Da Boot Sports 10/22/2022 By: Corey Perrillioux BATON ROUGE, LA - LSU hosted SEC rival Ole Miss in Death Valley on Saturday afternoon. The Rebels came in ranked 7th in the nation with an undefeated record of 7-0 and 3-0 in the SEC. The Rebels Have a dangerous offensive led by sophomore quarterback Jaxson Dart. LSU came in with an overall record of 5-2 and 3-1 in SEC play. Ole Miss won the coin toss and elected to receive. After an offsides by LSU on the opening kickoff, Ole Miss started on their 30. The Rebels wasted little time driving the length of the field, capped off by a 6-yard touchdown run by running back Quinshon Judkins. With their first possession, LSU started on their 25 with an early emphasis on running the ball, alternating rushing duties between RB Josh Williams and QB Jayden Daniels. Assisted by a defensive pass interference call, LSU's offense drove down the field with relative ease but stalled at the 6-yard line, settling for a 23-yard field goal by PK Damian Ramos. 7-3 Rebels. Ole Miss began their 2nd possession at their own 25. An LSU interception was nullified by a defensive pass interference, keeping the Ole Miss drive alive. The Rebels, assisted by another defensive pass interference on 4th and goal, capitalized with a 3-yard TD run by Judkins. LSU began their 2nd possession at the 34-yard line following a 33-yard return by Noah Cain. LSU's offense again looked dynamic as they drove down the field with a nice mix of run and pass before stalling at the 25. but Ramos missed a 42-yard field goal attempt. Ole Miss took over at their 25 and once again matriculated the ball down the field with ease against the Tiger defense. The drive stalled at the 14-yard line as the 1st quarter ended with a score Ole Miss 14 LSU 3. The drive concluded with a 32-yard field goal by PK Jonathan Cruz. LSU's third possession began at their 25. The Tigers again had an impressive drive as Jayden Daniels showed great discipline going through his progressions and showing patience while resisting the run-first tendency. The drive was capped off with a beautiful 34-yard touchdown strike to Jaray Jenkins. The score cut the Rebels lead to 17-10. After forcing an Ole Miss punt LSU took over at the 23-yard line and came out swinging with a big 38-yard pass play to Mason Taylor. The Tigers drove the length of the field and finished the drive with a 3-yard Jayden Daniels touchdown run to tie the game at 17-17. The Rebels answered the LSU score as Jonathan Cruz kicked a 48-yard field goal after the Tigers defense stalled their drive. as the game went to the halftime with Ole Miss holding a 20-17 The growth and cohesiveness of the LSU offensive line were evident as the Tigers began to dominate the contest. They continued to provide Jayden Daniels with a lot of time in the pocket to find open receivers. LSU finally took their first lead of the game halfway through the third quarter, driving the ball down the field and scoring the go-ahead touchdown on a 2-yard pass from Jayden Daniels to Mason Taylor. The score was Taylor's first-ever touchdown as an LSU Tiger. 24-20 Tigers. The growth and cohesiveness of the LSU offensive line were evident as the Tigers began to dominate the contest. They continued to provide Jayden Daniels with a lot of time in the pocket to find open receivers. It looked like Ole Miss would answer the LSU score as the Rebels drove the length of the field to the LSU 10-yard line, but the LSU defense turned them away with an intercepted by Joe Foucha in the end zone. LSU took over at the 20-yard line. The momentum had clearly swung in the Tigers favor as they provided the fans with big plays and first downs, driving down the field at will as their drive went into the 4th quarter with LSU leading, 24-20. Calling Baton Rouge by Garth Brooks led the fans into the 4th quarter and Tiger Stadium was electric as the sun went down over Baton Rouge. Capitalizing on the momentum, the Tigers extended their lead to 31-20 on a Jayden Daniels 11-yard touchdown run. As the LSU defense continued to shut down the Rebels' offensive attack, the Tigers offense showed no semblance of being in a rebuilding year as they continued to drive the ball at will against the 7th-ranked team in the nation. Jayden Daniels finished off LSU's next drive as he knifed his way through the Rebels defense for a 17-yard touchdown run. His 3rd rushing touchdown on the day. LSU now lead the Rebels, 38-20. The Tigers would extend their lead one more time as Jayden Daniels continued his dominance on the field leading LSU 38 yards for another score, capped off by a Josh Williams 1-yard touchdown run. With a deficit of 45-20, LSU upset the #7 team in the nation with a dominating 45-20 victory bring their record to 6-2, 4-1 in the SEC. The Tigers have a bye next week. Their next contest will be against the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday, Nov. 5th in Tiger Stadium.
