just be too much for Auburn in Tiger Stadium. PREDICTION: LSU 34, Auburn 20 (5-0) GAME 6: Oct. 9 at Kentucky TBA The Wildcats have always played LSU tough. But the Tigers have no problem in Lexington against a Kentucky squad that simply can't match up to the Tigers talent. PREDICTION: LSU 27, Kentucky 7 (6-0) GAME 7: Oct. 16 Florida TBA The Gators come to Death Valley with revenge on their minds but end up leaving with a loss that hurts their chances at winning the East. PREDICTION: LSU 31, Florida 10 (7-0) GAME 8: Oct. 23 at Ole Miss TBA Most expect this one to be a trap game for the Tigers, but I just don't see Orgeron letting his team have a let down or over look a Ole Miss team that should have another high power offense. Coach O will always have his head coaching experience here at Oxford in the back of his mind. It's a personal game to him. He will make sure the Tigers are ready. The following week, the Tigers have a bye so there is no one to look ahead to. Orgeron adds to the Rebel fan bases hatred for him.. PREDICTION: LSU 48, Ole Miss 31 (8-0) GAME 9: Nov. 6 at Alabama TBA What will be built up as the college football regular season game of the year, the 3rd ranked, 8-0 Tigers will head into Tuscaloosa against the #1 ranked, 8-0 Crimson Tide. The Tigers put up a great fight and it will take Bama 3 OTs to defeat LSU. The Tigers head home with their first defeat of the season. PREDICTION: Alabama 54, LSU 52 3-OTs (8-1) GAME 10: Nov. 13 Arkansas TBA The Tigers return home mentally drained with bumps and bruises from the epic overtime battle from the previous weekend. The Razorbacks put up a good fight, but the Tigers know they still have a lot to play for and with an electric Tiger Stadium crowd behind them, they pull out a close victory. PREDICTION: LSU 24, Arkansas 20 (9-1) GAME 11: Nov. 20 ULM TBA LSU takes out frustrations on the Warhawks, resting several starters in the second half and giving some young reserves some valuable game snaps. PREDICTIONS: LSU 77, ULM 6 (10-1) GAME 12: Nov. 27 Texas A&M TBA The Tigers host a Texas A&M team who is ending a disappointing regular season with 8 wins. The game is close for three quarters before the LSU defense and the LSU running game both take control of the contest. The Tigers send the Aggies home with a 8-4 record. PREDICTION: LSU 38, Texas A&M 27 (11-1) The Tigers sit home and watch Alabama beat Georgia in the SEC Championship game, but are able to qualify for the NCAA playoffs drawing the #3 seed. #1 Alabama will play #4 Clemson while LSU will battle #2 Oklahoma. LSU downs the Sooners to advance to the championship game where they will rematch Alabama in an all-SEC national championship game. NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME: Jan. 10 LSU vs. Alabama The rematch! Many of us still have nightmares from the 2012 national championship game when Bama dominated the LSU offense winning the title with a 21-0 victory in the New Orleans Super Dome.. History will not repeat itself. Coach O, this coaching staff, and these players will find a new level to play at and win the rematch to take the national championship. The loss will lead to Alabama head coach Nick Saban announcing his retirement a couple of weeks later. PREDICTION: LSU 31, Alabama 27 (13-1) Da Boot Sports 8/19/2021 By: Michael Lanclos Its that time again for another year of LSU football. Last year was not easy as the Tigers had to win their final two games to end the season with a disappointing 5-5 record following the Championship season in 2019. So far this preseason most of the major polls rank LSU in the top 15. I believe that LSU can finish much higher. LSU has the talent to be a championship team. I predict they will finish the season 10-2. Hopefully with some luck, 11-1 and land in the playoffs. Time will tell what's in store for this LSU team. The offense will hopefully have a familiar look with Jake Peetz installing a offense resembling the 2019 attack. Daronte Jones should do the same for the defense. Both of these new, young coordinators will need to be the difference makers if the Tigers are to rebound big in 2021. Quarterback Myles Brennan was ready for a strong campaign this season but an arm injury will sideline him for up to two months. Hopefully he can return by the Auburn game. Last season he put up great numbers before falling to injury early last season. Max Johnson who replaced Brennan last season looked good at times, then finished the season strong going 2-0 as a starter. He should be ready to lead the Tiger offense this season. Hopefully he can stay healthy until Brennan's return as only true freshmen Garrett Nessmeier would be the Tigers only other option. The running back position should be just as good as it was last season. Injuries and inconsistent play set the team back most of the season. Tyrion Davis-Price and John Emery are the returning veterans hoping to lead the ground attack. Newcomers Corey Kiner and Armoni Goodwin are two dynamic true freshmen who can help spark the running game and add a lot of depth. The LSU receiving corps is ready to make a statement this season as Kayshon Boutte will be the top target. Jaray Jenkins and Jontre Kirklin are expected to have a big season as well. Koy Moore, Alex Adams, Trey Palmer, and Davonte Lee will get playing time. The Tigers have other options with an impressive group of freshmen wide outs. Newcomers Chris Hilton Jr., Brian Thomas Jr. and Malik Nabers are opening eyes in practice. The tight end position could be the team's only weakness. Jack Bech and Kole Taylor should see several snaps there throughout the season. LSU returns a veteran offensive line that looks very solid. New Offensive line coach Brad Davis is working hard to get the second unit improved before the season begins. The LSU defense struggled last season giving up an average of almost 35 points a game before showing improvement in the final two games. The Tigers will need to win the turnover battle all season long. Andre Anthony and BJ Ojulari return to lead a very deep defensive front. Derek Stingley Jr. and Eli Ricks give the Tigers the best cornerback tandem in the nation. Cade