Da Boot Sports 8/19/2023 By: Terrill J. Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - The Tigers closed out their 2023 fall camp with a scrimmage on Saturday in Tiger Stadium. With camp now complete, Brian Kelly can now begin finalizing the depth chart and work on game preparation for their season opening contest against Florida State which is only 15 days away. Staff member, Michael Bacigalupi was able to observe the scrimmage from the press box with other members of the media and did a great job of covering the event. **No cameras were allowed for the scrimmage. After a typical warmup period and position drills, the team went into action with a 43 play scrimmage. Freshman running back Kaleb Jackson shined with two impressive scoring plays. One came when Jackson gathered in a screen pass from Garrett Nussmeier and took it 75 yards for a touchdown. His other score came on a nice 18 yard touchdown run. Jackson showcased his speed and power as he broke several tackles and out ran defenders. Kaleb Jackson looks to be the real deal and will be a very productive running back for the Bayou Bengals. The offensive line continues to look very solid. Here are some unofficial offensive stats::::: **Jayden Daniels:6-11 for 68 yds, 1-TD **Garrett Nussmeier: 5-8 for 113, 1-TD **Kaleb Jackson: 26 yards rushing on two carries, 1 rushing TD. He had one catch for a 75 yard TD. **Noah Cain: three carries for 14 yards. He had one catch for an 8 yard TD. **Malik Nabers: two catches for 17 yards **Mason Taylor: three grabs for 36 yards **Khai Prean: three catches for 25 yards Zy Alexander made a nice play when he stripped the ball away from Mason Taylor then recovered the fumble. Safeties Andre' Sam and Welton Spotsville each had an interception. Sage Ryan had to leave the scrimmage with what looked like an arm or shoulder injury. No official word on the injury but we have heard that a source reported it was only a stinger and the sophomore safety is okay. Maason Smith, Josh Williams, Armoni Goodwin and Logan Diggs are still nursing minor injuries and didn't participate in the scrimmage. Denver Harris returned to practice on Saturday. Expect to see a huge improvement in the return game for the special teams. Aaron Anderson, Jalen Brown, Javen Nicholas and Gregory Clayton Jr. all have shown they are reliable and have the potential to be dangerous punt and kickoff returners. This was the last day of access for the media until the season kicks off on September 3rd in Orlando. The Tigers will have a day off rest on Sunday after practicing for nine straight days before classes begin on Monday August 21st.
