By: Terrill J. Weil Da Boot Sports! #1 LSU takes down LandSharks, 58-37 Okay, Okay, Okay... I was a little off on my game prediction. I felt Ole Miss would play our Tigers tough in the 1st quarter or so, then the mighty LSU offense would pull away while the defense shuts down the Rebels' SEC leading rushing attack. Well, can you say track meet? Two totally different styles of offensive attacks. The #1 team in the country, LSU (10-0), avoid a let down and come away with a win after last weeks 46-41 emotional victory over Bama. LSU put up 58 points, 714 total yards of offense, (489 passing, 225 rushing). Ole Miss (4-7), scored 37 points, 614 total yards of offense, (402 rushing, 212 passing).. It looked like the Tigers would cruise to an easy win after dominating the first half, taking a 31-7 lead into the locker room. Ole Miss received the second half kickoff and went 75 yds in two plays, scoring on a John Rhys Plumlee 46 yard touchdown sprint. Plumlee, a true freshman, rushed for 212 yards and 4 touchdowns. His scoring plays came on runs of 5, 46, 60, and 35 yds. LSU's defense seemed confused and out of position through out most of the 2nd half. The Tigers continue to not tackle well and seem to sleep walk through the 3rd quarter while they struggle to make adjustment. The defense did however make the plays needed late in the game to help secure the win. The explosive Tiger offense continues to roll. Joe Burrow was 32/42, 489 yds, 5 touchdowns, 2 INTS, while breaking records for most completions in a row, (17) and breaking the single season passing record set by Rohan Davey in 2001. Both Justin Jefferson and Ja'Marr Chase both eclipsed 1,000 yards on the season. That's only the 3rd duo in SEC history to achieve this milestone. Chase had 8 catches for 227 yards and 3 scores, while Jefferson caught 9 balls for 112 yards and 2 touchdowns. The LSU running game was also in full swing as Clyde Edwards-Helaire rushed for 172 yards on 23 carries and a score. Next weekend the Tigers will host (2-8) Arkansas in Tiger Stadium as they look to clinch the SEC West with a victory.