York returns giving LSU one of the best kickers in the nation. He had a great season last year including the winning 57 yard kick against Florida. Senior Avery Atkins was a walk on in the past and has earned a scholarship. His ability to boom a kickoff through the end zone is a valuable special teams weapon. LSU is very talented with several experienced players. Coach O has been working hard to make sure the team avoids last season's mistakes and bring back the "One Team, One Heartbeat" atmosphere. All of us are hoping and praying that the new surge of COVID doesn't effect games or stadium attendance for an upcoming season that should be a special one. Da Boot Sports 8/18/2021 By: Terrill J. Weil BATON ROUGE, LA: The Tigers had to head indoors for their afternoon practice for the second straight day on Wednesday. Coach O did meet with the media after practice to answer a few questions. The team had a spirited practice today as they were in full gear for the second day in a row. They worked on short yardage and goal line situations, which they will continue to work on in this Saturday's scrimmage in Tiger Stadium. The running game is really coming along. The two freshmen running backs, Kiner and Goodwin, had a great practice yesterday as they both made big plays. The Tigers will practice in only helmets tomorrow, have a walkthrough on Friday, then have their second scrimmage in Tiger Stadium on Saturday. School starts next week so the team will have a short break to start classes, then when they return they will begin to prepare for the season opener against UCLA. Below is the video of Coach Orgeron's evening press conference.. GEAUX TIGERS!!! Da Boot Sports 8/17/2021 By: Terrill J. Weil BATON ROUGE, LA: Bad weather sent the Tigers indoors on Tuesday afternoon's for practice. However, a few Players were able to meet with the press for a few minutes to answer a few questions. Eli Ricks and Ty Davis-Price returned to practice on Monday. Both wore gold non-contact jerseys. Derek Stingley Jr. still hasn't returned with a minor camp injury. Coach O said they are in no hurry to rush him back. The offensive line will look to bounce back this week in practice and in the next scrimmage this week after allowing too much pressure on the quarterbacks last Saturday. Coach Orgeron said they mainly worked on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd downs as well as red zone. That was the main emphasis of the day. The defense had a great day putting a lot of pressure on the quarterbacks and Garrett Nussmeier has a great performance.. “It was an outstanding day,” Ed Orgeron said. “There was a lot of hard work and preparation getting ready for today. I thought our coaches did a tremendous job of getting our guys ready.” Sophomore quarterback Max Johnson completed 11-of-19 passes for 127 yards and a touchdown, while true freshman Garrett Nussmeier connected on 11-of-17 passes for 225 yards and three scores. LSU will take Sunday off from practice and then return to the field on Monday with a walk-through in the morning followed by practice in the afternoon. Da Boot Sports 8/14/2021 By: Keith Crozier Predictions for LSU Tigers 2021 Sept. 4th LSU vs. UCLA @ Pasadena, Ca (Rose Bowl) This is game will be a hard-fought game, but I think the Bruins will come out the Loser. Record tally: 1-0 Sept. 11th LSU vs. McNeese @ Baton Rouge, La. (Tiger Stadium) I will not call this game an in-state Rival. Center - Liam Shanahan LB - Mike Jones Jr. OL - Cameron Wire K - Avery Atkins Da Boot Sports 8/12/2021 By: Terrill J. Weil BATON ROUGE, LA: The Tigers return to the practice field Thursday afternoon after taking Wednesday off. Unfortunately we were unable to view the beginning of practice as the team needed to move indoors due to bad weather. Coach Orgeron did speak to the media after practice to fill us in on the afternoon session. The team had a very spirited physical practice after the day off as they worked on red zone situations. He mentioned that Garrett Nussmeier has really stepped his play up, having a fantastic practice, and really pushed Max Johnson on Thursday. It's becoming a strong competition. He feels good about both quarterbacks. He also mentioned that the freshmen wide receivers continue to impress and that the game isn't too big for any of them. They are humble and hungry. He expects big things from them this season. Ty Davis-Price is still out nursing a minor camp injury and is expected to return on Monday full speed. The other backs are looking good. John Emery was full speed ready to go. Armoni Goodwin has been making big plays. He is smooth and he is fast showing nice speed as he has been able to turn the corner and has shown the ability to make tacklers miss. Corey Kiner has been more of a punishing power type back and had some big runs. He is hard to tackle. The offensive line is picking things up as they have shown signs of becoming more physical. The first unit is solid, while the second group needs to come along more. Coach O also mentioned that they plan to rotate the linebackers to keep them fresh throughout the games. "Think about these offenses, it's like basketball on grass." said Orgeron. "These guys are going for 80-90 plays. If we can rotate our linebackers, two at each spot. I think we will be better off. We will have some situational stuff. On 3rd down we may put in some different guys that we have in on 1st and 2nd down. Depending on the type of offense we're playing. During the season, guys will get hurt. You've got to develop depth there." Derek Stingley Jr. missed practice again today. Orgeron said he has a minor injury that he is having treated and should return on Monday. Coach O says they still plan on using him on offense at some point this season. Defensive lineman Glen Logan re-injured a stress fracture in his foot which will have him miss practice time leading up to the season opener. The team will practice in helmets on Thursday afternoon. Then will sleep late on Saturday before heading to Tiger Stadium in the afternoon for their first scrimmage of fall camp. Below is a video of Coach O's press conference on Thursday night.
