Da Boot Sports 9/6/2022 By: Terrill J. Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - One of the positives coming out of fall camp was that the LSU football team had avoided any serious injuries as they prepared for their season opener against Florida State. During the disappointing 24-23 loss on Sunday, that string of good luck came to a screeching halt as sophomore defensive tackle Maason Smith tore his ACL while celebrating a big play, ending his 2022 season. Maason who had a stellar freshman campaign with 19 tackles and four sacks along with being named to the freshman All-American team last season was primed to be a force on LSU's defensive front. Sunday's loss was difficult to witness, especially with how poorly LSU performed in all three phases of the game, but most of the mistakes made in the 24-23 loss to Florida State are correctable. I'm very confident that Brian Kelly and his staff will make the necessary adjustments needed to move this team in the right direction. I'm part of the guilty party who deep down inside hoped that Brian Kelly would arrive in Baton Rouge and wave this magic purple and gold wand to produce a 10-2 season shocking the college football world. The rebuilding process has begun. Please be patient. I know for some that's a difficult request but Coach Kelly is the right man for this job and better days are ahead for this program. Below is video of Brian Kelly's post game press conference as well as highlights from Sunday night's contest. GEAUX TIGERS!!!
